BACKGROUND The ExeterTM Universal cemented femoral component is widely used for total hip replacement *** there have been few reports of femoral component fracture,removal of a broken femoral stem can be a challenging *** SUMMARY A 54-year-old man with a Dorr A femur sustained a refracture of a primary ExeterTM stem,two years after receiving a revision using a cement-within-cement technique(CWC)through an extended trochanteric osteotomy(ETO).The technical problems related to the CWC technique and the ETO played a major role in the stem fatigue *** performed revision surgery and removed the distal cement using a cortical femoral window technique,followed by reimplantation with an uncemented,modular,distally-fixed uncemented *** patient experienced an uneventful postoperative *** Re-fracture of a modern femoral ExeterTM stem is a rare event,but technical complications related to revision surgery can lead to this *** cortical window osteotomy technique can facilitate the removal of a broken stem and cement,allowing for prosthetic reimplantation under direct vision and avoiding ETO-related complications.

This paper brings the comparison of performances of CO_(2)conversion by plasma and plasma-assisted catalysis based on the data collected from literature in this field,organised in an open access online *** tool is open to all users to carry out their own analyses,but also to contributors who wish to add their data to the database in order to improve the relevance of the comparisons made,and ultimately to improve the efficiency of CO_(2)conversion by *** creation of this database and database user interface is motivated by the fact that plasma-catalysis is a fast-growing field for all CO_(2)conversion processes,be it methanation,dry reforming of methane,methanolisation,or *** a result of this rapid increase,there is a need for a set of standard procedures to rigorously compare performances of different ***,this is currently not possible because the fundamental mechanisms of plasma-catalysis are still too poorly understood to define these standard *** however,the accumulated data within the CO_(2)plasma-catalysis community has become large enough to warrant so-called“big data”studies more familiar in the fields of medicine and the social *** enable comparisons between multiple data sets and make future research more effective,this work proposes the first database on CO_(2)conversion performances by plasma-catalysis open to the whole *** database has been initiated in the framework of a H_(2)0_(2)0 European project and is called the“PIONEER Data Base”.The database gathers a large amount of CO_(2)conversion performance data such as conversion rate,energy efficiency,and selectivity for numerous plasma sources coupled with or without a *** data set is associated with metadata describing the gas mixture,the plasma source,the nature of the catalyst,and the form of coupling with the *** the database itself,a data extraction tool with direct visualisation features or advance

Background Little information exists about the role of anemia in patients with acute coronary syndromes(ACS)admitted to Intensive Cardiac Care Units(ICCU).The aim of this study was to assess the prevalence of anemia and its impact on management and outcomes in this clinical *** All consecutive patients admitted to eight different ICCUs with diagnosis of non-ST segment elevation ACS(NSTEACS)were prospectively *** was defined as hemoglobin<130 g/L in men and<120 g/L in *** association between anemia and mortality or readmission at six months was assessed by the Cox regression *** A total of 629 patients were *** age was 66.6 years.A total of 197 patients(31.3%)had *** angiography was performed in most patients(96.2%).Patients with anemia were significantly older,with a higher prevalence of comorbidities,poorer left ventricle ejection fraction and higher GRACE score *** with anemia underwent less often coronary angiography,but underwent more often intraaortic counterpulsation,non-invasive mechanical ventilation and renal replacement *** ICCU and hospital stay were significantly longer in patients with *** the incidence of mortality(HR=3.36,95%CI:1.43–7.85,P=0.001)and the incidence of mortality/readmission were significantly higher in patients with anemia(HR=2.80,95%CI:2.03–3.86,P=0.001).After adjusting for confounders,the association between anemia and mortality/readmission remained significant(P=0.031).Conclusions Almost one of three NSTEACS patients admitted to ICCU had *** patients underwent coronary *** was independently associated to poorer outcomes at 6 months.

Evaluation of the Nutritional Supplement VIUSID Vet Powder on the Productive Behaviour of Sows and Boars

The objective of this research was to evaluate the effect of administering VIUSID vet powder on the productive behaviour of sows and the quality of semen of boars. Two experiments were conducted on farms in the province of Sancti Spiritus, in the central region of Cuba. One was with sows, starting 21 days before parturition until weaning, and another was with boars in directed mounting. Each sow received 10 grams of VIUSID vet powder everyday, mixed with food, from 21 days before the probable date of farrowing and until weaning （33-day lactation period）. In the boars, the treatment consisted of administering 10 grams of VIUSID vet powder with feed, once a day for 6 weeks （week 1 to 6）; from week 7 onwards, the supplement was suspended. Results showed that, supplying VIUSID vet powder significantly improved the principal post-partum productivity indicators and significantly reduced diarrhoea and administration to boars in production for 6 weeks, which has improved spermatic motility and does not affect the other variables representative of the quality of the semen.

A Novel Process Using Ion Exchange Resins for the Coproduction of Ethyl and Butyl Acetates

Before proposing an innovative process for the coproduction of ethyl and butyl acetates, the individual syntheses of ethyl acetate and butyl acetate by two different routes were first studied. These syntheses involved the reaction of ethanol or n-butanol with acetic acid or acetic anhydride in the presence of ion exchange resins: Amberlyst 15, Amberlyst 16, Amberlyst 36 and Dowex 50WX8. Kinetic and thermodynamic studies were performed with all resins. The lowest activation energy (Ea) value was obtained with Dowex 50WX8, which was identified as the best-performing resin, able to be reused at least in four runs without regeneration. The presence of water-azeotropes during the synthesis of ethyl acetate makes its purification difficult. A new strategy was adopted here, involving the use of ethanol and acetic anhydride as the starting material. In order to minimize acetic acid as co-product of this reaction, a novel two-step process for the coproduction of ethyl and butyl acetates was developed. The first step involves the production of ethyl acetate and its purification. Butyl acetate was produced in the second step: n-butanol was added to the mixture of acetic acid and the resin remaining after the first-step distillation. This process yields ethyl acetate and butyl acetate at high purity and shows an environmental benefit over the independent syntheses by green metrics calculation and life cycle assessment.

Hyperlactatemia in patients with non-acetaminophen-related acute liver failure

AIM： To characterize hyperlactatemia in patients with non-acetaminophen acute liver failure （ALF） in an attempt to clarify the mechanisms implicated and the role as a prognosis factor. METHODS： In the setting of liver transplantation, 63 consecutive patients with non-acetaminophen acute liver failure were studied in relation to tissue oxygenation, hemodynamic and metabolic parameters. Before and after transplantation, the number of infected patients and outcome were registered. RESULTS： Acute ALF showed higher levels of lactate than subacute ALF （5.4 ± 1 mmol/L versus 2.2 ± 0.6 mmol/L, P= 0.01）. Oxygenation parameters were within the normal range. Lactate levels showed good correlation with respiratory quotient （r=0.759, P〈 0.005）, mean glucose administration （r= 0.664, P= 0.01） and encephalopathy （r= 0.698, P= 0.02）, but not with splanchnic arteriovenous difference in PCO2, pH and the presence of infection （P=0.1）. Portal vein lactate was higher （P〈0.05） than arterial and mixed venous lactate, suggesting its production of hyperlactatemia in the intestine and spleen. The presence of infection was an independent predictor of survival. CONCLUSION： Hyperlactatemia is not a prognosis factor due to byproduct of the overall acceleration in glycolysis.

Morphometric comparison by the ISAS CASA-DNAf system of two techniques for the evaluation of DNA fragmentation in human spermatozoa

DNA fragmentation has been shown to be one of the causes of male infertility, particularly related to repeated abortions, and different methods have been developed to analyze it. In the present study, two commercial kits based on the SCD technique （Halosperm~ and SDFA） were evaluated by the use of the DNA fragmentation module of the ISAS vl CASA system. Seven semen samples from volunteers were analyzed. To compare the results between techniques, the Kruskal-Wallis test was used. Data were used for calculation of Principal Components （two PCs were obtained）, and subsequent subpopulations were identified using the Halo, Halo/Core Ratio, and PC data. Results from both kits were significantly different （P 〈 0.001）. In each case, four subpopulations were obtained, independently of the classification method used. The distribution of subpopulations differed depending on the kit used. From the PC data, a discriminant analysis matrix was obtained and a good a posterioriclassification was obtained （97.1% for Halosperm and 96.6% for SDFA）. The present results are the first approach on morphometric evaluation of DNA fragmentation from the SCD technique. This approach could be used for the future definition of a classification matrix surpassing the current subjective evaluation of this important sperm factor.

表面处理在合金制备过程中应用广泛,其中通过调控表面析出行为来改变表面性质是一种简单易操作的合金表面处理方式。然而目前合金表面析出形核及长大的影响因素不明,制约了析出行为调控的有效实现。本文基于Al-Si合金体系,分别通过改变表面粗糙度及表面应力状态的处理方式,以及分步退火工艺及直接退火工艺的热处理方法,系统性地研究了不同表面状态及不同热处理工艺对表面析出热动力学的影响规律及机制。实验结果表明,直接退火工艺下,表面析出相沿平行于表面方向及垂直表面方向的析出行为与表面粗糙度及应力状态的分布并无明显关联。而在分步退火工艺下,表面析出相表现出显著的沿划痕内部、压痕边部等大曲率表面特异性生长的趋势。对析出行为定量统计以及热动力学机制的分析指出,表面析出相的形核热力学并未受到表面曲率改变的显著影响,而其长大速率在大曲率表面处有较为明显的提高。此现象的发现与机制的阐释可为表面析出行为的定量调控提供指导。

In the present work it is studied the phosphorus-aluminum co-doping effect on the electronic and structural graphene properties using ab initio calculations in the framework of DFT （density functional theory）. The doping of graphene with substituent heteroatoms can modify the band structures as well as the electron transfer, improving the electronic performance that could enhance the sensing ability in gas sensor devices. The incorporation of heteroatoms in the graphene monolayer alters the unit cell. The alteration degree depends on the dopant concentration. Furthermore, the electronic properties were modified by opening the gap up to 0.61 eV produced by the combination of phosphorus and aluminum as dopants. The dopant concentration can be controlled, which causes different degrees of semiconductor behavior on the co-doped graphene.

Effect of the Nutritional Supplement VIUSlD Vet on the Productivity of Fattening Pigs in a Low-Input Farming System

The objective of the study was to evaluate the effect of the nutritional supplement VIUSID vet on the mortality and the productivity behaviour of fattening pigs in a low-input farming system. Two experiments were carried out at a pig farm in the municipality of Jatibonico, Sancti Spiritus province, Cuba. The farm has a low level of specialization, pigs are fed using local resources such as sugarcane （Saccharum officinarum） juice and locally produced concentrated feed. In both studies, the treatment consisted in administering together with the feed 2.0 g of VIUSID vet per Kg of feed. Results showed that in low-input rearing conditions, supplying VIUSID vet significantly reduced deaths （17.65%） in the pigs treated, favoured leukocyte and lymphocyte counts, and significantly improved weight gain （16.33%） and feed efficiency （14.41%）.
