Behavior of Arsenic and Fluoride Concentration in Guadiana Valley Aquifer of Durango, Mexico

Fluorine (F) and arsenic (As) are inorganic elements present in the subsurface depending on the geology of the region. These compounds are found in high concentrations in the underground strata of Guadiana Valley of Durango affecting water quality for human consumption (nOM-127-SSA-1994). In the present research the main objective was to assess the behavior in time and space of fluoride (F-) and arsenic concentration, from 1996 to date, in the groundwater of the city of Durango and some wells of the rural area as a reference. The highest concentration of arsenic was found in a rural well, Colonia Hidalgo (0.149 mg/L or ppm), 6 times the maximum permissible limit (MPL);within the city well 54 located in the western sector had the highest value (0.076 ppm), 3 times the MPL, 67% of the wells in the city and 60% of the Guadiana Valley had levels that exceeded the MPL (0.025 ppm), the concentration in the city ranged from 0.009 to 0.149 ppm and from 0.08 to 0.15 ppm for the rural zone. With respect to F-, the highest value was also found in the Colonia Hidalgo well (17.8 mg/L), 12 times the MPL;within the city the highest value was recorded in well 16 in the eastern sector with 7.6 ppm (5 times the MPL) 97% of the wells in the city and 100% of the wells in the Guadiana Valley rural area had concentrations greater than MPL (1.5 ppm), the concentration in the city ranged from 1.1 to 7.6 ppm, while in the Guadiana Valley from 1.7 to 17.8 ppm. Statistical analysis showed no significant difference for fluoride concentration over time (1996-2013);whereas the concentration of arsenic decreased, probably due to the degree of precision required for such small concentrations in groundwater and different analysts ran the samples.

Concentration of Fluoride and Arsenic in Bottled Drinking Water in Durango City, Mexico

Arsenic and fluoride are elements known to cause human health problems and it has been documented that both elements are found in high concentrations in the Guadiana Valley aquifer, in the state of Durango, Mexico. Since underground water is the source for potable water bottling companies commercialized in Durango City;such high concentrations reduced the quality of bottled water for human consumption according to nOM-041-SSA1-1993. Legislation establishes a maximum permissible limit (MPL) of 0.7 mg/L for fluoride and 0.025 mg/L for arsenic. In this research the main objective was to evaluate the quality of bottled water expended in Durango City with respect to the well from which water is extracted. Findings showed that the highest fluoride concentration was 5.86 mg/L (8.4 times MPL), with 100% of sampled brands exceeding the MPL (range: 1.09 to 5.86 mg/L). On the other hand, for arsenic, the highest concentration was 0.076 mg/L (threefold), with 38% exceeding the MPL (range: 0.001 to 0.076 ppm). Statistical analysis showed significant differences only for fluoride, according to Fisher LSD (Least Significant Difference) test, with an F value of 14.5 at a p value of 0.0005. According to the comparison between the quantified concentrations in bottled water and groundwater, it was found that groundwater was subjected to treatment;however, although a significant decrease in fluoride and arsenic concentration was observed, the removal processes used were not efficient to meet set standards.

Transversal Competences and Clinic Tutorship: Appreciation by Graduated nursing Specialists

Background: Transversal competences are included in the United nations Organization 2030 Agenda for the formation of staff professional in higher education, having disciplinary and transversal skills to develop individual, professional, social, and entrepreneurship at present time, creative individuals being able to solve social problems via collaboration. The aim was to evaluate the transversal competences developed by graduates, specialists in nursing with the accompaniment of clinic tutorship. Methods: Qualitative, phenomenological, and interpretative research. The informants were seven graduates from the Unique Program of nursing Specialties (UPnS), from the national Autonomous University of Mexico (UnAM), one participant from each knowledge field: nursing in the Elderly, Public Health, neurology, Physical and Sports Culture, Oncology, and two participants from Adult in Critical Condition. Information collection was through a focal group, and data analysis according to the principles of Souza Minayo. Signed informed consent was obtained previously. Results: Five categories with 24 sub-categories emerged. Category 1, Student’s perception on clinic tutorship specialty. Category 2, Competences promoted by clinic tutorship according to student’s experience. Category 3, Experiences about clinic tutorship planning. Category 4, Challenges faced by the student in the evaluation of clinic tutorship. Category 5, Opportunity fields in clinic tutorship from students’ experiences. Conclusion: Graduate students from the specialties describe transversal competences related with decision taking, collaborative work, and increase of population welfare, as well as generic disciplinary competences. The analogy of a social hinge between the clinic tutor and the student is highlighted, which allows to identify mobile and fixed components while the bolt that binds mentor with mentee is learning, by means of the accompaniment by an expert. .

Transversal Competencies of a Clinical Mentor in nursing Graduate Studies

Introduction: The focus of clinical mentoring in nursing specialists is to develop both generic or transversal skills, as well as specific skills needed to assess their profile and become a graduate student under the guidance of experts. Objective: The objective of this study is to diagnose the transversal competencies of clinical mentors from the Unique Program of nursery Specialties (UPnS) in student body training. Method: This study utilized a descriptive and phenomenological interpretative approach. Twelve informants from UPnS participated, and the variables were clinical mentoring and transversal competencies from novice and senior mentors. Two focus groups were conducted for data collection, and data analysis was performed according to Strauss and Corbin. All participants provided signed informed consent. Results: Post-analysis of qualitative data revealed three categories with subcategories. Category 1: Strengths of clinical mentors in three dimensions. Sub-categories: 1.1) PD: Academic and personal companionship;1.2) PD: Guidance with humanist focus and feedback from mentor to student in real scenarios;1.3) PD: Guidance in the teaching-learning process;1.4) DD: Integration of theoretical-practical knowledge and development of advanced abilities in nursing for clinical practice;1.5) CD: Responsibility and commitment from student’s characteristics to group’s general statements. Category 2: Competencies that lead the clinical mentor in pedagogy, discipline and generic dimensions, reported 9 subcategories six of them focused on the didactics of clinical mentors, and three on the interpersonal communication between mentors. Category 3: Opportunity areas to develop by the clinical mentor. From a mentor’s perspective, eight subcategories revealed transversal competencies that define a clinical mentor for UPnS. This paper analyzes the network of passes among the players of the Spanish team during the last FIFA World Cup 2010,where they emerged as the champion,with the objective of explaining the results obtained from the behavior at the complex network *** team is considered a network with players as nodes and passes as(directed) edges.A temporal analysis of the resulting passes network is also done,looking at the number of passes,length of the chain of passes,and to network measures such as player centrality and clustering *** of the last three matches(the decisive ones) indicate that the clustering coefficient of the pass network remains high,indicating the elaborate style of the Spanish *** effectiveness of the opposing team in negating the Spanish game is reflected in the change of several network measures over time,most importantly in drops of the clustering coefficient and passing length/speed,as well as in their being able in removing the most talented players from the central positions of the ***'s ability to restore their combinative game and move the focus of the game to offensive positions and talented players is shown to tilt the balance in favor of the Spanish team.

Anaerobic Biotransformation of nitro-Compounds to Amines by Bovine Rumen Fluid

Microorganims of the bovine rumen fluid biocatalyzed the reduction of nitro-compound substrates to yield the respective amines. This enzymatic process, using ruminal contents, has rarely been reported in associa- tion with the bioreduction of nitro groups. The biotransformation reactions catalyzed by this system were de- pendent of both the electronic characteristics and the area/volume of the nitro-substrates confirming the processes are enzymatic. The semi-preparative scale biotransformation went by in good yield showing the rumen fluid may be employed in the synthesis of amines under very mild conditions and, moreover, it may have application in the bioremediation of nitro-compounds.

Background In ambrosia and bark beetles–fungi interaction, volatile organic compounds(VOCs) play a central role in mediating various aspects of community dynamics of beetles and/or fungi. These functions include facilitating beetle habitat location, mate identification, and fungal partner differentiation. However, the understanding on this context remains limited, especially in the globally distributed subfamily Platypodinae, which comprises predomi-nantly ambrosia beetles. There is a lack of chemical data on ambrosia fungi from native South American species. This study addresses this gap by characterizing VOCs from twelve fungal species associated with Megaplatypus mutatus and assessing species-specific behavioral responses during *** Fungal VOCs were collected by gas chromatography–mass spectrometry combined with solid-phase microextraction and Y-olfactometry assays of males and females were performed at dispersal stage. Statistical analyses involved: non-metric multidimensional scaling multivariate plot and PERMAnOVA test, a cluster analysis through unweighted pair group method with Jaccard index, and finally, a chi-square goodness-of-fit test for beetle behavioral *** We identified 72 VOCs from the fungal species isolated from M. mutatus galleries, exocuticle, and gut. The olfactory behavior of M. mutatus demonstrated its capacity to discriminate between volatile profiles, showing a pref-erence for either the fungus or the control source. Our results also enhance the understanding in a chemotaxonomic context and in the behavioral responses of M. mutatus revealing the beetle's remarkable low temperature toler-ance and its capability to maintain mobility and orientation toward volatile sources even after zero-degree Celsius *** This study presents a comprehensive insight into fungal VOC profiles, emphasizing the sources of isola-tion within pest associated fungi, as well as its symbiotic species from the Raffaelea genus. In this work,we determine the Fisher and Shannon entropies,the expectation values and the squeeze state for a noncentral inversely quadratic plus exponential Mie-type potential *** proposed potential is solved under the Schr?dinger equation using a special Greene Aldrich approximation to the centrifugal term to obtain a normalised wave function within the framework of the nikiforov–Uvarov *** results are obtained for different screening parameters:α?=?0.1,0.12 and 0.13 for varying real constant parameter(B).The numerical solutions are obtained only for ground *** numerical results of Fisher entropy both for position and momentum spaces are in good agreement with existing *** normalisation constant,wave function,and probability density plots are carried out using a well designed Mathematica *** Fourier transform of position space entropy gives the momentum space entropy.
