The developm.nt of foils for racing boats has changed the strategy of sailing. Recently, the Am.rica＇s cup held in San Francisco, has been the theatre of a tragicom.c history due to the foils. During the last round, the new-Zealand boat was winning by 8 to 1 against the defender USA. The winner is the first with 9 victories. USA team.understood suddenly （m.y be） how to use the control of the pitching of the inain foils by adjusting the rake in order to stabilize the ship. And USA won by 9 victories against 8 to the challenger nZ. The goal in this paper is to point out few aspects which could be taken into account in order to im.rove this m.sterious control law which is known as the key of the victory of the USA team. There are certainly m.ny reasons and in particular the cleverness of the sailors and of all the engineering team.behind this project. But it appears interesting to have a m.them.tical discussion, even if it is a partial one, on the m.chanical behaviour of these extraordinary sailing boats. The nunlerical exanlples given here are not the true ones. They have just been invented in order to explain the theoretical developm.nts concerning three points： The possibility of tacking on the foils for sailing upwind, the nature of foiling instabilities, if there are, when the boat is flying and the control laws.

Sem.-intensive free-range farm.system. are com.on in Australia, and these system. frequently practise on-range feeding. The objective of this study was to investigate the benefit of on-range choice feeding on flock perform.nce, egg quality, and range use of free-range laying hens using black soldier fly larvae(Herm.tia illucens, BSF). A total of 160 m.ture ISA brown laying hens, previously determ.ned to range daily, were allocated to a control group(control) or a treatm.nt group(BSF) with various replicates depending on the param.ter investigated. All hens were fed ad libitum.indoors with a wheat-soy based diet form.lated according to breed requirem.nts. Black soldier fly hens were offered dried BSF larvae ad libitum.on the range. Body weight, feed intake, BSF intake, egg production, feed conversion ratio, internal and external egg quality param.ters, and individual range use using radio-frequency identification(RFID)technology was evaluated. Black soldier fly hens consum.d on average 15 ± 1.7 g BSF larvae/hen per *** were no differences between BSF and control hens for any of the perform.nce param.ters obtained(P > 0.05). Egg weight, shell weight, and shell thickness of eggs from.BSF hens were significantly lower(P = 0.003, P = 0.001, and P = 0.004, respectively) than those of eggs from.control hens. Egg yolk colour was significantly paler in eggs from.BSF hens(P no significant ranging differences between the BSF and control hens were observed(P > 0.05) except for BSF hens showing longer total m.xim.m.tim. for a single visit to the range(P = 0.011). In conclusion, the average intake of BSF larvae indicated a good level of acceptance. Feed form.lation should be adjusted for the intake of the choice fed source. Aim. To determ.ne the effectiveness of the ski 1, sk9 and ski 1 TnUA5 Sertoli cell lines in binding germ.cells in vitro. m.thods： The im.ortalized Sertoli cell lines sk9, ski 1 and ski 1 TnUA5 were used in co-culture experim.nts with germ.cells in m.dia with or without reproductive horm.nes and incubated for 44 h at 32℃. The num.er of germ.cells bound to Sertoli cells was then determ.ned and statistically analyzed. Western blot analysis and reverse transcriptasepolym.rase chain reaction （RT-PCR） studies were em.loyed to investigate the presence of cell adhesion proteins and follicle stim.lating horm.ne （FSH） receptor, respectively. Results： no statistical difference between the num.er of bound step-8 sperm.tids and bound pre-step 8 sperm.tids on Sertoli cells from.any of the cell lines existed. After the addition of germ.cells, Sertoli ceils showed m.re lipid accum.lation in their cytoplasm. indicating active phagocytosis. Western blot analysis in the ski I TnUA5 line indicated the expression of n-cadherin. FSH-only and testosterone-only treatm.nts increased n-cadherin expression, regardless of germ.cell addition. The addition of germ.cells to the ski l TnUA5 Sertoli cells increased the expression of espin, as did the addition of FSH with germ.cells. RT-PCR studies of the ski I TnUA5 cells indicated that the m.nA for FSH receptor decreased with successive passages. Conclusion： In vitro binding between isolated germ.cells and sk9, skll or skll TnUA5 Sertoli cells is not feasible, and therefore these cell lines are not useful for the in vitro investigation of Sertoli-germ.cell interactions and prim.ry Sertoli cell isolates m.st still be used.
