The evidence for the impact of policy on physical activity outcomes within the school setting: A systematic review

background:Despite the well-established health benefits of physical activity(PA)for young people(aged 419 years),most do not meet PA guidelines.Policies that support PA in schools may be promising,but their impact on PA behavior is poorly understood.The aim of this systematic review was to ascertain the level and type of evidence reported in the international scientific literature for policies within the school setting that contribute directly or indirectly to increasing PA.Methods:This systematic review is compliant with Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis guidelines.Six databases were searched using key concepts of policy,school,evaluation,and PA.Following title and abstract screening of 2323 studies,25 progressed to data synthesis.Methodological quality was assessed using standardized tools,and the strength of the evidence of policy impact was described based on pre-determined codes:positive,negative,inconclusive,or untested statistically.Results:Evidence emerged for 9 policy areas that had a direct or indirect effect on PA within the school setting.These were whole school PA policy,physical education,sport/extracurricular PA,classroom-based PA,active breaks/recess,physical environment,shared use agreements,active school transport,and surveillance.The bulk of the evidence was significantly positive(54%),27%was inconclusive,9%was significantly negative,and 11%was untested(due to rounding,some numbers add to 99%or 101%).Frequency of evidence was highest in the primary setting(41%),34%in the secondary setting,and 24%in primary/secondary combined school settings.by policy area,frequency of evidence was highest for sport/extracurricular PA(35%),17%for physical education,and 12%for whole school PA policy,with evidence for shared use agreements between schools and local communities rarely reported(2%).Comparing relative strength of evidence,the evidence for shared use agreements,though sparse,was 100%positive,while 60%of the evidence for whole school PA policy,59%of the evidence for spo

bifidobacterium longum subsp. infantis is a commensal bacterium that predominates in the infant gut， playing a critical role in both preventing foreign infections and facilitating immune development. This study aimed to explore the effects of b. longum subsp. infantis supplementation on interferon-beta (IFN-β) secretion and intestinal barrier improvement in growing mice. Female and male mice were orally administered either saline or b. longum subsp. infantis CCFM1269 or I5TI (1 × 109CFU/mice per day， n = 8) from 1-week-age until 3-， 4-， and 5-week-age. RNA sequencing analysis revealed that CCFM1269 exhibited potential antiviral capacity through increasing 2’-5’ oligoadenylate synthetase (OAS). Additionally， CCFM1269 supplementation significantly increased colonic IFN-β levels which combined with OAS in 3-week-old female and male mice by activating the TLR4-TRIF-dependent signaling pathway. However， this effect was not observed in 4- and 5-week-old mice. Furthermore， both CCFM1269 were found to modulate the gut microbiota composition and enhance the intestinal barrier function in 3-， 4-， and 5-week-old mice. In summary， the results of this study suggested that b. longum subsp. infantis CCFM1269 promoting intestinal barrier and releasing IFN-β in growing mice was in a strain-specific and time-dependent manner.

This study endeavors to investigate the effects of bifidobacterium breve CCFM1078 on bone formation and resorption balance in growing bALb/c mice. Newborn bALb/c mice were assigned to the control group (administration saline) and the CCFM1078 group (administration b. breve CCFM1078， 3 × 109CFU/day) in 3-， 4-， and 5-week tests. All the groups have male and female distinctions. Our findings demonstrate that b. breve CCFM1078 exerts on the dynamic equilibrium between bone formation and resorption during the critical period of growth in mice by modulating the composition of gut microbiota and metabolites (hexadecanamide， linoleoyl ethanolamide， and palmitoyl ethanolamide)， the genes and proteins expression related to the GH/IGF-1 axis and Gs/PKA/CREb signaling pathways， as well as downstream osteogenic and osteoclastic differentiation factors. The effects of b. breve CCFM1078 were different with age and gender dependent. This finding suggests b. breve CCFM1078 may have potential applications in regulating bone metabolism in the growth period population.

Geometric morphometrics of mandibles for dietary differentiation of bovidae(Mammalia:Artiodactyla)

The mammalian family bovidae has been widely studied in ecomorphological research,with important applications to paleoecological and paleohabitat reconstructions.Most studies of bovid craniomandibular features in relation to diet have used linear measurements.In this study,we conduct landmark-based geometric-morphometric analyses to evaluate whether different dietary groups can be distinguished by mandibular morphology.Our analysis includes data for 100 species of extant bovids,covering all bovid tribes and 2 dietary classifications.For the first classification with 3 feeding categories,we found that browsers(including frugivores),mixed feeders,and grazers are moderately well separated using mandibular shape.A finer dietary classification(frugivore,browser,browser-grazer intermediate,generalist,variable grazer,and obligate grazer)proved to be more useful for differentiating dietary extremes(frugivores and obligate grazers)but performed equally or less well for other groups.Notably,frugivorous bovids,which belong in tribe Cephalophini,have a distinct mandibular shape that is readily distinguished from all other dietary groups,yielding a 100%correct classification rate from jackknife cross-validation.The main differences in mandibular shape found among dietary groups are related to the functional needs of species during forage prehension and mastication.Compared with browsers,both frugivores and grazers have mandibles that are adapted for higher biomechanical demand of chewing.Additionally,frugivore mandibles are adapted for selective cropping.Our results call for more work on the feeding ecology and functional morphology of frugivores and offer an approach for reconstructing the diet of extinct bovids.

background Examining the health outcomes of veterans who have completed the United States Veterans Health Administration’s(VHA’s)Traumatic brain Injury(TbI)Screening and Evaluation Program may aid in the refinement and improvement of clinical care initiatives within the VHA.This study compared self-reported physical functioning,cardiometabolic health conditions,and health care utilization patterns in Million Veteran Program enrollees with TbI Screening and Evaluation Program data(collected between 2007 and 2019),with the goal of enhancing understanding of potentially modifiable health conditions in this population.Methods In this observational cohort study,veterans(n=16,452)were grouped based on the diagnostic outcome of the TbI Screening and Evaluation Program:1)negative TbI screen(Screen^(-));2)positive TbI screen but no confirmed TbI diagnosis[Screen^(+)/Comprehensive TbI Evaluation(CTbIE)^(-)];or 3)positive TbI screen and confirmed TbI diagnosis(Screen^(+)/CTbIE^(+)).Chi-square tests and analysis of covariance were used to explore group differences in physical functioning,cardiometabolic health conditions,and health care utilization patterns,and logistic regressions were used to examine predictors of Screen^(+/-)and CTbIE^(+/-)group status.Results The results showed that veterans in the Screen^(+)/CTbIE^(-)and Screen^(+)/CTbIE^(+)groups generally reported poorer levels of physical functioning(P’sbolic health conditions(P’s0.5)compared with the Screen-group;however,health outcomes were generally comparable between the Screen^(+)/CTbIE^(-)and Screen^(+)/CTbIE^(+)groups.Follow-up analyses confirmed that while physical functioning,hypertension,stroke,healthcare utilization,and prescription medication use reliably distinguished between the Screen-and Screen^(+)groups(P’sbetween the Screen^(+)/CTbIE^(-)and Screen^(+)/CTbI

background and Objective: HIV, hepatitis b virus (HbV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV) are very widespread in the world, however, less than 20% of the people affected are diagnosed and treated. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of HIV, HCV and HbV co-infections in pregnant women at bangui Community University Hospital and the cost of screening. Methods: A cross-sectional study involving consenting pregnant women who came for antenatal care was performed. HIV, HCV antibodies and HbV antigens were detected using Exacto Triplex? HIV/HCV/HbsAg rapid test, cross-validated by ELISA tests. Sociodemographic and professional data, the modes of transmission and prevention of HIV and both hepatitis viruses were collected in a standard sheet and analyzed using the Epi-Info software version 7. Results: Pregnant women aged 15 to 24 were the most affected (45.3%);high school girls (46.0%), and pregnant women living in cohabitation (65.3%) were the most represented. Twenty-five (16.7%) worked in the formal sector, 12.7% were unemployed housewives and the remainder in the informal sector. The prevalence of HIV, HbV, and HCV viruses was 11.8%, 21.9% and 22.2%, respectively. The prevalence of co-infections was 8.6% for HIV-HbV, 10.2% for HIV-HCV, 14.7% for HbV-HCV and 6.5% for HIV-HbV-HCV. All positive results and 10% of negative results by the rapid test were confirmed by ELISA tests. The serology of the three viruses costs 39,000 FCFA (60 Euros) by ELISA compared to 10,000 FCFA (15.00 Euros) with Exacto Triplex? HIV/HCV/AgHbs (bioSynex, Strasbourg, France). Conclusion: The low level of education and awareness of hepatitis are barriers to development and indicate the importance of improving the literacy rate of women in the Central African Republic (CAR). Likewise, the high prevalence of the three viruses shows the need for the urgent establishment of a national program to combat viral hepatitis in the CAR.

The development of reliable catalysts with both excellent activity and recyclability for carbon dioxide(CO_(2))hydrogenation is challenging.Herein,a ternary hybrid heterogeneous catalyst,involving mononuclear Ru complex,N,P-containing porous organic polymers(POPs),and mesoporous hollow carbon spheres(Ru^(3+)-POPs@MHCS)is reported for CO_(2)hydrogenation to formate.based on comprehensive structural analyses,we demonstrated that Ru^(3+)-POPs were successfully immobilized within MHCS.The optimized Ru^(3+)-0.5POPs@MHCS catalyst,which was obtained with about 5 wt.%Ru^(3+)and 0.5 mmol POPs polymers confined into 0.3 g MHCS,exhibited high catalytic activity for CO_(2)hydrogenation to formate(turnover number(TON)>1,200 for 24 h under mild reaction conditions(4.0 MPa,120℃))and improved durability,compared to Ru^(3+)catalysts without POPs polymers(Ru^(3+)-MHCS)and unencapsulated MHCS(Ru^(3+)-0.5POPs)catalysts.The improved catalytic performance is attributed to the high surface area and large pore volume of MHCS which favors dispersion and stabilization of Ru^(3+)-POPs.Furthermore,the MHCS and POPs showed high CO_(2)adsorption ability.Ru^(3+)-POPs encapsulated into MHCS reduces the activation energy barrier for CO_(2)hydrogenation to formate.

Antibiotic use in early childhood and risk of obesity: longitudinal analysis of a national cohort

background Taking oral antibiotics during childhood has been linked with an increased risk of childhood obesity.This study assessed any potential association in number of courses of antibiotics taken between 2-3 and 4-5 years of age and body mass trajectory up to age 5.Methods The study was a secondary analysis of 8186 children and their parents from the infant cohort of the Irish National Longitudinal Study of Children.Antibiotic use was measured by parental recall between ages 2-3 and 4-5.Longitudinal models described the relationship between antibiotic exposure and body mass index (bMI) standard deviation scores andbinary outcomes,and examined interactions between covariates,which included socioeconomic status,diet assessed by food frequency questionnaires and maternal bMI.Results Any antibiotic usage between 2 and 3 years did not predict risk of overweight or obesity at age 5.Four or more courses of antibiotics between 2 and 3 years were independently associated with obesity at age 5 (odds ratio 1.6,95% confidence interval 1.11-2.31).Effect size was modest (coefficient + 0.09 body mass SD units,standard error 0.04,P =0.037).Maternal bMI modified the relationship:≥ 4 courses of antibiotics between 2 and 3 years were associated with a + 0.12 body mass SD units increase in weight at age 5 among children of normal-weight mothers (P=0.035),but not in children of overweight mothers.Conclusions Number of antibiotic courses,rather than antibiotic use,may be an important factor in any link between early antibiotic exposure and subsequent childhood obesity.Research is needed to confirm differential effects on babies of normal versus overweight/obese mothers independent of socioeconomic factors.

Application of machine learning technique for predicting and evaluating chloride ingress in concrete

The degradation of concrete structure in the marine environment is often related to chloride-induced corrosion of reinforcement steel.Therefore,the chloride concentration in concrete is a vital parameter for estimating the corrosion level of reinforcement steel.This research aims at predicting the chloride content in concrete using three hybrid models of gradient boosting(Gb),artificial neural network(ANN),and random forest(RF)in combination with particle swarm optimization(PSO).The input variables for modeling include exposure condition,water/binder ratio(W/b),cement content,silica fume,time exposure,and depth of measurement.The results indicate that three models performed well with high accuracy of prediction(R2⩾0.90).Among three hybrid models,the model using Gb_PSO achieved the highest prediction accuracy(R2=0.9551,RMSE=0.0327,and MAE=0.0181).based on the results of sensitivity analysis using SHapley Additive exPlanation(SHAP)and partial dependence plots 1D(PDP-1D),it was found that the exposure condition and depth of measurement were the two most vital variables affecting the prediction of chloride content.When the number of different exposure conditions is larger than two,the exposure significantly impacted the chloride content of concrete because the chloride ion ingress is affected by both chemical and physical processes.This study provides an insight into the evaluation and prediction of the chloride content of concrete in the marine environment.

bACKGROUND Extra-intestinal manifestations in inflammatory bowel diseases(IbD)are frequent and involve virtually all organs.Conversely,the clinical characteristics and course of inflammatory myopathies in IbD remain poorly described and mostly related to orbital myositis.Moreover,alternative therapeutic strategies in non-responder patients to corticosteroid therapy must still be clarified.CASE SUMMARY A 33-year-old woman with a history of unclassified colitis presented with acute bilateral calf pain.On admission,her clinical and biological examinations were non-specific.However,magnetic resonance imaging showed bilateral inflammatory changes in gastrocnemius muscles suggestive of myositis.Muscle biopsy confirmed the diagnosis of myositis and demonstrated an inflammatory infiltrate mainly located in the perimysial compartment including lympho-plasmocytic cells with the formation of several granulomatous structures while the endomysium was relatively spared.The combined clinical,biological and histomyopathological findings were concordant with the diagnosis of‘gastrocnemius myalgia syndrome’(GMS),a rare disorder associated with Crohn’s disease(CD).Ileocolonoscopy confirmed CD diagnosis and systemic corticosteroids(CS)therapy was started,resulting in a rapid clinical improvement.During CS tapering,however,she experienced a relapse of GMS together with a severe active ileocolitis.Infliximab was started and allowed a sustained remission of both conditions at the latest follow-up(20 mo).CONCLUSION The GMS represent a rare CD-associated inflammatory myopathy for which anti-tumour necrosis factor-αtherapy might be considered as an effective therapeutic option.
