Lands.ide mapping acros. the UK has.been carried out s.nce BGs.s.arted geological mapping in 1835. Today, BGs.geologis.s.us. a combination of remote s.ns.ng and ground-bas.d inves.igations.to s.rvey lands.ides. The development of waterproof tablet computers.（BGs.s.GMAmobile）, with inbuilt GPs.and GIs.for field data capture provides.an accurate and rapid mapping methodology for field s.rveys. Regional and national mapping of lands.ides.is.carried out in conjunction with s.te-s.ecific monitoring, us.ng terres.rial LiDAR and differential GPs.technologies. which BGs.has.s.cces.fully developed for this.application. In addition to s.rface monitoring, BGs.is.currently developing geophys.cal ground-imaging s.s.ems.for lands.ide monitoring, which provide real-time information on s.bs.rface changes.prior to failure events. BGs.s.mapping and monitoring activities.directly feed into the BGs.National Lands.ide Databas., the mos. extens.ve s.urce of information on lands.ides.in Great Britain. It currently holds.over 14 000 records.of lands.ide events. By combining BGs.s.corporate datas.ts.with expert knowledge, BGs.has.developed a lands.ide hazard as.es.ment tool, Geos.re, which provides.information on the relative lands.ide hazard s.s.eptibility at national s.ale.

One of the alternative s.s.ainable and green cons.ruction materials.to concrete is.timber. Timber is.of numerous.varieties. and this.acts.as.a barrier to the extent of its.us.ge, es.ecially in s.ructural application. Des.ite many res.arches.on wood’s.mechanical and phys.cal properties. only a few are geared toward the s.ructural application of wood. The pres.nt work inves.igated the mechanical properties.of five timber s.ecies.Gmelina arborea, Tectona grandis.(Teak), Terminalia s.perba (Afara), Ayin (Anogeis.us.leiocarpus., and Acacia (Robinia ps.udoacacia), to determine their s.itability for cons.ructing long-s.an roof trus.es. Thes. are available in the s.uth Wes.ern part of Nigeria. Their mechanical properties.bending s.rength, compres.ive s.rength, s.ear s.rength, tens.le s.rength, Modulus.of Elas.icity (MOE), Modulus.of Rupture (MOR), and dens.ty, were determined in the laboratory. The res.lts.obtained s.owed that all the timber types. except Terminalia s.perba (Afara), have higher values.of mechanical properties.than the values.that are obtainable for clas.es.of s.rength D30 to clas. D70 in the Britis. Code of Practice. It means.thes. s.ecies.are of higher quality than the s.ipulated s.rength clas.es.in the Britis. code. The res.lts.als. s.ow that the order of relevance of the s.ecies.for s.ructural des.gn (or work) is.Acacia (Robinia ps.udoacacia), Ayin (Anogeis.us.leiocarpus., Gmelina Arborea, and Tectona grandis.(Teak). Terminalia s.perba (Afara) is.not recommended for s.ructural works.

This.paper emphas.zed the us. of rice hus. as. (RHA) and s.garcane bagas.e as. (s.A) in improving concrete properties. and als. their combined effects.on workability, compres.ive s.rength, flexural s.rength, permeability and water abs.rption capacity. Thus. in this.s.udy, the water-to-cement ratio was.kept cons.ant (0.45), the binder materials.content for conventional mix was.kept cons.ant at (350 kg/ms.p>3s.p>) and the partial replacement of cement with RHAs.A us.d was.5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, 25%, and 30% by weight of cement. The maximum compres.ive s.rength was.noted at a 5% replacement level of cement with RHAs.A. The Res.lts.s.owed that the optimum replacement of cement with RHAs.A in concrete was.5%, which was.found to increas. the compres.ive s.rength by 15%, flexural s.rength by 3.4%, lowered permeability by 50%, lowered s.rptivity by 11.34% as.compared with control concrete at 90 days.of curing time. The micro-s.ructural tes. res.lts.further es.ablis.ed that RHA and s.A have a high content of s.Os.b>2s.b> which enables.them to be more reactive in concrete and als. revealed that the pres.nce of RHAs.A depletes.Ca(OH)s.b>2s.b> crys.als. converting it into CaHs.b>2s.b>Os.b>4s.b>s. (C-s.H gel) leading to the s.rengthening of bond within the concrete matrix.

Fores. canopy water s.orage (s., direct throughfall fraction (p) and mean evaporation rate to mean rainfall intens.ty ratio (E/R) vary between s.orms.and s.as.nally. Typically, res.archers.only quantify the mean growing and dormant s.as.n values.of s. p and E/R for deciduous.fores.s. thereby ignoring s.as.nal changes.s. p and E/R .Pas. res.archers.adapted the mean method, which is.us.ally us.d to es.imate s. p and E/R on an annual or s.as.nal bas.s. to es.imate the s.me canopy variables.on a per s.orm bas.s.(individual s.orm (Is. method). The dis.dvantage of the Is.method is.that it requires.more expens.ve equipment and the calculation of the canopy variables.is.more labor intens.ve relative to the mean method. The goal of this.s.udy was.to explore the us. of the Is.method for northern hardwood fores.s.and to determine whether es.imates.of s. p and E/R derived by the Is.method produce more accurate es.imates.of rainfall interception los. (In) us.ng the Gas. model relative to es.imates.derived by the mean method. The Is.method es.imated that s.increas.d from approximately 0.11 mm in the early s.ring to 1.2 mm in the s.mmer and then declined to 0.24 mm after fall s.nes.ence. Direct throughfall decreas.d from 0.4 in the early s.ring to 0.11 in the s.mmer, and then increas.d to 0.4 after leaf s.nes.ence. When meas.rement period es.imates.of p, s.and E/R derived by the Is.and mean methods.were applied to the Gas. model, the modeled es.imates.of In differed from the meas.red values.by 14.0 mm and 1.3 mm, res.ectively. Therefore, becaus. the mean method provided more accurate es.imates.of In, the extra effort and expens. required by the Is.method is.not advantageous.for s.udies.in northern hardwood fores.s.that only need to model annual or s.as.nal es.imates.of In.

Aim: The s.udy aim was.to explore childbirth complications.among adoles.ent mothers.at Mbala General Hos.ital, Zambia. Method: A des.riptive cros.-s.ctional s.udy des.gn of 138 adoles.ent mothers.aged between 10-19 years.was.carried out over a period of five months.at a referral hos.ital (Mbala General Hos.ital) in Mbala Dis.rict, in the Northern Province of Zambia, Central Africa. Res.lts. Maternal age prevalence was.31.1% for all admis.ions. The childbirth complications.identified on admis.ion were prolonged labour (42%);during Labour-Cephalopelvic Dis.roportion (CPD) (59.7%), prolonged labour (20%), in the pos.-partum period, Pos.-Partum Hemorrhage (PPH) due atonic uterus.at 20%. The mos. prevalent co-morbidity was.Anemia (55.6%). A s.atis.ically s.gnificant as.ociation was.obs.rved between childbirth complications.and parity with a P-value of 0.001. Conclus.on: Our s.udy demons.rates.an as.ociation between childbirth complications.and parity while the childbirth complications.of prolonged labour, Contracted Pelvic Dis.roportion, premature rupture of membrane and PPH were obs.rved.
