The aim of the present work was to present the outcomes of the patients with Y-chromosome microdeletions treated by intracytoplasmic sperm injection （ICSI）, either using fresh （TESE） or frozen-thawed （TESE-C） testicular sperm and ejaculated sperm （EJAC）. The originality of this work resides in the comparisons between the different types of Y-microdeletions （AZFa, AZFb, and AZFc） and treatments, with detailed demographic, stimulation, embryological, clinical, and newborn （NB） outcomes. Of 125 patients with Y-microdeletions, 33 patients presented severe oligozoospermia （18 performed ICSI with ejaculated sperm） and 92 secretory azoospermia （65 went for TESE with 40 having successful sperm retrieval and performed ICSI）. There were 51 TESE treatment cycles and 43 TESE-C treatment cycles, with a birth of 19 NB （2 in AZFa/TESE-C, 12 in AZFc/TESE, and 5 in AZFc/TESE-C）. Of the 29 EJAC cycles, there was a birth of 8 NB （in AZFc）. In TESE and EJAC cycles, there were no significant differences in embryological and clinical parameters. In TESE-C cycles, there was a significant lower oocyte maturity rate, embryo cleavage rate and mean number of embryos transferred in AZFb, and a higher mean number of oocytes and lower fertilization rate in AZFc. In conclusion, although patients with AZFc microdeletions presented a high testicular sperm recovery rate and acceptable clinical outcomes, cases with AZFa and AZFb microdeletions presented a poor prognosis. Due to the reported heredity of microdeletions, patients should be informed about the infertile consequences on NB and the possibility of using preimplantation genetic diagnosis for female sex selection.

Numerical Study on the Effect of Submerged Depth on the Horizontal Plate Wave Energy Converter

The growing search for clean and renewable energy sources has given rise to the studies of exploring sea wave energy. This paper is concerned with the numerical evaluation of the main operational principle of a submerged plate employed for the conversion of wave energy into electrical one. The numerical model used to solve the conservation equations of mass, momentum and transport of volume fraction is based on the finite volume method （FVM）. In order to tackle with the flow of mixture of air-water and its interaction with the device, the multiphase model volume of fluid （VOF） is employed. The purpose of this study is the evaluation of a numerical model for improvement of the knowledge about the submerged plate wave energy converter, as well as the investigation of the effect of the distance from the plate to the bottom of the sea （HP） on the performance of the converter. The simulations for several distances of the plate from the seabed show that the optimal efficiency is 64%, which is obtained for HP=0.53 m （88% of the depth）. This efficiency is 17% larger than that found in the worst case （HP=0.46 m, 77% of the depth）.

Subterranean estuaries are highly dynamic in processing dissolved inorganic nitrogen(DIN).Here we investigate DIN turnover in surface sediments(0–20 cm depth)at the higher,medium and lower intertidal of a seepage face,i.e.,the outer “mouth”of the subterranean estuary,during four consecutive seasons in Sanggou Bay,*** the studied period,ammonium(NH_(4)^(+))and nitrite(NO_(2)^(-))concentrations in the sampled porewaters did not vary significantly with depth or *** contrast,peaks in porewater nitrate(NO_(3)^(-))concentration and decreases in δ^(15)N-NO_(3)^(-) and δ^(18)O-NO_(3)^(-) were observed in the 15–20 cm depth(bottom)sediment,particularly during summer and *** with NO_(3)^(-) production,the sediment total nitrogen was also markedly peaking in the bottom layer of the studied seepage *** with abundant heterotrophic microbes in the sediment,this NO_(3)^(-) accumulation was linked to a reaction chain including organic matter decomposition,ammonification and *** winter,porewater enrichment in total nitrogen occurred closer to the surface of the seepage face but triggered also active NO_(3)^(-) *** pattern reinforced the importance of pelagic organic matter supply on NO_(3)^(-) *** the shallower depths of the seepage face(<12 cm),active net NO3removal occurred except in *** isotopic fractionation(δ^(15)N-NO_(3)^(-) and δ^(18)O-NO_(3)^(-) and metagenomic results revealed denitrification as the main pathway for NO_(3)^(-) *** assimilation from benthic primary producers may also consume a fraction of NO_(3)^(-) at the sediment water *** NO_(3)^(-) production and removal significantly varied in magnitude with season(13.6 to 6.2 nmol cm^(-3)h^(-1)).Substrate supply was the key driver for nitrate cycling,as evidenced by the high NO3production rate in spring by comparison to *** highest NO_(3)^(-) turnover rates were found in summer,suggesting the comb

Here we present new data on the major and trace element compositions of silicate and oxide minerals from mantle xenoliths brought to the surface by the Carolina kimberlite,Pimenta Bueno Kimberlitic Field,which is located on the southwestern border of the Amazonian *** also present Sr-Nd isotopic data of garnet xenocrysts and whole-rocks from the Carolina *** xenoliths are mainly clinopyroxenites and *** of the clinopyroxenites were classified as GPP–PP–PKP(garnet-phlogopite peridotite,phlogopite-peridotite,phlogopite-K-richterite peridotite)suites,and two clinopyroxenites(eclogites)and two garnetites are relicts of an ancient subducted *** and pressure estimates yield 855–1102℃ and 3.6–7.0 GPa,*** are enriched in light rare earth elements(LREE)(La_(N)/Yb_(N)=5–62;Ce_(N)/Sm_(N)=1–3;where N=primitive mantle normalized values),they have high Ca/Al ratios(10–410),low to medium Ti/Eu ratios(742–2840),and low Zr/Hf ratios(13–26),which suggest they were formed by metasomatic reactions with CO_(2)-rich silicate *** with high TiO_(2)(>2.0 wt.%),Al_(2)O_(3)(>12.0 wt.%),and FeOt(5.0–13.0 wt.%)resemble those found in the groundmass of kimberlites,lamproites and ***,phlogopite with low TiO_(2)(<1.0 wt.%)and lower Al_(2)O_(3)(<12.0 wt.%)are similar to those present in GPP-PP-PKP,and in MARID(mica-amphibole-rutile-ilmenite-diopside)and PIC(phlogopite-ilmenite-clinopyorxene)*** GPP-PP-PKP suite of xenoliths,together with the clinopyroxene and phlogopite major and trace element signatures suggests that an intense proto-kimberlite melt metasomatism occurred in the deep cratonic lithosphere beneath the Amazonian *** Sr-Nd isotopic ratios of pyrope xenocrysts(G3,G9 and G11)from the Carolina kimberlite are characterized by high ^(143)Nd/^(144)Nd(0.51287–0.51371)and eNd(+4.55 to+20.85)accompanied with enriched ^(87)Sr/^(86)Sr(0.70405–0.71098).These results suggest intera

Determination and Analysis of Hot Spot Areas of Deforestation Using Remote Sensing and Geographic Information System Techniques. Case Study: State Sinaloa, México

The main objective of this research is to analyze deforestation in State Sinaloa during the period 1990-2014. For this, “deforestationhot-spot areas” were identified, by crossing maps of 1993 and 2011 at a 1:250,000 scale with knowledge from environmental and forest experts from each region. Landsat images from 1990 and 2014 and Terra Amazon System were used to monitor the most critical hot spot area, applying Linear Spectral Mixture Analysis and Image Segmentation Ground Product. In order to generate the map deforestation year zero (1990), every segmented object of ground product was visually assigned to “Forest” and “No-Forest” categories. Therefore, gains and losses were interpreted for the map deforestation year one (2014). Those products were validated with the help of experts on the subject and applying a confusion matrix. Results obtained indicated that the highest forest loss was located in North-Central Sinaloa (hot spot area number two) by establishing the average annual rate of deforestation of 4741.90 ha/year with an average rate of 0.60%, being higher than the national average rate (0.37%). This result affects directlyon calculation of carbonfluxes at nationallevel.

Moral Dilemma Judgment Revisited: A Loreta Analysis

Background: Recent neuroscience investigations on moral judgment have provided useful information about how brain processes such complex decision making. All these studies carried out so far were fMRI investigations and therefore were constrained by the poor temporal resolution of this technique. Recent advances in electroencephalography (EEG) analysis provided by Low Resolution Tomogray (Loreta), Principal Component (PCA), Correlation and Regression Analysis improved EEG spatial resolution and made EEG a very useful technique in decision-making studies. Methods: Here, we reinvestigate previous fMRI study of personal (PD) and impersonal (ID) moral dilemma judgment, taking profit of these new EEG analysis improvements. Results: PCA analysis disclosed three different patterns of brain activity associated with dilemma judgment. These patterns are proposed to disclose the neural circuits involved in benefit and risk evaluation, calculating intention to act and controlling decision-making. Regression analysis showed that activity at some cortical areas favors action implementation by increasing intention to act, while activity at some other areas opposes it by decreasing intention to act. Comparison with Existing Methods: Compared to the previous fMRI results, Loreta and PCA revealed a much greater number of cortical areas involved in dilemma judgment, whose temporal and spatial distribution were different for ID compared to PD. The present paper suggests that whenever final temporal details of the decision making process are desired, EEG becomes the tool of choice as compared with fMRI. Conclusions: The presented results are discussed from the utilitarian point of view that proposes adequacy of human action being dependent upon how much pleasure and fear/pain they are associated.
