Water properties are dominated by the hydrogen bond interaction that gives rise in the stable liquid phase to the formation of a dynamical *** latter drives the water thermodynamics and is at the origin of its well known *** HB structural geometry and its changes remain uncertain and still are challenging research subjects.A key question is the role and effects of the HB tetrahedral structure on the local arrangement of neighboring molecules in *** the hydrogen dynamics in bulk water is studied through the combined use of Neutron Compton Scattering and NMR *** are discussed in the framework of previous studies performed in a wide temperature range,in the liquid,solid,and amorphous *** the first time this combined studies provide an experimental evidence of the onset of the water tetrahedral network at T^315 K,originally proposed in previous studies of transport coefficients and thermodynamical data;below this temperature the local order in water changes and the lifetime of local hydrogen bond network becomes long enough to gradually develop the characteristic tetrahedral network of water.

＜正＞synuclein（-syn） plays a prominent role in the degenerationof midbraindopaminergic（mDA） neurons in Parkinson disease （PD）.However,only a few studies on -*** carried out in the mDA neurons in vivo,which may be attributed to a lack of -sytransgenic mice that develop PD-like severe degeneration of mDA *** gain mechanistic insights into the -syn-induced mDAneurodegeneration,we generated a new line of tetracycline-regulated inducible transgenic mice that overexpressed the PD-related -synA53T missense mutation in the mDA *** we show that the mutant mice developed profound motor disabilities and robustmDAneurodegeneration,resembling some key motor and pathological phenotypes of *** further systematically examined the subcellular abnormalities appeared in the mDA neurons of mutant mice,and observed aprofound decrease of dopamine degradation pathways in these *** further understand the specific molecular eventsleading to the a-syn-dependent degeneration of mDA neurons,we found that over-expression ofa-synpromoted a proteasome-dependent degradation of nuclear receptor related 1 protein（Nurrl）;while inhibition of Nurrl degradation ameliorated the -syn-induced loss of mDA *** that Nurrl plays an essential role in maintaining the normal function and survival of mDA neurons,our studies suggest that the -syn-mediated suppression of Nurrl protein expression may contribute to the preferential vulnerability of mDA neurons in the pathogenesis of PD.

We study the evolution of the Boson peak for water confined in cement paste obtained by means of Inelastic Neutron Scattering from room temperature to the deep supercooled *** analyze the data in terms of a universal-like model,developed for glass forming liquids in the frame of the energy *** such a way it is possible to discriminate between the fragile and strong glass forming character of supercooled liquids and the dynamical crossover,fragile to strong,between ***,we confirm the link between the Boson peak and the water *** particular,the main result is represented by a crossover from a local energetic minima configuration to that characteristic of saddle points on going towards the deep supercooled regime up to the dynamical arrest.

We study the thermal behavior of the longitudinal spin-lattice,T1,and the transverse spin-spin,T2,relaxation times of the macroscopic magnetization in water/methanol *** aim is to investigate the reciprocal influence of hydrophobic effects on water properties and of hydrophilicity(via hydrogen bond,HB,interactions)on the *** classical Nuclear Magnetic Resonance spectroscopy,we find a single characteristic correlation time r c that reflects all local structural configurations and characterizes the thermal motion effects of the magnetic nuclei on the spin-spin *** find that in the supercooled regime the correlations are stronger,with respect to ambient temperature,because the HB interactions have a lifetime long enough to sustain a stable water ***,increasing the temperature,progressively decreases the HB interaction lifetime and destroys the water clusters with a consequent decoupling in the dynamic modes of the *** addition,at temperatures higher than about 265 K,the hydrophobicity becomes gradually stronger and governs the physical properties of the solutions.

Endoscopic stenting has become a widely method for the management of various malignant and benign pancreatico-biliary disorders. Biliary and pancreatic stents are devices made of plastic or metal used primarily to establish patency of an obstructed bile or pancreatic duct and may also be used to treat biliary or pancreatic leaks,pancreatic fluid collections and to prevent post-endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography pancreatitis. In this review,relevant literature search and expert opinions have been used to evaluate the outcome of stenting in biliary and pancreatic benign and malignant diseases.

Effects of L-carnitine in patients with hepatic encephalopathy

AIM: To evaluate the influence of L-carnitine on mental conditions and ammonia effects on patients with hepatic encephalopathy (HE).METHODS: One hundred and fifty patients (10 patients with alcoholism, 41 patients with hepatitis virus B infection, 78 patients with hepatitis C virus infection,21 patients with cryptogenetic cirrhosis) meeting the inclusion criteria were randomized into group A receiving a 90-d treatment with L-carnitine (2 g twice a day) or into group B receiving placebo in double ***: At the end of the study period, a significant decrease in NH4 fasting serum levels was found in patients with hepatic encephalopathy (P＜0.05) afler the treatment with levocarnitine (LC). Significant differences were also found between symbol digit modalities test and block design in patients with hepatic encephalopathy (P＜0.05).CONCLUSION: Results of our study suggest an important protective effect of L-carnitine against ammonia-precipitated encephalopathy in cirrhotic patients.

Azithromycin(AZM),the most commonly prescribed antibiotic in the United States,is thought to have no activity against multidrugresistant Gram-negative pathogens such as Achromobacter xylosoxidans(AX)per standard minimum inhibitory concentration testing in cation-adjusted Mueller Hinton *** we provide the first report of AZM bactericidal activity against carbapenemresistant isolates of AX,with a multifold decrease in minimum inhibitory concentration across 12 clinical isolates when examined under physiologic testing conditions that better recapitulate the in vivo human *** pharmaceutical activity,evident in eukaryotic tissue culture media,is associated with enhanced AZM intracellular penetration and synergistic killing with human whole blood,serum,and ***,AZM monotherapy inhibited preformed AX biofilm growth in a dose-dependent manner together with a reduction in viable *** an illustrative case,AZM in combination with piperacillin-tazobactam exerted clear therapeutic effects in a patient with carbapenem-resistant AX mediastinitis,sternal osteomyelitis,and aortic graft *** study reinforces how current antimicrobial testing practices fail to recapitulate the host environment or host-pathogen interactions and may misleadingly declare complete resistance to useful agents,adversely affecting patient *** conclude that AZM merits further exploration in the treatment of drug-resistant AX *** approaches to antimicrobial susceptibility testing that better recapitulate the host environment should be considered,especially as infections caused by multidrug-resistant Gram-negative bacterial pathogens are expanding globally with high morbidity and mortality.
