The Etobicoke Exfiltration System（EES）,named after the first installation in Etobicoke（now part of the City of Toronto） in 1991,consist of installation of two perforated pipes installed in a storm sewer trench bedding material that are wrapped in filter cloth and plugged at their downstream *** system allows the distribution of collected stormwater runoff along sewer system（using perforated pipes）and its storage（in the bedding material） and exfiltration into the surrounding *** was devised as a Best Management Practice（BMP） aimed at managing the peak flow,volume,quality,duration and frequency of stormwater discharges to receiving water bodies,and proved to be a cost efficient and robust option through more than 20 years of service with minimal *** objective of this paper is to describe the current research on modelling tools for estimation of long term performance of EES and physical experiments of EES hydraulic *** design of the original EES installation was based on relatively simple calculations,in which the aim was to capture and exfiltrate runoff from a 15 mm rainfall ***,computer modelling of EES was incorporated in MIDDUS software package,which allowed the response of the system to be simulated for a design storm *** first objective of current research was to investigate approaches for continuous modelling of EES using USEPA SWMM for the purpose of estimating average long-term *** approaches were investigated in which the EES was modelled in SWMM using different combinations of available model elements:nodes,links,orifices and *** most sensible approach models exfiltration into the surrounding soil using a pump to represent the stage-exfiltration relationship,and a combination of orifices and a storage node to represent the perforated pipe connections and voids in the bedding material,respectively.A calibrated model of a 10.45 ha residential sewershed in the Town of Richmond Hill,Canad

This study explores the potential of Artificial Intelligence(AI)in early screening and prognosis of Dry Eye Disease(DED),aiming to enhance the accuracy of therapeutic approaches for eye-care *** the promising opportunities,challenges such as diverse diagnostic evidence,complex etiology,and interdisciplinary knowledge integration impede the interpretability,reliability,and applicability of AI-based DED detection *** research conducts a comprehensive review of datasets,diagnostic evidence,and standards,as well as advanced algorithms in AI-based DED detection over the past five *** DED diagnostic methods are categorized into three groups based on their relationship with AI techniques:(1)those with ground truth and/or comparable standards,(2)potential AI-based methods with significant advantages,and(3)supplementary methods for AI-based DED *** study proposes suggested DED detection standards,the combination of multiple diagnostic evidence,and future research directions to guide further ***,the research contributes to the advancement of ophthalmic disease detection by providing insights into knowledge foundations,advanced methods,challenges,and potential future perspectives,emphasizing the significant role of AI in both academic and practical aspects of ophthalmology.

Aberrantly expressed GFRα-1/RET in patients with lacrimal adenoid cystic carcinoma is associated with high recurrence risk:a retrospective study of 51 LACC cases

Objective:Because of the poor prognosis of lacrimal adenoid cystic carcinoma(LACC),we aimed to investigate the effects of perineural invasion(PNI)and consequent aberrations in GDNF/GFRα-1/RET protein expression on LACC ***:Clinicopathological data for 51 histologically confirmed patients with LACC enrolled between 2001 and 2017 were retrospectively *** and eosin staining was applied to assess ***-based immunohistochemistry(IHC)detection of GDNF,GFRα-1,and RET proteins was performed on LACC formalin-fixed,paraffin-embedded *** generated semi-quantitative data of the IHC results and compared them with the clinicopathological data for the 51 ***:Of the 51 patients,19(37.3%)were PNI *** was more common for LACC with than without PNI(73.7%vs.37.5%,P=0.01).GDNF,GFRα-1,and RET proteins were expressed in 62.7%,62.7%,and 54.9%of the 51 patients with LACC,*** expression of all 3 proteins was more common in patients with than without *** agreement with previous findings,PNI-associated GFRα-1 and RET positivity,as detected by IHC,remained significantly associated with recurrence,whereas GDNF expression,as detected by IHC,was not correlated with LACC ***,patients with concurrent GFRα-1 and RET expression may have a high risk of PNI(89.5%positivity rate)and recurrence(84.2%positivity rate).Conclusions:PNI may contribute to LACC *** concurrent expression of GFRα-1 and RET proteins,as detected by IHC,may potentially be associated with LACC PNI and recurrence.

Gement improved highly weathered phyllite for highway subgrades:A case study in Shaanxi province

In a cost-saving move, the soft rocks composed of highly-weathered phyllites available on- site were used to fill the subgrade in the eastern Ankang section of the expressway of Shiyan to Tianshui, China. Cement admixture was used to improve the performance of the weathered phyllites. In order to determine the best mix ratio, values corresponding to compaction performance, unconfined compressive strength, and the California bearing ratio （CBR） were analyzed for variable cement content weight percentages （3%, 4%, 5%, and 6%） using test subgrade plots in the field. Field measurements of resilience modulus and deflection confirmed that the strength of the subgrade increased as the cement ratio increased. In order to further evaluate the cement/phyllite mixture, the performance of the 3% cement ratio sample was evaluated under saturated conditions （with various levels of moisture addition and soaking time） using both the wetting deformation and resilient modulus values. Results suggest that moisture added and soaking time are key factors that affect the seepage depth, water content, and resilient modulus. The recommend values for the cement addition and for the water content are given out. This study can aid in pre- vention of highway damage by improving the foundation capacity and lengthening the lifecycle of the highway in phyllite distributed region at home and abroad.

As the world’s top two economies,the United States(U.S.)and China face a number of similar water resources ***,few studies have been done to systematically compare policies and approaches on water resources management between China and the *** study compares water resources policies of China and the *** the areas of national authority,water supply,water quality,and ecosystem use of the water to draw lessons learned and shed light on water resources management in China,the U.S.,and the rest of the *** lessons learned from the comparison include six aspects.1)New paradigms of people-water harmony and a water-saving society are urgently needed to address the pressing water crisis and achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals(UN SDGs).2)A comprehensive,consistent,forward-looking national policy is necessary to achieve sustainable use of water resources.3)Empowerment of river basin commissions with comprehensive authority over the integrative management of air,land,water,and biological resources in the river basin could significantly enhance the benefits and effectiveness of economic development and environmental protection.4)Expansion of water exchange through market mechanisms among water users promotes efficient and beneficial water uses.5)Use of water for ecosystem services should be an integral part of water resources *** has set up a national blueprint for achieving ecological civilization;maintaining appropriate amounts of flow in rivers and lakes for maintenance of wildlife and fisheries and ecosystems should be institutionalized as part of this national strategy as well.6)By sharing their rich experiences and lessons in water resources management,economic development,and ecological protection with other countries,China and the *** help the world to achieve global human-water harmony and the UN SDGs.

Impact of grazing on germination trait selection in an alpine grassland on the Tibet Plateau

Previous studies indicated that grazing can cause significant changes in abiotic and biotic environment in ***,how these changes impact germination trait selection in grassland has not been well ***,we aimed to explore whether grazing can significantly change germination trait diversity and composition of grasslands *** measured the germination traits of species in the laboratory,and compared their performance in grazed and nongrazed ***,we compared the community-weighted means of germination traits and functional diversity of grazed and nongrazed grasslands based on these germination traits to know whether grazed and nongrazed grasslands differed in their germination trait *** the species level,we found that the changes of abundance in grazed and nongrazed grasslands were not related to species’germination ***,at the community level,compared with nongrazed grasslands,species in the grazed grasslands generally exhibited a higher seed germination ***,seed germination response in grazed grasslands was more positively related to alternating temperature than in nongrazed grasslands,and breadth of the germination temperature niche was narrower in grazed than in nongrazed *** with nongrazed grasslands,seed germination trait diversity was increased and germination trait evenness decreased in grazed *** can change microhabitat conditions,thereby changing germination trait selection by environmental filtering,resulting in a significant difference in germinate trait composition at the community level.

Escherichia coli challenge and one type of smectite alter intestinal barrier of pigs

An experiment was conducted to determine how an E. coil challenge and dietary clays affect the intestinal barrier of pigs. Two groups of 32 pigs （initial BW： 6.9 ± 1.0 kg） were distributed in a 2 x 4 factorial arrangement of a randomized complete block design （2 challenge treatments： sham or E. coil, and 4 dietary treatments： control, 0.3% smectite A, 0.3% smectite B and 0.3% zeolite）, with 8 replicates total. Diarrhea score, growth performance, goblet cell size and number, bacterial translocation from intestinal lumen to lymph nodes, intestinal morphology, and relative amounts of sulfo and sialo mucins were measured. The E. coli challenge reduced performance, increased goblet cell size and number in the ileum, increased bacterial translocation from the intestinal lumen to the lymph nodes, and increased ileal crypt depth. One of the clays （smectite A） tended to increase goblet cell size in ileum, which may indicate enhanced protection. In conclusion, E. coli infection degrades intestinal barrier integrity but smectite A may enhance it.

高质量发展是全面建设社会主义现代化国家的首要任务,先进制造业是驱动高质量发展的主力军。在此背景下,归纳中国化时代化的企业家精神、工匠精神的新内涵。从两种精神出发,重视人作为企业高质量发展主体的作用,结合场动力理论和心理契约理论,引入组织创新氛围和心理契约作为中介变量,构建先进制造业企业高质量发展影响机制模型。基于412份有效数据的实证分析表明:①企业家精神、工匠精神正向影响先进制造业企业高质量发展;②组织创新氛围和心理契约对先进制造业企业高质量发展具有积极影响;③组织创新氛围和心理契约在企业家精神、工匠精神与先进制造业企业高质量发展间发挥中介作用。研究结论可从微观层面丰富高质量发展内涵,并为先进制造业企业实现高质量发展提供参考。

Long-Term and Immediate Impacts of Health Emergency and Disaster Risk Management(Health-EDRM) Education Interventions in a Rural Chinese Earthquake-Prone Transitional Village

Ma'an Qiao Village, a Dai and Yi ethnic minority-based community in Sichuan Province, China sustained complete infrastructure devastation during the 2008 Panzhihua earthquake. Health emergency and disaster risk management(Health-EDRM) education intervention programs were implemented in 2010 and 2011. This serial cross-sectional survey study aimed to examine the immediate and long-term impacts of the Health-EDRM interventions in this remote rural community. The findings demonstrate knowledge improvement in areas of water and sanitation, food and nutrition, and disaster preparedness immediately after the Health-EDRM education interventions. Temporal stability of knowledge retention was observed in household hygiene and waste management and smoking beliefs in 2018, 7 years after the *** important findings include knowledge uptake pattern differences of oral rehydration solution(ORS) between earthquake-prone and flood-prone communities. Usage of Internet and mobile technology for accessing disaster-related information was found to be independent of gender and income. Overall, this study demonstrated the knowledge improvement through Health-EDRM education interventions in a remote rural community. Promoting behavioral changes through interventions to raise awareness has the potential to reduce health risks in transitional post-disaster settings. Future programs should aim to identify evidence-based practices and explore how technology can support Health-EDRM education among vulnerable subgroups.
