Distributed Simulation Platforms and Data Passing Tools for Natural Hazards Engineering: Reviews, Limitations,and Recommendations

here has been a strong need for simulation environments that are capable of modeling deep interdependencies between complex systems encountered during natural hazards,such as the interactions and coupled effects between civil infrastructure systems response,human behavior,and social policies,for improved community *** such complex components with an integrated simulation requires continuous data exchange between different simulators simulating separate models during the entire simulation *** can be implemented by means of distributed simulation platforms or data passing *** order to provide a systematic reference for simulation tool choice and facilitating the development of compatible distributed simulators for deep interdependent study in the context of natural hazards,this article focuses on generic tools suitable for integration of simulators from different fields but not the platforms that are mainly used in some specific *** this aim,the article provides a comprehensive review of the most commonly used generic distributed simulation platforms(Distributed Interactive Simulation(DIS),High Level Architecture(HLA),Test and Training Enabling Architecture(TENA),and Distributed Data Services(DDS))and data passing tools(Robot Operation System(ROS)and Lightweight Communication and Marshalling(LCM))and compares their advantages and *** specific limitations in existing platforms are identified from the perspective of natural hazard *** mitigating the identified limitations,two platform design recommendations are provided,namely message exchange wrappers and hybrid communication,to help improve data passing capabilities in existing solutions and provide some guidance for the design of a new domain-specific distributed simulation framework.

Examining perception of j.b satisfaction and intention to leave among ICU nurses in China

Obj.ctives:Previous studies in China's Mainland found ICU nurses to be less satisfied with their j.bs and more inclined to leave them than are nurses in other hospital *** aimed to determine ICU nurses'perspectives on the factors that influence j.b satisfaction and whether or not to continue working in the ***:Nine ICU nurses were asked five open-ended questions to elicit the nurses'perspectives on j.b satisfaction and intentions to *** were analyzed according to the process described by Knafl and Webster(1988).Core concepts were identified using the constant comparative ***:Two themes emerged as maj.r influences on j.b dissatisfaction:1)stress experienced from excessive workload demands and the ICU work environment,and 2)a lack of respect and recognition for the nurses'*** themes emerged as maj.r influences on j.b satisfaction:1)recognition of work,and 2)professional opportunities and relationships with *** effects of j.b satisfaction or dissatisfaction on the nurses'intentions to leave their j.bs varied,although three categories were ***:For ICU nurses in China,sources of j.b dissatisfaction are potentially remedied with simple *** staffing is necessary but not sufficient for a positive work *** should address the factors that directly affect their nurses'levels of j.b satisfaction,as it will ultimately result in less staff turnover and greater patient care.

Communicating risks and mitigation benefits associated with natural hazards such as wind to the general public is challenging given the location-dependency of parameters and the complexity of the *** tools play a crucial role in educating residents,decision-makers,and stakeholders regarding potential wind hazard losses to,for example,residential ***,a notable gap exists on the practical incorporation of mitigation actions within these *** gap hampers the collective awareness and understanding among stakeholders,communities,and citizens regarding the tangible advantages of mitigation strategies in reducing wind-related ***,there exists a need to elucidate the functionality and obj.ctives of these tools in a more accessible *** study aims to present and outline the wind risk and mitigation calculator tool(WRMCT)within the Hazardaware platform,which is an address-based risk assessment *** tool,developed for 196 counties in the Gulf of Mexico coastal area,facilitates users’education of potential risks and benefits associated with mitigation *** enables users to access location-specific wind risk and interactively suggests potential mitigation actions along with economic savings to support informed decisions and residential risk *** intends to enhance users’ability to make informed decisions,take proactive measures in mitigating wind hazards,and contribute to the development of resilient,residential communities.

In recent years,volatile fatty acid(VFA)production through anaerobic fermentation of sewage sludge,instead of methane production,has been regarded as a high-value and promising roadmap for sludge stabilization and resource *** review first presents the effects of some essential factors that influence VFA production and *** the second part,we present an extensive analysis of conventional pretreatment and co-fermentation strategies ultimately addressed to improving VFA production and ***,the effectiveness of these approaches is summarized in terms of sludge degradation,hydrolysis rate,and VFA production and *** to published studies,it is concluded that some pretreatments such as alkaline and thermal pretreatment are the most effective ways to enhance VFA production from sewage *** possible reasons for the improvement of VFA production by different methods are also ***,this review also highlights several current technical challenges and opportunities in VFA production with spectrum control,and further related research is proposed.

Closing the gap in nursing education: Comparing nursing registration systems in Australia and China

Aim： To provide a better understanding of how the nursing registration process in China compares to that of Australia and to identify common features and potential barriers that may affect or facilitate the development of China＇s ever-demanding need for healthcare and nursing education. Background： Chinese nursing graduates are increasingly being used to augment the shortage of nurses in other countries, including Australia. However, China is desperately in need of strategies to cope with its current challenges in healthcare and nursing education. There is little discussion concerning the differences in nursing registration systems between countries, such as China and Australia. It is unknown how the differences and potential similarities of nursing registration systems in these two countries contribute to or impede nurses＇ training in China; or the potential for these Australia trained Chinese nursing returnees to cope with the challenges China is facing. Evaluation： Using Bereday＇s four steps comparison method, this paper will describe, explain, compare, and contrast the nursing registration systems of Australia and China. Key issues： Differences were found in the qualification requirements for：（ 1 ） initial registration, （2） levels of registration, （3） continuing professional development, （4） requirements of the registration renewal process, and （5） whether each country has a national nursing registration system. These factors may affect nursing education and healthcare development in China. Conclusions： Although differences in the nursing registration process between Australia and China were identified, the insights gained from this study support the development of strategies to help with China＇s ever-demanding need for nursing education and healthcare development, thereby alleviating its nursing shortage. Carbon is a keystone element in global biogeochemical *** plays a fundamental role in biotic andabiotic processes in the ocean,which intertwine to mediate the chemistry and redox status of carbon in the ocean and the *** interactions between abiotic and biogenic carbon(***2,Ca CO3,organic matter)in the ocean are complex,and there is a half-century-old enigma about the existence of a huge reservoir of recalcitrant dissolved organic carbon(RDOC)that equates to the magnitude of the pool of atmospheric *** concepts of the biological carbon pump(BCP)and the microbial loop(ML)shaped our understanding of the marine carbon *** more recent concept of the microbial carbon pump(MCP),which is closely connected to those of the BCP and the ML,explicitly considers thesignificance of the ocean’s RDOC reservoir and provides a mechanistic framework for the exploration of its formation and *** of the MCP has benefited from advanced‘omics’and novel research in biological oceanography and microbial *** need to predict the ocean’sresponse to climate change makes an integrative understanding of the BCP,ML and MCP a high *** this review,we summarize and discuss progress since the proposal of the MCP in 2010 and formulate research questions for the future.

Conversation with presence:A narrative inquiry into the learning experience of Chinese students studying nursing at Australian universities

Aim：the aim of this methodological article is to reflect on and extend current understandings of the possibilities of narrative inquiry research giving voice to students, and to expand the power of story by sharing the philosophical, theoretical, and methodological considerations of narrative inquiry in an international education ***： there has been much discussion about the need in providing a ‘voice＇ to people across the society, who feel marginalised in many contexts, including international students. There is limited research about Chinese students studying in Australia. In particular, the learning experience of Chinese nursing students has not been fully explored nor ***： to enhance teaching and learning in international education contexts, and to cater better to international students, it is important to understand their experiences and perspectives. There is no better way to achieve this level of understanding than to let students＇ voices be heard, to let them speak for and about themselves because reality exists within these students＇ ***： in the context of international education, narrative inquiry as a research methodology,when used with sensitivity and reflexivity, through the power of stories, offers a new dimension in the international education research.
