Meplazumab,a humanized cD147 antibody,has shown favourable safety and efficacy in our previous clinical *** deFLEcT(NcT04586153),167 patients with severe cOVID-19 were enroled and randomized to receive three dosages of meplazumab and a *** at 0.12 mg/kg,compared to the placebo group,showed clinical benefits in significantly reducing mortality by 83.6%(2.4%vs.14.6%,p=0.0150),increasing the proportion of patients alive and discharged without supplemental oxygen(82.9%vs.70.7%,p=0.0337)and increasing the proportion of patients who achieved sustained clinical improvement(41.5%vs.31.7%).The response rate in the 0.2 mg/kg group was relatively increased by 16.0%compared with the placebo group(53.7%vs.46.3%).Meplazumab also reduced the viral loads and multiple cytokine *** with the placebo group,the 0.3 mg/kg significantly increased the virus negative rate by 40.6%(p=0.0363)and reduced IL-8 level(p=0.0460);the 0.2 mg/kg increased the negative conversion rate by 36.9%,and reduced IL-4(p=0.0365)and IL-8 levels(p=0.0484).In this study,the adverse events occurred at a comparable rate across the four groups,with no unexpected safety findings *** conclusion,meplazumab promoted cOVID-19 convalescence and reduced mortality,viral load,and cytokine levels in severe cOVID-19 population with good safety profile.

Though they reduce microorganism growth, current hospital disinfectants also damage many of today’s modern electronic devices such as tablets and smartphones. Herein, the efficacy of a new chlorhexidine digluconate gel (cDG) was tested as a disinfectant for mobile and electronic devices in a clinical environment. Specifically, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus were used to infect the screen of eight smartphones. The cDG was prepared at concentrations of 2%, 4% and 6%, and tested on paper disks infected with these bacteria before being tested on the smartphones. The devices were disinfected with the cDG gel (4%) at two times: immediately and after 5 min of the bacterial contamination. In all cases, the cDG gel eliminated 100% of gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms compared to the control (without any agent). In addition, the gel did not damage the smartphones. Therefore, our study suggests that the cDG gel may be applied to disinfect a wide range of electronic devices for health care professionals in the hospital environment.

Duration and intensity of rainfall events with the same erosivity change sediment yield and runoff rates

Understanding rock mineralogy is essential for formation evaluation,improving the calculation of porosity and hydrocarbon *** primary method to obtain the mineralogy from a well is by applying a model to the geochemical tool’s chemical ***,creating a mineralogical model presents challenges such as the minerals’chemical composition and the decision to include a mineral in the *** traditional application of machine learning can make mineral models less realistic since conventional training is developed based on a set of minerals with different occurrences,lowering some minerals’*** present research proposes the stepped machine learning(SML),a stepped way to use machine learning to create a mineralogical model from chemical and mineralogical data.A database was assembled with the elemental concentration obtained with XRF analyses and the mineral concentrations obtained with XRD *** chemical elements were Al,ca,Fe,K,Mg,Mn,Na,Si,and *** minerals were calcite,dolomite,quartz,clays,K-feldspar,plagioclase,and *** algorithms were tested:MLP,GAN,Random Forest,and XGBoost,with XGBoost showing the best *** was applied,where a mineral model results are used to train a subsequent *** allowed for a significant improvement in some models,notably to clays with an increase in R 2 from 0.597 to 0.853,quartz an increase from 0.673 to 0.869,and calcite,from 0.758 to 0.862.A decrease in the mean squared error of these minerals’models was also *** model was applied to the geochemical logs from three wells drilled in the Brazilian pre-salt,and the results were compared with XRD *** SML model was able to honor the mineral concentrations for different *** is demonstrated that the integration between machine learning tools and geological knowledge in SML was crucial for creating a representative mineralogical model.

Buzz-pollination in Neotropical bees:genus-dependent frequencies and lack of optimal frequency for pollen release

Over 50 genera of bees release pollen from flower anthers using thoracic vibrations,a phenomenon known as *** efficiency of this process is directly affected by the mechanical properties of the buzzes,namely the duration,amplitude,and ***,although the effects of the former two properties are well described,the role of buzz frequency on pollen release remains ***,nearly all of the existing studies describing vibrational properties of natural buzz-pollination are limited to bumblebees(Bombus)and carpenter bees(Xvlocopa)constraining our current understanding of this behavior and its ***,we attempted to minimize this shortcoming by testing whether flower anthers exhibit optimal frequency for pollen release and whether bees tune their buzzes to match these(optimal)*** true,certain frequencies will trigger more pollen release and lighter bees will reach buzz frequencies closer to this optimum to compensate their smaller buzz *** strategies were used to test these hypotheses:(i)the use of(artificial)vibrational playbacks in a broad range of buzz frequencies and amplitudes to assess pollen release by tomato plants(Solarium Ivcopersicum L.)and(ii)the recording of natural buzzes of Neotropical bees visiting tomato plants during *** playback experiment indicates that although buzz frequency does affect pollen release,no optimal frequency exists for *** addition,the recorded results of natural buzz-pollination reveal that buzz frequencies vary with bee genera and are not correlated with body ***,neither bees nor plants are tuned to optimal pollen release *** frequency of buzz-pollination is a likely consequence of the insect flight machinery adapted to reach higher accelerations,while flower plant response to buzz-pollination is the likely result of its pollen granular properties.

Mini-cutting technique for Khaya anthotheca: selection of suitable IBA concentration and nutrient solution for its vegetative propagation

Khaya anthotheca is a hardwood species from Africa and recently introduced to Brazil. This species yields high-quality wood for diverse applications, but little has been done toward an effective propagation method for large-scale production in nurseries. We evaluated the effects of different concentrations of macro and micronutrients（i.e., 100, 50 and 25% of the concentration of a referenced solution） combined with indole-3-butyric acid（IBA） at 0 and 2 g L-1 on the survival rate of mini-stumps and the survival and adventitious rooting of K. anthotheca mini-cuttings. The mini-stumps were grown from a source of seeds imported from Ghana, West Africa. The ministumps survived at a high rate（97%）. consistently high shoot yields were obtained from the mini-stumps（average of 1.8 per mini-stump）. High survival percentage of minicuttings and adventitious rooting were observed when solutions with 100 and 50% of the nutrients concentration were combined with 2 g L-1 IBA. Histological sections analyzed through optical microscopy indicated the tissues from mini-cutting stems were juvenile, which might have stimulated adventitious rooting. These results have important implications for further work aimed at establishing propagation strategies for K. anthotheca, which are of prime importance for assisting breeding programs of this species.
