An Approach for Micropropagation of Blueberry (<i>Vaccinium corymbosum</i>L.) Plants Mediated by Temporary Immersion Bioreactors (TIBs)

A new procedure for blueberry (Vaccinium corymbosum L.) micropropagation in programmed Temporary Immersion Bioreactors (TIBs based on two separate bottles) was developed for the commercial genotypes Biloxi, Sharp Blue and Brillita. Plant cultures were developed in a controlled environment with 0.4 MPa CO2 enrichment, sucrose-reduced medium, and light intensity of 60 mM m-2·s-1. Principal component analysis showed that component 1 (C1) grouped 64.08% of the total variability, while the first two components accounted for 86.97%. Representation of the principal components demonstrated three clusters corresponding with the blueberry genotypes, and within each cluster plants micropropagated in agar-base medium grouped separately from those plants multiplied in TIBs. Both plant number and total internodes traits (related to the productive efficiency) were demonstrated superior in blueberries propagated in TIBs. Additionally, when transferred to greenhouse conditions, blueberries propagated in TIBs showed higher adaptability and growing rates than those cultured by the conventional approach, altogether evidencing the occurrence of a photomixotrophic stage in the vitroplantlets cultured in TIBs.

Purpose: The aim of this scientific contribution is to show the potential that integral calculus has offered to the analysis of thermodynamic processes. Method: Application of Integral Calculus. In this context, the document covers the theoretical principles of integral calculus, such as Theoretical framework and background, Geometric interpretation of the primitive, Primitive existence theorem. Results: Integral calculus and generalized thermodynamic models, and their applications in various thermodynamic analysis contacts such as the Generalized Enthalpy Model, the Generalized Entropy Model, and the Generalized Model applied to gas mixtures and the General Model to elaborate the properties table. Conclusion: The mathematical analysis developed in this document is very useful in engineering and applied physics environments, a fact that supports its common pedagogical practice in university institutions.

Recent results in the development of diode-driven high energy, high repetition rate, picosecond lasers, including the demonstration of a cryogenic Yb:YAG active mirror amplifier that produces 1.5 J pulses at 500 Hz repetition rate(0.75 kW average power) are reviewed. These pulses are compressed resulting in the generation of ~5 ps duration,1 J pulses with 0.5 kW average power. A full characterization of this high power cryogenic amplifier, including atwavelength interferometry of the active region under >1 kW average power pump conditions, is presented. An initial demonstration of operation at 1 kW average power(1 J, 1 k Hz) is reported.

Background: Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) and chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) are serious diseases with similar pathophysiologic aspects. The prognosis of patients with these conditions is highly uncertain, particularly incident cases. Methods: A Cox proportional hazards model was applied to a group of 85 patients (81% women, mean age 52 (18 - 82) years) with PAH (80%) and non-surgical CTEPH (20%) to evaluate risk factors for mortality. The following variables were included in the model: age, etiology, baseline 6-minute walk test (6 mWT), cardiac index, and improvement in the 6 mWT following initiation of first medical treatment. Results: In the multivariate analysis, the response to treatment, assessed by an improvement on the 6 mWT, was the most relevant prognostic factor in these patients (RR, 4.832 (95% CI, 1.888 - 12.364);p = 0.001). The remaining variables studied in this model had less influence on the prognosis: age > 50 years (RR, 0.744 (95% CI, 0.26 - 2.133);p = 0.582);etiology of connective tissue disease-associated PAH (RR, 3.145 (95% CI, 0.995-9.946);p = 0.051) or CTEPH (RR, 0.654 (95% CI, 0.179 - 2.387);p = 0.521) with respect to idiopathic PAH;baseline 6 mWT (RR, 1.173 (95% CI, 0.599 - 4.895);p = 0.315);or cardiac index (RR, 2.295 (95% CI, 0.793 - 6.642);p = 0.125). Conclusions: There is a high degree of uncer-tainty regarding the prognosis of PAH and CTEPH at the start of appropriate treatment. Our results support the idea that the initial treatment response is of paramount importance as prognostic factor in these patients.

Aims: The present study aims to compare the assessment of work ability based on the use of the Work Ability Index (WAI) with another questionnaire base only on the use of WAI’s first item, termed as the “Work Ability Score” (WAS). Study design: A cohort of 384 Spanish workers included in a Post COVID-19 condition or persistent COVID-19 multicenter research was utilized. Place and Duration of Study: This cohort was enlisted in four hospitals (Hospital Universitario 12 de Octubre, Madrid;Hospital Universitario Virgen Macarena, Sevilla, Andalucía;Hospital Universitario Gregorio Marañón, Madrid and Complejo Asistencial Universitario de Salamanca, Castilla y León), since 2021 until 2022. Methodology: 384 Spanish workers (176 men and 208 women;aged 20 to 70 years) with Post COVID-19 condition or persistent COVID-19 were included. Descriptive analysis of primary scores was conducted. Given the non-normal distribution of data, the Mann-Whitney and Kruskal-Wallis tests were employed. Spearman and Kendall correlations were employed to assess the relationship between WAI and WAS, also used weighted Kappa to estimate the degree agreement between WAI and WAS. Logistic regression models were utilized to study determinants influencing WAI and WAS, categorized as poor or moderate. Results: WAI had an average score of 32.98 (SD = 10.28), whereas WAS had an average of 5.95 (SD = 2.77). Significant differences were observed in both WAI and WAS across the same variables. Strong and statistically significant correlations were evident between WAI and WAS (rs = 0.83, p < 0.001). All the variables used in the logistic regression model (gender, the sector employment, and previous chronic diseases) were statistically significant in both questionnaires. Conclusion: WAS questionnaire could be used as a tool for reliable assessment of work ability among Spanish workers with Post COVID-19 condition or Persistent CO-VID-19.

The southern region of the state of Chihuahua is mining by origin, as this has been proved ghost towns of Minas Nuevas, it is also called Villa Escobedo, Emerald and Blue. Minerals are nonrenewable resources. There are only reserves and waste deposited in tailings ponds of low-rade precious metals （gold and silver）. A conventional method for recovering gold and silver ore is low-grade cyanidation and the solvent consider toxic and highly dangerous for the flora, fauna, humans and the environment. The mechanism of cyanide poisoning is inhibition of cytochrome oxidase--an enzyme needed for cell respiration. Without compromising efficiency, sensitivity and cost of the process, the toxic solvent is replaced by a less aggressive one, which helps the environment, public and occupational health. （NH4）2S203 has no appreciable damage to conservative amounts, is a selective aqueous solvent for leaching gold and silver, easy to get and manipulate. This work is done in the Technological Institute of Parral in a low-grade ore from the southern region of the state of Chihuahua. This document has been enriched presented in the IMEC 2014, with the increase of series Ⅴ and Ⅵ.
