Thermo-economic analysis of a direct supercritical CO_(2) electric power generation system using geothermal heat

A comprehensive thermo-economic model combining a geothermal heat mining system and a direct supercritical CO_(2) turbine expansion electric power generation system was proposed in this *** by this integrated model,thermo-economic and optimization analyses for the key design parameters of the whole system including the geothermal well pattern and operational conditions were performed to obtain a minimal levelized cost of electricity(LCOE).Specifically,in geothermal heat extraction simulation,an integrated wellbore-reservoir system model(T2Well/ECO_(2)N)was used to generate a database for creating a fast,predictive,and compatible geothermal heat mining model by employing a response surface methodology.A parametric study was conducted to demonstrate the impact of turbine discharge pressure,injection and production well distance,CO_(2) injection flowrate,CO_(2) injection temperature,and monitored production well bottom pressure on LCOE,system thermal efficiency,and capital *** was found that for a 100 MWe power plant,a minimal LCOE of$0.177/kWh was achieved for a 20-year steady operation without considering CO_(2) sequestration *** addition,when CO_(2) sequestration credit is$1.00/t,an LCOE breakeven point compared to a conventional geothermal power plant is achieved and a breakpoint for generating electric power generation at no cost was achieved for a sequestration credit of $2.05/t.

Assessing the energy saving potential of using adaptive setpoint temperatures:The case study of a regional adaptive comfort model for Brazil in both the present and the future

It has been found in recent years that using setpoint temperatures based on adaptive thermal comfort models is a successful method of energy *** studies using adaptive setpoint temperatures incorporate international models from ASHRAE Standard 55 and *** study,however,has instead considered a regional Brazilian adaptive comfort *** study investigates the energy demand arising from the use of a local Brazilian comfort model in order to assess the energy implications from the use of the worldwide ASHRAE Standard 55 adaptive model and various fixed setpoint *** of Brazil’s climate zones,full air-conditioning,mixed-mode building operating modes,present-day climate change scenarios,and future scenarios—specifically Representative Concentration Pathways(RCP)2.6,4.5,and 8.5 for the years 2050 and 2100—have all been taken into account in building energy *** use of adaptive setpoint temperatures based on the Brazilian local model considering mixed-mode has been found to significantly reduce energy consumption when compared to static setpoint temperatures(average energy-saving values ranging from 52%to 58%)and the ASHRAE 55 adaptive model(average values ranging from 15%to 21%).Considering climate change and the mixed-mode Brazilian model,the overall energy demand for the three groups of climatic zones(annual average outdoor temperatures≤21℃,>21 and≤25℃and>25℃)ranged between 2%decrease and 5%increase,4%and 27%increase,and 13%and 45%increase,*** is concluded as a consequence that setting setpoint temperatures based on the Brazilian local adaptive comfort model is a very efficient energy-saving method.

Gastric cancer is one of the leading causes of cancerrelated deaths worldwide, although the incidence has gradually decreased in many Western countries. Two main gastric cancer histotypes, intestinal and diffuse, are recognised. Although most of the described genetic alterations have been observed in both types, different genetic pathways have been hypothesized. Genetic and epigenetic events, including 1q loss of heterozygosity (LOH), microsatellite instability and hypermethylation, have mostly been reported in intestinal-type gastric carcinoma and its precursor lesions, whereas 17p LOH, mutation or loss of E-cadherin are more often implicated in the development of diffuse-type gastric *** this review, we summarize the sometimes contradictory findings regarding those markers which influence the progression of gastric adenocarcinoma.

Carcinoma in gut-associated lymphoid tissue in ulcerative colitis: Case report and review of literature

The colorectal mucosa includes two quantitatively, structurally and functionally dissimilar areas: one, built with columnar and goblet cells, covers the vast majority of the mucosa, and the other consists of scattered minute gut-associated lymphoid tissue (GALT). The overwhelming majority of colorectal carcinomas evolve in GALT-free mucosal areas and very rarely in GALT aggregates. Remarkably, the colonic mucosa in patients with ulcerative colitis (UC) displays a high number of newly formed GALT-aggregates. The patient here described is a 68-year-old female with a history of UC since 1984. At surveillance colonoscopy in 2012, one of two detected polyps was a tubular adenoma with high-grade dysplasia. Beneath this adenoma, a well-circumscribed GALT sheltering a carcinoma was found. Serial sections revealed no connection between the villous adenomaand the GALT-carcinoma. The GALT-carcinoma here reported seems to have evolved in a newly formed, UC- dependent, GALT complex. This notion is substantiated by the fact that 27% or 4 out of the 15 cases of GALT- carcinomas in the colon reported in the literature (including the present case) evolved in patients with UC.

Extraction and Characterization of Oil from <i>Moringa oleifera</i>Using Supercritical CO<sub>2</sub>and Traditional Solvents

The present work presents a first characterization of the oil from the Moringa (Moringa oleifera) kernel as a potential candidate for biodiesel production. Moringa is an indigenous tree in the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico, where there is a nascent biodiesel industry. Several extraction methods are compared in terms of the extraction yields, including solvent extraction (n-hexane and ethanol), and supercritical extraction (Sc-CO2). The results are also compared against previ- ously reported data. For supercritical extraction pressures of 200 to 400 bar and temperatures of 40℃ and 60℃ were tested. Gas Chromatography analysis reveals that the main fatty acids in Moringa oil are oleic acid (69%), palmitic acid (10%), and stearic acid (8%).

The use of the multiscale generalized radial basis function(MSRBF)neural networks for image feature extraction and medical image analysis and classification is proposed for the first time in this *** MSRBF networks hold a simple and flexible architecture that has been successfully used in forecasting and model structure detection of input-output nonlinear *** this work instead,MSRBF networks are part of an integrated computer-aided diagnosis(CAD)framework for breast cancer detection,which holds three stages:an input-output model is obtained from the image,followed by a high-level image feature extraction from the model and a classification module aimed at predicting breast *** the first stage,the image data is rendered into a multiple-input-single-output(MISO)*** order to improve the characterisation,the nonlinear autoregressive with exogenous inputs(NARX)model is introduced to rearrange the available input-output data in a nonlinear *** forward regression orthogonal least squares(FROLS)algorithm is then used to take advantage of the previous arrangement by solving the system as a model structure detection problem and finding the output layer weights of the NARX-MSRBF *** the second stage,once the network model is available,the feature extraction takes place by stimulating the input to produce output signals to be compressed by the discrete cosine transform(DCT).In the third stage,we leverage the extracted features by using a clustering algorithm for classification to integrate a CAD system for breast cancer *** test the method performance,three different and well-known public image repositories were used:the mini-MIAS and the MMSD for mammography,and the BreaKHis for histopathology images.A comparison exercise was also made between different database partitions to understand the mammogram breast density effect in the performance since there are few remarks in the literature on this *** results show that

The process of cold acclimation is an important adaptive response whereby many plants from temperate regions increase their freezing tolerance after being exposed to low non-freezing temperatures. The correct development of this response relies on proper accumulation of a number of transcription factors that regulate expression patterns of cold-responsive genes. Multiple studies have revealed a variety of molecular mechanisms involved in promoting the accumulation of these transcription factors. Interestingly, however, the mechanisms implicated in controlling such accumulation to ensure their adequate levels remain largely unknown. In this work, we demonstrate that prefoldins （PFDs） control the levels of HY5, an Arabidopsis transcription factor with a key role in cold acclimation by activating anthocyanin biosynthesis, in response to low temperature. Our results show that, under cold conditions, PFDs accumulate into the nucleus through a DELLA-dependent mechanism, where they interact with HY5, triggering its ubiquitination and subsequent degradation. The degradation of HY5 would result, in turn, in anthocyanin biosynthesis attenuation, ensuring the accurate development of cold acclimation. These findings uncover an unanticipated nuclear function for PFDs in plant responses to abiotic stresses.
