The Suquia River,the largest urban river in Cordoba(Argentina),has been severely polluted for *** must be taken to restore its environmental quality by managing riparian zones for increased water-self *** current study aimed to characterize organic matter(OM) dynamics and humic substances(HS) spectrochemical properties along the lower-middle basin of the Suquia *** soil(0-20 cm) and sediment(0-10 cm) samples were collected from a reference location(S1)and four polluted sites(S2-S5) during a low-flow *** contents of soil and sedimentary OM and HS fractions were analyzed by wet oxidation,as well as HS Fourier transform infrared(FT-IR) and ultraviolet-visible(Uv-vis) spectrochemical *** OM and HS fractions from riparian soil were high upstream of Cordoba City(S1 and S2,50.2-50.4 g/kg OM) and within a 50 km downstream location(S5,30.9 g/kg OM) owing to a surplus of fresh plant biomass-carbon(C) *** heterogeneous sediment samples did not show any significant differences among sites(P> 0.05).The lowest values of the ratio of absorbances at 465 and 665 nm(E4/E6)(1.78) and the Δ log K(0.15) coefficient(a measure of HS maturity degree) were obtained downstream of Cordoba City,for both riparian soil and sediment,indicating that HS were enriched by more condensed aromatic structures within highly degraded portions of the *** samples exhibited similar IR spectra,implying overlapping recalcitrant-C structures at the functional group level,but with different absorbance *** from the current study constitute a baseline for understanding the chemical nature of HS from sediment and riparian soil along the Suquia River and can be used as a reference for future studies tracking OM compositional changes over time.

Over the past century,age-related diseases,such as cancer,type-2 diabetes,obesity,and mental illness,have shown a significant increase,negatively impacting overall quality of *** on aged animal models have unveiled a progressive discoordination at multiple regulatory levels,including transcriptional,translational,and post-translational processes,resulting from cellular stress and circadian *** circadian clock emerges as a key regulator,sustaining physiological homeostasis and promoting healthy aging through timely molecular coordination of pivotal cellular processes,such as stem-cell function,cellular stress responses,and inter-tissue communication,which become disrupted during *** the crucial role of hypothalamic circuits in regulating organismal physiology,metabolic control,sleep homeostasis,and circadian rhythms,and their dependence on these processes,strategies aimed at enhancing hypothalamic and circadian function,including pharmacological and non-pharmacological approaches,offer systemic benefits for healthy *** brain-directed drug administration represents a promising avenue for effectively targeting specific brain regions,like the hypothalamus,while reducing side effects associated with systemic drug delivery,thereby presenting new therapeutic possibilities for diverse age-related conditions.

Carcinogenic process has been proposed to relay on the capacity to induce local tissue damage and proliferative repair. Liver has a great regeneration capacity and currently, most studies point towards the dominant role of hepatocytes in regeneration at all levels of liver damage. The most frequent liver cancer is hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC). Historical findings originally led to the idea that the cell of origin of HCC might be a progenitor cell. However, current linage tracing studies put the progenitor hypothesis of HCC origin into question. In agreement with their dominant role in liver regeneration, mature hepatocytes are emerging as the cell of origin of HCC, although, the specific hepatocyte subpopulation of origin is yet to be determined. The relationship between the cancer cell of origin(CCO) and cancer-propagating cells, known as hepatic cancer stem cell(HCSC) is unknown. It has been challenging to identify the definitive phenotypic marker of HCSC, probably due to the existence of different cancer stem cells(CSC) subpopulations with different functions within HCC. There is a dynamic interconversion among different CSCs, and between CSC and non-CSCs. Because of that, CSC-state is currently defined as a description of a highly adaptable and dynamic intrinsic property of tumor cells, instead of a static subpopulation of a tumor. Altered conditions could trigger the gain of stemness, some of them include: EMT-MET, epigenetics, microenvironment and selective stimulus such as chemotherapy. This CSC heterogeneity and dynamism makes them out reach from therapeutic protocols directed to a single target. A further avenue of research in this line will be to uncover mechanisms that trigger this interconversion of cell populations within tumors and target it.

Cholangiocarcinoma(CC) arising from the large intrahepatic bile ducts and extrahepatic hilar bile ducts share clinicopathological features and have been called hilar and perihilar CC as a ***,"hilar and perihilar CC" are also used to refer exclusively to the intrahepatic hilar type CC or,more commonly,the extrahepatic hilar ***,a major distinction can be made between papillary and non-papillary ***,most hilar CCs are well to moderately differentiated conventional type(biliary) ***,CK7,CK20,CEA and MUC1 are normally expressed,being MUC2 positive in less than 50% of *** main premalignant lesions are known:biliary intraepithelial neoplasia(BilIN) and intraductal papillary neoplasm of the biliary tract(IPNB).IPNB includes the lesions previously named biliary papillomatosis and papillary carcinoma.A series of 29 resected hilar CC from our archives is ***(82.8%) were conventional type adenocarcinomas,mostly well to moderately differentiated,although with a broad morphological spectrum;three cases exhibited a poorly differentiated cell component resembling signet ring *** was observed in 5(17.2%),four of them with an associated invasive carcinoma.A clear cell type carcinoma,an adenosquamous carcinoma and two gastric foveolar type carcinomas were observed.

Traffic is a main source of air pollutants in urban areas and consequently daily peak exposures tend to occur during *** exposure to particulate matter(PM)was monitored while cycling and travelling by bus,car and metro along an assigned route in Lisbon(Portugal),focusing on PM_(2.5) and PM_(1)0(PM with aerodynamic diametervely)mass concentrations and their chemical *** vehicles,the indoor-outdoor interplay was also *** PM_(2.5) mean concentrations were 28±5,31±9,34±9 and 38±21μg/m 3 for bus,bicycle,car and metro modes,*** carbon concentrations when travelling by car were 1.4 to 2.0 times higher than in the other transport modes due to the closer proximity to exhaust *** are marked differences in PM chemical composition depending on transport *** particular,Fe was the most abundant component of metro PM,derived from abrasion of rail-wheel-brake *** concentrations of Zn and Cu in cars and buses were related with brake and tyre wear particles,which can penetrate into the *** the motorised transport modes,Fe,Zn,Cu,Ni and K were correlated,evidencing their common traffic-related *** average,the highest inhaled dose of PM_(2.5) was observed while cycling(55μg),and the lowest in car travels(17μg).Cyclists inhaled higher doses of PM_(2.5) due to both higher inhalation rates and longer journey times,with a clear enrichment in mineral *** presented results evidence the importance of considering the transport mode in exposure assessment studies.

Fluorescent Proteins(FP)can be applied as biomarkers and biosensors in the industrial and medical fields,but their large-scale use,especially for new industrial applications,is limited due to their low ***,the discovery of additives capable of preserving the activity of FP at room temperature and under stress conditions can help to expand and facilitate their commercial *** this goal,we evaluated the application of 1-alkyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride-based([C_(n)mim]Cl)ionic liquids(ILs)as additives to preserve the activity of Enhanced Green Fluorescent Protein(EGFP)at different storage times and under unfavorable ***[C_(n)mim]Cl solutions(at 0.100 mol L^(-1))were able to preserve EGFP fluorescence for longer than the phosphatesaline buffer(PBS)and NaCl solutions,increasing its fluorescence manifestation from 1 to 3 months.[C_(n)mim]Cl with shorter to medium cationic alkyl chains were the most effective in preserving EGFP fluorescence.[C_(n)mim]Cl also protected EGFP activity in the presence of the surfactant SDS,the acid guanidine hydrochloride,and H_(2)O_(2).Therefore,[C_(n)mim]Cl can be added to aqueous solutions to preserve EGFP fluorescence activity at room temperature for longer storage times and to reduce the negative impact of denaturing agents on ***,there is a massive potential for the application of ILs as additives to preserve FP in the long-term without refrigeration and under unfavorable conditions,and this is fundamental to enable expansion of FP in industrial and commercial applications.
