Trace elements, isotopic modeling and U-Th-Pb SHRIMP zircon age constraints are used to reconstruct the eruption history and magmatic processes of the Piedra Parada Caldera. In the early Eocene, the crystal-poor Barda Colorada ignimbrite(BCI), having >>15% micro-porphyritic crystals with respect to magmatic components, erupted a volume estimated in more than 300 km^3. The Piedra Parada caldera is located in the Patagonian Andes foreland, at the southern end of the calderas field of the Pilcaniyeu Volcanic Belt(PVB). This belt is related to an extensional tectonic setting as a result of the collision of the Farallon-Aluk ridge with South America, which enabled the development of a transform ocean/continental plate margin followed by the detachment of the Aluk plate and the opening of a slab window. The BCI extra-caldera Plateau is a >100 m thick deposit, having a lower unit with high silica(Si O_2> 76 wt.%),potassium poor rhyolitic composition(trondhjemitic like magma), and an upper unit with normal to high potassium rhyolitic composition(granitic like magma). A trace elements modeling of the BCI units shows that the BCI lower and upper units did not evolve from fractionation or immiscibility in the shallow magma reservoir. The BCI also have a primitive isotopic signature(initial87 Sr/86 Sr =0.7031-0.7049 and ε_(Nd)= +3.4 to +3.65). Thus, tectonic, compositional and isotopic constraints suggest the fast ascent of high silica magmas to a shallow reservoir, and point to an upper mantle origin for these rhyolitic magmas in a transitional(Orogenic-Anorogenic) tectono-magmatic setting. U-Th-Pb SHRIMP zircon crystallization ages of the Syn-caldera stage BCI units(56 -51.5 Ma) show a protracted life of 5 Ma for this caldera reservoir. The age of 52.9 ± 0.3 Ma is considered the best fit for the possible maximum age for the caldera collapse. Marfan’s syndrome (MFS) is an autosomal dominant disorder characterized by aortic root dilation, mitral valve prolapse and aortic regurgitation. The typical aneurysm location involves the thoracic aorta (60%). Thoracoabdominal aortic dissections are quite infrequent (10%). A type A aortic dissection can have fatal complications, such as aortic rupture and cardiac tamponade, and a prompt diagnosis is crucial. The present case involves a 46-year-old patient with Marfan’s syndrome who was admitted to the emergency department for dyspnea. The patient presented congestive signs and manifestations suggesting acute heart failure. An initial transthoracic echocardiogram (TTE) showed ventricular hypertrophy and diastolic dysfunction. Additionally, TTE showed plurivalvular regurgitation, pulmonary hypertension (42 mmHg), aortic dilatation, and a dissection flap. Coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) was performed, confirming the suspicion of ascending aortic dissection. The patient underwent a three-stage intervention for the repair of all the defects, with adequate recovery. This was a rare presentation of aortic dissection in MFS, which was a diagnostic challenge for the heart team.

In the last decade,attention has become greater to the relationship between neurodegeneration and abnormal insulin signaling in the central nervous system,as insulin in the brain is implicated in neuronal survival,plasticity,oxidative stress and *** mellitus and Parkinson’s disease are both aging-associated diseases that are turning into epidemics *** mellitus and insulin resistance not only increase the possibility of developing Parkinson’s disease but can also determine the prognosis and progression of Parkinsonian ***,there are no available curative or disease modifying treatments for Parkinson’s disease,but the role of insulin and antidiabetic medications in neurodegeneration opens a door to treatment repurposing to fight against Parkinson’s disease,both in diabetic and nondiabetic Parkinsonian ***,it is essential to comprehend how a frequent and treatable disease such as diabetes can influence the progression of neurodegeneration in a challenging disease such as Parkinson’s ***,we review the present evidence on the connection between Parkinson’s disease and diabetes and the consequential implications of the existing antidiabetic molecules in the severity and development of Parkinsonism,with a particular focus on glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists.

Type 2 diabetes （T2D） is an important risk factor for developing dementias, including Alzheimer＇s disease （AD）. Hyperinsulin- emia and glucose intolerance, as features of T2D, might increase the neurodegeneration process, synaptic loss and brain atrophy, leading to cognitive impairment observed in AD. Also, adult neurogenesis seems to be impaired in AD models. Therefore, we have studied morphological alterations, cell proliferation and neurogenesis in the central nervous system （CNS） from a classical model of T2D, the db/db mouse, and in a prediabetes insulin-resistant model, obtained after long-term high fat diet （HFD） administration to C57B1/6 mice. Db/db mice showed an age-dependent cortical and hippocampal atrophy, whereas in HFD mice cortex and hippocampus were preserved. Neurogen- esis and cell proliferation were increased in young db/db mice, when compared with control mice, whereas no differences were detected in the prediabetic model. We also detected significant correlations between metabolic parameters and central atrophy, altered proliferation and neurogenesis in the central nervous system. Altogether these data support that glycaemia control in elderly patients, could help to control central alterations and improve dementia prognosis.

Aim： To determine the effect of two different extracts of red maca in male rats. Methods： Prostatic hyperplasia was induced in male rats with testosterone enanthate （TE）. The study comprised six groups： one control group （group 1）, one group treated with TE （group 2）, two groups treated with TE and aqueous extract of red maca （groups 3 and 4）, one group treated with hydroalcoholic extract of red maca （group 5） and one group treated with finasteride （0.1 mg, group 6）. Differences in the aqueous extract dependent on the length of time of boiling, whether for 2 or 3 hours, for groups 3 and 4 was assessed. Extracts of red maca contained 0.1 mg of benzylglucosinolate. Thereafter, a doseresponse effect of different doses of benzylglucosinolates （0.02-0.08 mg） in red maca extracts was assessed. Results： Prostate weight was similar in rats treated with freeze-dried aqueous extract of red maca prepared after 2 and 3 hours of boiling. Freeze-dried aqueous extract of red maca, hydroalcoholic extract of red maca and finasteride reduced prostate weight in rats with prostatic hyperplasia. No difference was observed between the data obtained from aqueous extract or hydroalcoholic extract of red maca. A dose dependent reduction of prostate weight was observed with the increase of the dose of benzylglucosinolates in red maca extracts. Conclusion： The present study showed that hydroalcoholic or aqueous extract of red maca containing 0.1 mg of benzylglucosinolate can reduce prostate size in male rats in which prostatic hyperplasia had been induced by TE.
