Objective:To investigate the chemical compositions and antimicrobial potentials of the essential oils and oleoresins obtained from fresh and dried Mentha longifolia ***:Gas chromatography and gas chromatography-mass spectrometer techniques were used to determine the profiling of the essential oils and *** order to determine the antimicrobial efficacy of the volatile oil and oleoresins,the pathogenic fungus Aspergillus niger(1884),Aspergillus flavus(2479),Fusarium monoliforme(1893),Fusarium graminearum(2088)and Penicillium viridicatum(2007)were undertaken whereas four pathogenic bacteria Bacillus subtilis(1790),Staphylococcus aureus(3103)(Gram-positive),Escherichia coli(1672),Pseudomonas aeruginosa(1942)(Gram-negative)were selected for the present *** poisoned,inverted Petri plate,agar well diffusion and disk diffusion methods were employed for investigating antimicrobial ***:Piperitenone oxide,an oxygenated monoterpene,dominated the chemical compositions of essential oils and oleoresins whose compositions varied from 23.5%-87.8%.Both essential oils showed good antifungal activities against Aspergillus and Fusarium *** antibacterial investigations revealed that Gram-positive bacteria were more sensitive to the essential ***:Drying the fresh herbal materials influences the chemical contents and the biological activities of the essential oils and *** results indicate that essential oils of Mentha longifolia *** be possible candidates for further investigations to isolate and characterize their active principles as possible new natural preservatives.

Epilepsy is one of the most common serious neurological disorders. Pharmacoresistant epilepsy patients are poorly controlled or their seizures are refractory to drug treatment. Resective surgery is frequently a promising therapy in this population, however, not all the patients meet the eligibility criteria for the surgical treatment. Deep brain stimulation has been investigated in clinical studies and animal studies as an alternative treatment, but the optimal stimulation parameters remain an issue. The present study was designed to investigate the effect of unilateral high-frequency stimulation (HFS) of hippocampus on seizure development by using the hippocampal rapid kindling method (hRK) in rats, and compared the results with those of low-frequency stimulation previously published by our group. We used male Wistar rats implanted with electrodes in the ventral hippocampus. All rats underwent hRK (biphasic square wave pulses, 20 Hz for 10 seconds) during three consecutive days (twelve stimulations per day). The control group (hRK;n = 7) received only RK stimulus, while the treated group (HFS-hRK;n = 9) received also HFS (biphasic square wave pulses, 130 Hz for 30 seconds) immediately before the RK stimulus, during three consecutive days. At the end of behavioral testing 78% (p 0.01) of the animals receiving HFS treatment were still not fully kindled staying in stages 0 -III (p 0.01). HFS group needed a higher number of stimulations to achieve stage III (p 0.05) with respect to control group. However, no significant differences in the cumulative daily afterdischarge duration were observed. HFS did not present significant differences compared with LFS in any of studied parameters. The findings suggest that unilateral HFS applied on hippocampus effectively inhibited the epileptogenic process induced by hippocampal rapid kindling. Introduction: Monitoring the response of CETC to therapy in lung cancer allows early detection of patients at risk of progression. Analysis of the EGFR-gene amplification in these cells may help to characterize patients who might benefit from tyrosine kinase inhibitors. Methods: CETCs were quantified at least twice during treatment from blood of 52 patients with advanced non small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) using fluorescence labelled anti-EpCAM. EGFR-gene amplification was analysed in these cells with double probe (EGFR/CEP7) using FISH analysis. Results: Progression of the tumor was observed in 30 of the 52 patients (58%). With respect to changes in CETCs during therapy and progression free survival 31 patients showed a decrease in CETCs, 2 developing a single brain metastasis and 12 progressive disease;20 patients showed an increase in CETC more than twofold 16 of which developed progressive disease. The difference was highly significant (p=0.007 Fisher’s exact test) irrespective of age, sex, tumor size, pathological type and therapy. Kaplan-Meier progression free survival was significantly different between patients with decreasing and increaseing CETC (p=0.038). 5/20 patients tested were positive for EGFR amplification with 85-100% of EpCAM positive cells showing this chromosomal abnormality. One patient could be followed during therapy with increasing CETC during therapy with bevacizumab followed by relapse. He subsequently received erlotinib resulting in a decrease in CETC and is still free of progress after 516 days. Conclusions: These results show that peripherally circulating tumor cells in patients with advanced NSCLC are influenced by systemic chemotherapy and an increase in spite of therapy is a marker of aggressiveness of the tumor cells. Determination of the EGFR amplification might help to better treat part of these patients.

由于从环境样品中分离和培养细菌的困难 ,分子生物学方法已发展用来描述和鉴定微生物群落。近年来基于 DNA方法的群落分析得到了迅速的发展 ,如 PCR扩增技术 ,克隆文库法 ,荧光原位杂交法 ,限制性酶切片段长度多态性法 ,变性和温度梯度凝胶电泳法。DGGE已广泛用于分析自然环境中细菌、蓝细菌 ,古菌、微微型真核生物、真核生物和病毒群落的生物多样性。这一技术能够提供群落中优势种类信息和同时分析多个样品。具有可重复和容易操作等特点 ,适合于调查种群的时空变化 ,并且可通过对切下的带进行序列分析或与特异性探针杂交分析鉴定群落成员。DGGE分析微生物群落的一般步骤如下 :一是核酸的提取 ,二是 1 6Sr RNA,1 8S r RNA或功能基因如可容性甲烷加单氧酶羟化酶基因 ( mmo X)和氨加单氧酶 α-亚单位基因 ( amo A)片段的扩增 ,三是通过DGGE分析 PCR产物。DGGE使用具有化学变性剂梯度的聚丙烯酰胺凝胶 ,该凝胶能够有区别的解链PCR扩增产物。由 PCR产生的不同的 DNA片段长度相同但核苷酸序列不同。因此不同的双链 DNA片段由于沿着化学梯度的不同解链行为将在凝胶的不同位置上停止迁移 [5] 。 DNA解链行为的不同导致一个凝胶带图案 ,该图案是微生物群落中主要种类的一个轮廓。 DGGE使用所有生物中保守的基因?

本案是一处位于法国Juan les Pins的海滨度假屋。这套面积仅为四十平米的公寓位于一栋建于二十世纪六七十年代的建筑内,可远眺大海。来自意大利的设计工作室UdA承担本次改造的室内设计。设计师通过灵活的设计方案在这方寸之间设计出多种空间布局方式,也进一步拉近了室内人与人之间的距离。设计师想通过设计激发人们海边生活的热情,使在这个四十平米的"背景"下生活的所有人都演绎彼此不同的故事。因而设计师想到利用铁架和木材在室内建造多个小型的方形"建筑"打造出不同寻常的空间和人际关系。独特的设计方式不仅能促就度假时不同的人际关系模式,同时还满足了业主对在这个狭窄的空间内打造一个宽敞的休闲区及两个分开的睡眠区的需求;而且,室内的每个区域都拥有欣赏海景的良好视角。室内轻质的封闭式"建筑"结构的设计灵感来源于海边棚屋和简易搭建的更衣处的构造,它们具有容易组装、价格经济等特点,还可根据住户的品味和兴致灵活拆建。
