AIm:To compare the safety and effectiveness of eyelid treatment with the ILux®-mGD Treatment System in one session versus five sessions of mechanical meibomian gland expression(mmGE)in patients with moderate to severe meibomian gland dysfunction(mGD).mETHODS:A prospective,randomized,open-label,and controlled clinical trial that compared one session of the ILux®mGD Treatment System versus five sessions of mmGE in both eyes of 130 patients aged≥18y with Ocular Surface Disease Index(OSDI)scores≥13,total meibomian gland scores(mGS)ofme(NI-TBUT)mized 1:1 to ILux®or ***:The mean age was 58±*** total mGS scores in both treatment groups were *** follow-up,there were significant differences in total mGS and per sector with Pmed using generalized estimating equations corresponding to the generalized linear model for repeated means to determine the treatment relationship with total mGS,NIBUT,and *** was a significant difference between ILux®and mmGE(Pm the first to the twelfth month in mGS,NI-BUT,and OSDI *** adverse events were ***:ILux®treatment compared to mmGE significantly improves symptoms and signs in patients with moderate to severe mGD for one year without adverse events.

This research focuses on analyzing and understanding the evolution and impact of fintech companies in Colombia,using PTm Colombia as a case study,a company that has undergone a significant transformation from its beginnings as a provider of physical recharges to its current *** a comprehensive platform for digital financial *** current research uses a qualitative descriptive approach and emphasizes understanding the perceptions and experiences in the field of Fintech in Colombia,particularly in the case of PTm *** study revealed that adaptability and customer orientation have been fundamental in the evolution of PTm,allowing the company to expand its range of services by actively listening to the needs of its users and adjusting its strategies *** addition,an accelerated and diversified growth of Fintech will be observed in Colombia,particularly in sectors such as credit and payments,driven by a constantly advancing technological environment and a regulatory framework that,although it presents challenges,also offers opportunities for financial *** growth has impacted the traditional banking sector,which,instead of being replaced by Fintech,is finding new forms of collaboration and coexistence that benefit both parties and,above all,the end *** conclusion,the study highlights how Fintech in Colombia,represented by cases such as PTm,is redefining the financial landscape through the adoption of advanced technologies,collaboration with traditional banking,and strong customer orientation.

While human immunodeficiency virus 1(HIV-1) infectionis controlled through continuous, life-long use of a combination of drugs targeting different steps of the virus cycle, HIV-1 is never completely eradicated from the body. Despite decades of research there is still no effective vaccine to prevent HIV-1 infection. Therefore, the possibility of an RNA interference(RNAi)-based cure has become an increasingly explored approach. Endogenous gene expression is controlled at both, transcriptional and post-transcriptional levels by noncoding RNAs, which act through diverse molecular mechanisms including RNAi. RNAi has the potential to control the turning on/off of specific genes through transcriptional gene silencing(TGS), as well as finetuning their expression through post-transcriptional gene silencing(PTGS). In this review we will describe in detail the canonical RNAi pathways for PTGS and TGS, the relationship of TGS with other silencing mechanisms and will discuss a variety of approaches developed to suppress HIV-1 via manipulation of RNAi. We will briefly compare RNAi strategies against other approaches developed to target the virus, highlighting their potential to overcome the major obstacle to finding a cure, which is the specific targeting of the HIV-1 reservoir within latently infected cells.

Dear Editor,Hydroxychloroquine(HCQ)is a drug widely used in the treatment of autoimmune diseases and oncologic disorders,and was even used during a brief period of time for the therapy of COVID-19 disease[1].HCQ retinopathy has a prevalence ranging from 4.3%to 13.8%.However,for a patient with a normal screening examination the risk of developing HCQ retinopathy is very low[2].The American Academy of Ophthalmology recommended visual field(VF)and optical coherence tomography(OCT)for the screening,whereas the Royal College of Ophthalmologists advised the use of OCT and fundus autofluorescence(FAF)[2-3].

Background Genotype-by-sequencing has been proposed as an alternative to SNP genotyping arrays in genomic selection to obtain a high density of markers along the *** requires a low sequencing depth to be cost effective,which may increase the error at the genotype *** generation nanopore sequencing technology offers low cost sequencing and the possibility to detect genome methylation,which provides added value to *** aim of this study was to evaluate the performance of genotype-by-low pass nanopore sequencing for estimating the direct genomic value in dairy cattle,and the possibility to obtain methylation marks *** Latest nanopore chemistry(LSK14 and Q20)achieved a modal base calling accuracy of 99.55%,whereas previous kit(LSK109)achieved slightly lower accuracy(99.1%).The direct genomic value accuracy from genotype-by-low pass sequencing ranged between 0.79 and 0.99,depending on the trait(milk,fat or protein yield),with a sequencing depth as low as 2×and using the latest chemistry(LSK114).Lower sequencing depth led to biased estimates,yet with high rank *** LSK109 and Q20 achieved lower accuracies(0.57-0.93).more than one million high reliable methylated sites were obtained,even at low sequencing depth,located mainly in distal intergenic(87%)and promoter(5%)*** This study showed that the latest nanopore technology in useful in a LowPass sequencing framework to estimate direct genomic values with high *** may provide advantages in populations with no available SNP chip,or when a large density of markers with a wide range of allele frequencies is *** addition,low pass sequencing provided nucleotide methylation status of>1 million nucleotides at≥10×,which is an added value for epigenetic studies.

Development of an analytical method based on solid-phase extraction and LC-mS/mS for the monitoring of current-use pesticides and their metabolites in human urine

Pyrethroids,organophosphorus pesticides and fipronil have been listed as priority chemicals in human biomonitoring studies because of their wide use and potential health effects in *** determination of 13 pesticides,including pyrethroids(deltamethrin,cypermethrin,permethrin,cyfluthrin,bifenthrin),organophosphorus(chlorpyrifos,chlorpyrifosmethyl,and malathion),fipronil,neonicotinoids(imidacloprid,acetamiprid and thiacloprid)and triazole(prothioconazole),together with 13 corresponding metabolites in human urine samples was achieved by solid-phase extraction and analysis by liquid chromatography coupled to tandem mass *** targeted compounds,except malathion dicarboxylic acid,were measured with a mean within-accuracy(n=5)of 71%–114%(RSD:1%–14%)and between-run(n=15)accuracy of 80%–118%(RSD:2%–14%).Limits of quantitation of the targeted analytes ranged from 0.1 to 16 pg/m *** detection result of urine samples from 25 volunteers indicated that the detection frequencies of 3,5,6-trichloro-2-pyridinol(median:448 pg/m L),6-chloropyridine-3-carboxylic acid(median:193 pg/m L),2-methyl-3-phenylbenzoic acid(median:181 pg/m L),3-phenoxybenzoic acid(median:99 pg/m L),2-isopropyl-6-methyl-4-pyrimidinol(median:77 pg/m L),cyfluthrin(median:59 pg/m L),cis-3-(2,2-dichlorovinyl)-2,2-dimethylcyclopropanecarboxylic acid(cis-DCCA,median:53 pg/m L),trans-DCCA(median:25 pg/m L),prothioconazole(median:21 pg/m L),imidacloprid(median:7 pg/m L),and prothioconazole-desthio(median:1 pg/m L)were>50%.The obtained results show that the validated method is suitable for the human biomonitoring of these currentuse pesticides and their metabolites.

Red pigment production by Penicillium purpurogenum GH2 is influenced by pH and temperature

The combined effects of pH and temperature on red pigment production and fungal morphology were evaluated in a submerged culture of Penicillium purpurogenum GH2, using Czapek-Dox media with D-xylose as a carbon source. An experimental design with a factorial fix was used: three pH values (5, 7, and 9) and two temperature levels (24 and 34 °C) were evaluated. The highest production of red pigment (2.46 g/L) was reached with a pH value of 5 and a temperature of 24 °C. Biomass and red pigment production were not directly associated. This study demon- strates that P. purpurogenum GH2 produces a pigment of potential interest to the food industry. It also shows the feasibility of producing and obtaining natural water-soluble pigments for potential use in food industries. A strong combined effect (pmperature was associated with maximal red pigment production (2.46 g/L).
