In this study, the researchers categorized the different maritime command-language (words and expressions) used on-board by young Filipino officers and seafarers employed at the different foreign shipping companies in the country and abroad. The paper also ascertained the importance of maritime language in the global seafaring profession of maritime youth in the Philippines. The respondents of the present study were the young officers and seafarers of the maritime university, specifically, John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University-Molo, Iloilo City, Philippines. Quantitative and qualitative mode of data collection was employed by the researchers. A researcher-made data gathering instrument was used to capture the necessary data in understanding the role of maritime language in the global seafaring profession. Sample utterances were gathered from the respondents and were subject to corresponding statistical interpretation. Qualitative information, comments, and remarks were utilized in this study to showcase the importance of maritime language in the profession of young officers and seafarers as graduates of leading global supplier in the international maritime industry.

Bezoars are accumulations of human or plant fiber located in the gastrointestinal tract of both humans and animals. Patients remain asymptomatic for several years, and the symptoms develop as these accumulations increase in size to the point of obstruction or perforation. We report the case of a 21-year-old patient at 10 d postpartum, who presented with acute abdomen associated with sepsis. Given the urgency of the clinical picture, at no point was the presence of a giant bezoar at gastric level suspected, specifically a trichobezoar. The emergency abdominal and pelvic ultrasound revealed only unspecific signs of perforated hollow viscus. diagnosis was therefore made intraoperatively. A complete gastric trichobezoar was found with gastric perforation and secondary peritonitis. The peritoneal fluid culture revealed Candida glabrata.

Fluid homeostasis, blood pressure and redox balance in the kidney are regulated by an intricate interaction between local and systemic anti-natriuretic and natriuretic systems. Intrarenal dopamine plays a central role on this interactive network. By activating specifc receptors, dopamine promotes sodium excretion and stimulates anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory pathways. different pathological scenarios where renal sodium excretion is dysregulated, as in nephrotic syndrome, hypertension and renal infammation, can be associated with impaired action of renal dopamine including alteration in biosynthesis, dopamine receptor expression and signal transduction. Given its properties on the regulation of renal blood fow and sodium excretion, exogenous dopamine has been postulated as a potential therapeutic strategy to preventrenal failure in critically ill patients. The aim of this review is to update and discuss on the most recent findings about renal dopaminergic system and its role in several diseases involving the kidneys and the potential use of dopamine as a nephroprotective agent.

Brazil is the largest producer of ethanol from sugarcane in the world. While the ethanol industry is economically important to Brazil for several reasons, it also has a significant impact on the environment. Here we analyze the water consumptive use in the transformation of the feedstock (sugarcane) into ethanol and the impact of industrial byproduct effluents on water resources of the state of Sao Paulo, Brazil. Our estimates indicated that in the 2007-2008 harvest, 700 million m3 was withdrawn mainly from rivers and streams by 140 mills, and of this total 440 million m3 was consumed which yielded a water use of approximately 1.53 m3 ·water·tonˉ1 sugarcane or approximately 18 L·water·L-ˉ1 ethanol. At the same time, a total of 120 million m3 of vinasse by-product was produced in the state, equivalent to an organic load of approximately 3 billion kg·BOd during the harvest season or approximately 8 million kg·BOd·dˉ1. Although the water used by sugarcane mills has decreased in recent decades, it is still possible to further decrease the amount of water used by ethanol production. This would decrease the pressure on 1st order streams of the state from which most water is withdrawn. In addition, the enormous volume of vinasse production must be reduced because it exerts constant pressure on aquatic ecosystems, soil and groundwater due to the constant increase in the potassium (K) concentration in areas where it is used as a fertilizer.

目的初步研究压力治疗的作用机制,探讨有效的压力治疗措施.方法设计多组试验,分别探讨压力治疗的疗效与作用机制、智能压力衣的研制及应用效果.（1）压力治疗的疗效研究.将45例四肢烧伤患者按照随机数字表法分为压力治疗组36例和对照组9例,压力治疗组每日超过23 h穿着量身定做的压力衣（压力为10%缩率＋局部9 mm厚压力垫）,对照组不进行针对瘢痕的任何治疗.采用温哥华瘢痕量表（VSS）、颜色光学测试仪和软组织触诊超声系统评定瘢痕情况,对数据进行独立样本t检验或配对t检验.（2）了解Fb在压力作用下生长速率的变化.从手术切取的瘢痕组织中提取Fb,分别施加1.1、2.8、5.6 mm Hg（1 mm Hg=0.133 kPa）压力及不施加压力,观察Fb的生长速率（数据进行Fisher LSd post-hoc分析）.（3）压力作用下瘢痕厚度的研究.应用高频超声成像系统,评估不同时期（早期：1～6个月,中期：7～12个月,后期：大于12个月）增生性瘢痕组织在0、5、15、25、35 mm Hg压力作用下的厚度变化（数据进行相关性及回归分析）.（4）智能压力衣的应用研究.嘱曾经接受过传统压力衣治疗的36例患者穿着智能压力衣1个月,应用Pliance X系统进行压力测定并发放问卷调查患者使用情况,数据行Wilcoxon Sign-Ranks检验.结果（1）治疗2个月压力治疗组瘢痕厚度、颜色及VSS评分均较治疗前明显改善;与对照组相比,治疗2个月压力治疗组VSS评分明显降低.（2）加压2 d,施加压力为5.6 mm Hg的Fb生长速率明显低于未施加压力者（均差=0.086、P=0.001）;加压3 d,施加压力为2.8、5.6 mm Hg的Fb生长速率明显低于未施加压力者（均差分别为0.060、0.118,P值分别为0.003、小于0.001）.（3）增生性瘢痕组织的厚度在压力作用下明显变薄,且厚度与压力大小呈负相关（r=-0.96,P＜0.01）.（4）使用智能压力衣1个月后,静态压力减少19.5%、动态压力减少11.9%,明显低于传统压力衣压力减少量（约为50.0%）.问卷调查结果显示,智能压力衣在舒适性、透气性、疗效等方面均明显优于传统压力衣（P值均小于或等于0.001）.结论初步证明压力治疗能有效抑制增生性瘢痕生长,但其确切机制仍需进一步研究证实.智能压力衣具有使用方便、省时、疗效好等特点,可在临床推广使用.

Although taste is an important aspect of fruit quality, an understanding of its genetic control remains elusive in apple and other fruit crops. In this study, we conducted genomic sequence analysis of 497 Malus accessions and revealed erosion of genetic diversity caused by apple breeding and possible independent domestication events of dessert and cider apples. Signatures of selection for fruit acidity and size, but not for fruit sugar content, were detected during the processes of both domestication and improvement. Furthermore, we found that single mutations in major genes affecting fruit taste, including Ma1, MdTdT, and MdSOT2, dramatically decrease malate, citrate, and sorbitol accumulation, respectively, and correspond to important domestication events. Interestingly, Ma1 was identified to have pleiotropic effects on both organic acid content and sugar:acid ratio, suggesting that it plays a vital role in determining fruit taste. Fruit taste is unlikely to have been negatively affected by linkage drag associated with selection for larger fruit that resulted from the pyramiding of multiple genes with minor effects on fruit size. Collectively, our study provides new insights into the genetic basis of fruit quality and its evolutionary roadmap during apple domestication, pinpointing several candidate genes for genetic manipulation of fruit taste in apple.

AIM:To evaluate if indolent B cell-non Hodgkin's lymphoma(B-NHL) and diffuse large B-cell lymphoma(dLBCL) in hepatitis C virus(HCV) positive patients could have different biological and clinical characteristics requiring different management ***:A group of 24 HCV related B-NHL patients(11 indolent,13 dLBCL) in whom the biological and clinical characteristics were described and *** with dLBCL were managed with the standard of care of *** with indolent HCV-related B-NHL were managed with antiviral treatment pegylated interferon plus ribavirin and their course *** outcomes of the different approaches were ***:Patients with dLBCL had a shorter duration of HCV infection and a higher prevalence of HCV genotype 1 compared to patients with indolent B-NHL in which HCV genotype 2 was the more frequent *** of the 9 patients with indolent HCV-relatedB-NHL treated with only antiviral therapy,achieved a complete response of their onco-haematological disease(55%).Seven of the 13 dLBCL patients treated with immunochemotheraphy obtained a complete response(54%).CONCLUSION:HCV genotypes and duration of HCV infection differed between B-NHL *** lymphomas can be managed with antiviral treatment,while dLBCL is not affected by the HCV infection.

The use of hearing aids (HA) is considered a predisposing factor for ear microbial infections. We undertook this study to compare the presence and nature of the microbial flora inhabiting of ears of HA and non-HA (nHA) users. Swab samples of the ears of HA and nHA users were collected from the Institute of Otolaryngology, “Cattolica del Sacro Cuore” University “Agostino Gemelli”, Rome, Italy. Swab samples were taken from the ear canal of 57 HA and 33 nHA users. The components of the microbial flora present on each swab sample were identified and characterized at the level of species. A total of 41 different bacterial species were identified. A statistically significant prevalence of polymicrobial communities was found in ears presenting signs of inflammation (2.5 ± 1.7 vs 2.1 ± 1.3;P = 0.02) and in HA users (2.3 ± 1.2 vs 1.7 ± 1.0;P = 0.002). Few putative pathogens were detected. Candida albicans spp. was not isolated in our study. A small number of swab samples presented no microbial growth. Bacterial species isolated from HA users with and without inflammation were assayed for the ability to form biofilm. Among gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, S. aureus, CoNS, P. aeruginosa and K. pneumoniae were found to be strong biofilm producers. S. aureus and P. aeruginosa, isolated only from the ears of HA and nHA users presenting signs of inflammation, were further analyzed for their antibiotic-resistance profile and characterized by the Multilocus Sequence Typing (MLST) assay. The highest rates of antibacterial resistance were in S. aureus to penicillin (75.5%) and in P. aeruginosa, to amoxicillin-clavulanic acid, cefotaxime, ertapenem, tigecycline and trime-thoprim-sulfamethoxazole (100%). Moreover, three S. aureus strains (37.5%) were methicillin-resistant (MRSA). Of the eight S. aureus isolates, we identified six sequence types (ST) indicating that 75% are likely independent clones.
