Probiotics ha.e been used in huma.s for a.most a.century a.d a.e widely recommended beca.se they pla. a. importa.t role in ga.trointestina. physiologica. a.d pa.hophysiologica. processes. The a.m of this study wa. to eva.ua.e the effi- ca.y a.d sa.ety of a.probiotic mixture in hea.thy volunteers with eva.ua.ion disorders. We undertook a.prospective study with historica. control. We used the number of eva.ua.ions, effort a.d stool consistency 10 da.s before, 10 da.s during a.d 10 da.s a.ter trea.ment with the probiotic a. prima.y outcome mea.ures. Eligible pa.-ticipa.ts comprised 25 pa.ients with a. a.era.e a.e of 25.12 yea.s (ra.ge: 18 - 55) who suffered from eva.ua.ion disorders. BIO L6 is a.func- tiona. food consisting of a.probiotic prepa.a.ion tha. conta.ns 1 mg (108 CFUs) of lyophilized stra.ns of La.tic a.id Ba.teria.resuspended in 250 mL of drinking wa.er. The probiotic prepa.a.ion wa. prescribed da.ly for two weeks, five da.s a.week. a.significa.t increa.e in the number of eva.ua.ions wa. observed in 23 pa.ients during BIO L6 consump- tion a.d continued in 20 a.ter consumption. The degree of effort spent defeca.ing decrea.ed in 17 pa.ients during trea.- ment a.d in 7 a.ter trea.ment. a.significa.t improvement (P a. a.so observed in a.l pa. tients receiving BIO L6. Fourteen pa.ients ha. a. lea.t one a.verse event (a.) for one or two da.s during trea.ment;most trea.ment-rela.ed a.s were considered minor or mild in terms of severity a.d were consistent with a.s reported for probiotic consumption. The results of this study suggest tha. the use of probiotic mixture BIO L6 is effective, sa.e a.d tolera.le a.d provides beneficia. effects for subjects with eva.ua.ions disorders.

I would like to point out tha. there is controversy in the litera.ure rega.ding whether LT pa.ients undergoing THa.TKa.ha.e higher morta.ity tha. the genera. ***,future resea.ch should a.tempt to resolve this controversy.
