Background:The mild cognitive impairment(MCI)stage among elderly individuals is very complex,and the level of diagnostic accu-racy is far from *** studies have tried to improve the’MCI due to Alzheimer’s disease(AD)’classification by further stratifying these patients into ***-related symptoms may play an important role in helping to better define the MCI stage in elderly ***:In this work,we explored functional and structural differences in the brains of patients with nondepressed MCI(nDMCI)and patients with MCI with depressive symptoms(DMCI),and we examined how these groups relate to AD atrophy patterns and cognitive ***:Sixty-five participants underwent MRI exams and were divided into four groups:cognitively normal,nDMCI,DMCI,and *** compared the regional brain volumes,cortical thickness,and white matter microstructure measures using diffusion tensor imaging among ***,we evaluated changes in functional connectivity using fMRI ***:In comparison to the nDMCI group,the DMCI patients had more pronounced atrophy in the hippocampus and ***,DMCI patients had asymmetric damage in the limbic-frontal white matter ***,two medial pos-terior regions,the isthmus of cingulate gyrus and especially the lingual gyrus,had high importance in the structural and functional differentiation between the two ***:It is possible to differentiate nDMCI from DMCI patients using MRI techniques,which may contribute to a better charac-terization of subtypes of the MCI stage.

The main goal of this article is to evaluate critically the urban protection bias in the legislative context of Rio de Janeiro,since the 1980s,when the redemocratization of the country took place,until the 2000s,marked by major sporting events and the distinction of a part of the city site as“cultural landscape of humanity”,granted by UNESCO(2012).During this period,new legal provisions for environmental protection appeared in Rio de Janeiro’s legislation,especially the instrument called the Cultural Environment Protection Area(APAC in Portuguese),which constituted a counterpoint to previous urban policies,characterized by urban plans that invariably proposed urban renewal,with a view to the adaptation of the city to the demands of the property and car industries *** aim here is to evaluate the use of the urban protection tool by the city hall and its distribution through the city site,identifying the different motivations that originated the urban protection initiatives,as well as respective political-administrative impacts.

The liver is a complex organ that performs several functions to maintain *** functions are modulated by calcium,a second messenger that regulates several intracellular *** hepatocytes and cholangiocytes,which are the epithelial cell types in the liver,inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate(InsP3)receptors(ITPR)are the only intracellular calcium release *** isoforms of the ITPR have been described,named type 1,type 2 and type *** ITPR isoforms are differentially expressed in liver cells where they regulate distinct physiological *** in the expression level of these receptors correlate with several liver diseases and hepatic *** this review,we highlight how the expression level,modulation,and localization of ITPR isoforms in hepatocytes and cholangiocytes play a role in hepatic homeostasis and liver pathology.

Despite the great potential of cellulose wood pulp and cellulose nanofibrils as reinforcing filler in thermoplastics,its use is limited due to its tendency to form agglomerates and due to its high hydrophilic *** we describe fiberboard composites with high contents of wood pulp or cellulose nanofibrils,and a resin of poly(styrene-methyl-methacrylate-acrylic acid)used as water-based *** wood pulp and cellulose nanofibrils were used directly in the form of water *** method is based on the flocculation of the polymer emulsion followed by agglomeration of a mixture of the polymer emulsion and cellulose suspension,leading to the co-precipitation of the composite material,which can be easily separated from the water *** with acrylic polymer/cellulose fibers in the proportions of 75:25,50:50 and 25:75 wt%were *** were characterized by scanning electron microscopy(SEM),Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR),thermogravimetric analysis(TGA),dynamic mechanical analysis(DMA)and water absorption *** analysis revealed a very good dispersion of the fibers without evidence of agglomeration,which led to superior mechanical *** results showed the effectiveness of the methodology and the potential of cellulose wood pulp and CNF as reinforcement fillers in fiberboard composites and any other high fiber-content materials.

The transition of vegetative meristems to a reproductive state followed by floral development and flowering is a complex process regulated by many regulatory pathways that integrate(epi)genetic and environmental factors to guarantee the reproductive success in *** woody and perennial species,such as coffee trees,the extended life cycle reflects adaptive strategies,i.e.,two-year cycle,sequential flowering and bud latency during the winter,that ensure reproductive success in a variable *** dynamics of coffee flowering integrate multiple stimuli to induce morpho-physiological changes,especially during the reproductive *** discussed diverse stimuli which are directly and indirectly associated with molecular pathways related to the reproductive meristem transition and floral development until ***,we propose to redefine some concepts regarding coffee floral development,such as:i)a summary of genes possibly involved in the flowering pathways;ii)a new classification of buds by position in the node(B1-B4)to avoid misunderstandings with the uneven developmental stages;iii)comparative ABC model to Arabidopsis and tomato to allow evolutionary discussions of whorls development in Coffea *** this,we expect to collaborate to drive future studies towards coffee breeding and production,for example,improving floral bud activation,controlling the flowering time,anthesis synchronization to produce more homogeneous ripening fruits,reducing abortion or early flower openings,and increasing ***,we think that the explored relationship between physiological and molecular approaches during the coffee flowering may be extended to understand other tropical perennial species,especially those with asynchronous flowering behavior,and to understand evolutive aspects in Rubiaceae.

Biochar has been proposed as a soil amendment to reclaim salt-affected ***,the evaluation of the different biochar types in these soils is essential due to the significant variation among biochar *** this study,biochars from sugarcane bagasse(SB),orange bagasse(OB),and corncob(CB)were applied alone and in the presence of gypsum(G)to test their potential to remediate a highly degraded saline-sodic soil in Brazil´s Northeast *** that,we conducted a laboratory column-leaching experiment and a greenhouse *** the column-leaching test,we analyzed the sodium adsorption ratio(SAR),the electrical conductivity of the saturation extract(ECe),the concentrations of major ions,and the exchangeable sodium percentage(ESP).Maize plants were grown in the leached soil in a ***-and corncob-derived biochars were more efficient than gypsum in reducing the soil salinity,bringing the indicators below threshold values,and optimizing soil reclamation *** ECe,SAR,and ESP were reduced to 3.42 dS m−1,1.64(mmolc dm−3)0.5 and 4.86%,respectively,in the SB treatment;and to 3.19 dS m−1,0.88(mmolc dm−3)0.5 and 2.53%,respectively,in the CB *** bagasse biochar did not effectively reduce the salinity *** biochar treatments improved seed germination and plant *** SB,CB,SBG,and CBG treatments increased plant height(478–558%),shoot mass(783–983%),and root mass(386–500%),***,the application of SB and CB is an effective alternative to remediate saline-sodic soils and to reduce the impact of soil salinity in the environment.

The aim of the current study was to determine the nature of the seasonal variability of the Suspended Particulate Matter(SPM) fluxes from the drainage basin to the estuary in a macrotidal region(Northeastern Brazil),and the estuarine response to a seawater intrusion regarding sediment deposition,which will support the understanding of the global transport of materials at the continent-ocean *** structure data was acquired using a Conductivity,Temperature,and Depth(CTD) probe with a sampling frequency of 4 *** particulate material was measured by gravimetric measurements applied to exact filtered volume *** outflows were measured through the use of an Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler(ADCP) with frequency of 1.5 *** horizontal thermal and saline gradients varied from warmer and less saline waters(2014) to cooler and saline waters(2015).The gradient behavior when linked to volume transport and SPM flows,suggests a minimization of the fluvial flows in 2015,easing the advance of coastal water(CW) towards the inner estuary,leading to an inversion of the baroclinic pressure *** bottom saline front,generated by the entrance of coastal water masses,caused an increase in SPM concentrations due to increased fluid density,resuspension of previously deposited sediment,and erosion of *** concentrations of SPM indicate higher volume transport suggesting a hydraulic barrier due to the change/inversion of the baroclinic pressure gradient,resulting in water and material *** deposition was observed during neap tide,while during spring tide the material is resuspended,increasing the concentration,generating cycles of deposition and erosion during the neap-spring *** sediment in suspension that reach the estuary,even with low fluvial volume,stay in this environment forming new islands because of *** deposition rates or sediment cycling,if generated by the hydraulic barrier,may indicate that the flo

Grain Yield and Protein Content of Brazilian Cowpea Genotypes under Diverse Ugandan Environments

Twenty nine cowpea genotypes, including four Ugandan genotypes, were evaluated for grain yield, protein stability and adaptability under diverse environments in a randomized complete block design with three replications. The analysis showed that cowpea grain yield and protein content were significantly (P < 0.01) affected by genotypes (G), environments (E), and interaction (G x E). Genotypes C2T and C2I had the highest grain yield and protein content respectively, but both were only adapted to specific environments. Genotypes C1J, C1V, C2A, C2O, and C2R were adapted to three environments with high yield which was stable. Similarly, genotypes BRS Pujante, C1J, C2Q and CIT also expressed high protein levels with high stability and wide adaptability. The study further revealed that Namulonge 2014B, Serere 2014A, Serere 2014B and Serere were the most favorable environments for obtaining high yield and protein respectively, because at these four environments, mean yield and protein were higher than the overall mean. All Brazilian genotypes had high protein levels compared to Ugandan genotypes indicating the potential of Brazilian genotypes in improving cowpea seed protein content in Uganda.
