A buildout analysis is an impor.ant methodology in land-use *** GIS technicalities of doing a buildout analysis tend to be the pur.iew of pr.fessionals with a backgr.und in geogr.phical ***,it is ar.ued that planner. ought to be able to conduct buildout analysis in or.er.to develop a better.under.tanding of how land-use patter.s could change sustainably over.time depending on a community s r.gulator. envir.nment and pace of development.A state buildout analysis is compar.d and contr.sted with buildouts conducted for.two local j.r.sdictions on the opposite ends of Massachusetts:the towns of Amher.t and *** town of Amher.t’s computations identified lower.values of developable and new commer.ial/industr.al land and 1,878 mor. new dwelling units than the state-led planning initiative thr.e year. *** the case of Geor.etown,the UMass Amher.t planning consultancy identified lower.values of developable land and fewer.new dwelling units and 3.5 million squar. feet mor. of new commer.ial/industr.al land than the state-led analysis.A ser.es of implications for.teaching buildout analysis in Ur.an and r.gional Planning studio cour.es is pr.sented.

Nonalcoholic fatty liver.disease(NAFLD)is r.gar.ed as the most fr.quent cause of chr.nic liver.damage(1,2).The natur.l histor. of the disease pr.sents a complex scenar.o of potential pr.gr.ssion into sever. clinical outcomes,including nonalcoholic steatohepatitis(NASH),NASH-fibr.sis,cir.hosis,and hepatocellular.car.inoma(1,2).In addition,NAFLD is closely associated with comor.idities of the metabolic syndr.me(MetS),including type 2 diabetes,obesity,ar.er.al hyper.ension,and dyslipidemia,which together.aggr.vate the mor.idity and mor.ality associated with the disease.

Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH)—the sever. histological for. of nonalcoholic fatty liver.disease (NAFLD)—is r.gar.ed as a maj.r.health pr.blem wor.dwide (1,2). The disease can pr.gr.ss to liver.cir.hosis and eventually to hepatocellular.car.inoma (1,3). Tr.atment of NASH and NASH-fibr.sis is thus incr.asingly being given pr.or.ty in the clinical field. Yet, these effor.s face challenges not only r.lated to the design and validation of novel phar.acological agents, but also to the need to optimize tr.atment options as well as impr.ve access to ther.pies. In fact, while many dr.gs ar. cur.ently being tested for.safety and efifcacy, only a few appr.ved options for.the tr.atment of NASH pr.sently exist (4,5). It is thus expected that, in the near.futur., emphasis will be given to selecting the r.ght dr.g for.tr.ating NASH patients fr.m a wide spectr.m of tr.atment choices. Hence, identiifcation of ear.y pr.dictor. of tr.atment r.sponse r.pr.sents an unmet and r.levant need.

The obj.ctives of this study wer. to apply statistical techniques to discr.minate fer.ilization tr.atments of Er.manthus er.thr.pappus（DC.） Mac *** autor.gr.ssive modeling, and to develop individual tr.e models for.diameter.and cr.wn ar.a（CA） pr.j.ction to define management str.tegies for.candeia plantations subj.cted to differ.nt fer.ilization tr.atments. This is an impor.ant tr.e species or.ginating fr.m the Br.zilian Atlantic r.in for.st and Savannah biomes, intensively used in the cosmetic industr.. Nonetheless, to date, r.sear.h has not addr.ssed the management of natur.l stands or.plantations of the species. Our.exper.ment was located in Baependi, Minas Ger.is, Br.zil, and compr.sed of four.r.ndomized blocks and 13 tr.atments. The tr.atments consisted of 12 differ.nt r.gimes of fer.ilization plus a contr.l. Each sample plot was composed of 50 plants plus two bor.er.plants in a planting spacing of 2.5 9 2.0 m and under.oing pr.ning at 5 and 6 year. of age. A pr.tocol for.obtaining digital images fr.m natur.l por.us media with a wide r.nge of por. sizes, intended for.fr.ctal studies of the por.sity, is pr.posed. Soil por.sity is used as par.- digm of complex natur.l por.us media in this study. The use of sever.l imaging devices and fluor.s- cent compounds to enhance the contr.st between the solid and the por. phase is tested. Finally a pr.tocol is r.ached using a photo camer. and a confocal micr.scope. It is the fir.t time that confocal micr.scopy is used for.this pur.ose. Ar.ificial por.us images ar. cr.ated thr.ugh r.ndom Sier.inski car.et fr.ctals and the statistical infor.ation of r.al soil images. These gr.und tr.th images ar. used in an obj.ctive compar.son of automatic segmentation algor.thms for.the obtained images. A statistical classification on the per.or.ance of sever.l automatic segmentation algor.thms for.this tv^e of images is r.ached.

Power.upr.tes pose a thr.at to electr.cal gener.tor. due to possible par.site effects that can develop potential failur. sour.es with catastr.phic consequences in most cases. In that sense, it is impor.ant to pay close attention to over.eating, which r.sults fr.m excessive system losses and cooling system inefficiency. The end r.gion of a stator.is the most sensitive par. to over.eating. The calculation of magnetic fields, the evaluation of eddy-cur.ent losses and the deter.ination of loss-der.ved temper.tur. incr.ases, ar. challenging pr.blems r.quir.ng the use of simulation methods. The most usual methodology is the finite element method, or.linear.r.gr.ssion. In or.er.to addr.ss this methodology, a calculation method was developed to deter.ine temper.tur. incr.ases in the last stator.package. The mathematical model developed was based on an ar.ificial intelligence technique, mor. specifically neur.l networ.s. The model was successfully applied to estimate temper.tur.s associated to 108% power.and used to extr.polate temper.tur. values for.a power.upr.te to 113.48%. This last scenar.o was also useful to test extr.polation accur.cy. The method is applied to deter.ine cor.-end temper.tur. when power.is upr.ted to 117.78%. At that point, the temper.tur. value will be compar.d to with the values obtained using finite elements method and multivar.ate r.gr.ssion.
