Background:Technological advancements in modern military and acrobatic jet planes have resulted in extraordinary psychophysiological loads being exerted upon flying personnel,including inducing neck and back *** purpose of this study was to examine the effects of 12 weeks of functional strength training on 1)the volume and strength of the neck and shoulder muscles and 2)muscular activity upon exposure to helmets of different masses and elevated Gz forces in a long-arm centrifuge in high-performance aircraft ***:Eighteen participants underwent 12 weeks of functional strength training(n=12)or the control protocol(n=6)without additional strength ***-and post-intervention tests included evaluations of isometric strength of the head extensor muscles,flexion,and lateral flexion and rotation,as well as magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)to measure the volume of the ***,***,and deep neck ***,during a long-arm centrifuge(+1.4 and+3Gz)protocol,the muscular activity levels of the ***,*** and *** spinae muscles were assessed without a flight helmet,with a helmet,and with a helmet and night vision *** participant’s perception of muscular strain was noted immediately after the long-arm centrifuge ***:The maximal isometric strength in all exercises and muscle volumes increased in the training group but not the control group(Pscle activity(%MVC)with a helmet decreased after the intervention in the training but not the control group(P=0.01).Relative muscle activity while wearing a helmet and night vision goggles was higher after intervention in the control group than in the training group(Pscular strain of the neck muscles induced by the long-arm centrifuge did not differ between the ***:Twelve weeks of functional strength training improves the maximal isometric strength and volume of neck and shoulder m

According to the World Health Organization （WHO）, a total of 35.6 million cases of dementia were estimated in 2010, with close to 7.7 million new cases each year. In 2008, WHO declared dementia a priority condition. 90% of all dementia cases are considered to be Alzheimer＇s disease （AD）. Therefore, great effort was made to understand the etiology of the disease and stop or slow down AD progression.

Cancer stem cell plasticity and tumor hierarchy

The origins of the complex process of intratumoral heterogeneity have been highly debated and different cellular mechanisms have been hypothesized to account for the diversity within a tumor. The clonal evolution and cancer stem cell(CsC) models have been proposed as drivers of this heterogeneity. However, the concept of cancer stem cell plasticity and bidirectional conversion between stem and non-stem cells has added additional complexity to these highly studied paradigms and may help explain the tumor heterogeneity observed in solid tumors. The process of cancer stem cell plasticity in which cancer cel s harbor the dynamic ability of shifting from a non-CsC state to a CsC state and vice versa may be modulated by specific microenvironmental signals and cellular interactions arising in the tumor niche. In addition to promoting CsC plasticity, these interactions may contribute to the cellular transformation of tumor cells and affect response to chemotherapeutic and radiation treatments by providing CsCs protection from these agents. Herein, we review the literature in support of this dynamic CsC state, discuss the effectors of plasticity, and examine their role in the development and treatment of cancer.

Multiple responses optimization in the development of a headspace gas chromatography method for the determination of residual solvents in pharmaceuticals

An efficient generic static headspace gas chromatography （HsGC） method was developed, optimized and validated for the routine determination of several residual solvents （Rs） in drug substance, using a strategy with two sets of calibration. Dimethylsulfoxide （DMsO） was selected as the sample diluent and internal standards were used to minimize signal variations due to the preparative step. A gas chroma- tograph from Agilent Model 6890 equipped with flame ionization detector （FID） and a DB-624 （30 m × 0.53 mm i.d., 3.00 μm film thickness） column was used. The inlet split ratio was 5：1. The influ- encing factors in the chromatographic separation of the analytes were determined through a fractional factorial experimental design. significant variables： the initial temperature （IT）, the final temperature （FT） of the oven and the carrier gas flow rate （F） were optimized using a central composite design. Response transformation and desirability function were applied to find out the optimal combination of the chromatographic variables to achieve an adequate resolution of the analytes and short analysis time. These conditions were 30 ℃ for IT, 158 ℃ for FT and 1.90 mL/min for F. The method was proven to be accurate, linear in a wide range and very sensitive for the analyzed solvents through a comprehensive validation according to the ICH guidelines.

Excitotoxicity refers to toxicity caused by abnormal concentrations of glutamate in the synaptic cleft that may lead to neuronal death. since its description, the phenomenon of glutamatergic excitotoxicity has been implicated in the physiopathology of a wide range of neurological and psychiatric disorders, from acute brain damage such as traumatic brain injury, ischemia as well as chronic condi- tions like epilepsy, depression and neurodegenerative pathologies such as Huntington＇s, Parkinson＇s and Alzheimer＇s diseases. Exces- sive stimulation of glutamatergic receptors, mainly N-methyl-D-as- partate （NMDA） receptors （NMDAR）, can have numerous adverse effects on the cell viability, including increased nitric oxide release （NO）, activation of proteases, increased production of reactive oxygen （ROs） and nitrogen （RNs） species and massive influx of calcium ions （Ca2＋）, resulting in cell death. Thus, the use of strategies that modulate the excitotoxic cell damage represents a perspective for the treatment of diseases such as Parkinson＇s and Alzheimer＇s diseases, ischemia, traumatic brain injury （TBI） and seizures.

Peripheral neuropathies are chronic painful syndromes characterized by allodynia,hyperalgesia and altered nerve *** tissue degeneration represents the microanatomical correlate of peripheral *** to improve the therapeutic possibilities,this study investigated the hypersensitivity and the neuromorphological alterations related to the loose ligation of the sciatic nerve in *** elicited by treatment with acetyl-L-carnitine（ALCAR） in comparison to gabapentin were *** injury,reduction of myelin deposition and accumulation of inflammatory cells were detected in damaged nerve.A decrease of phosphorylated 200-k Da neurofilament（NFP） immunoreactivity and a redistribution in small clusters of myelin basic like-protein（MBP） were observed in ipsilateral *** with ALCAR（100 mg/kg intraperitoneally-i.p.） and gabapentin（70 mg/kg i.p.） administered bis in die for 14 days induced a significant pain relieving ***,but not gabapentin,significantly countered neuromorphological changes and increased axonal NFP *** findings indicate that both ALCAR and gabapentin significantly decreased the hypersensitivity related to neuropathic *** observation of the positive ALCAR effect on axonal and myelin sheath alterations in damaged nerve supports its use as neurorestorative agent against neuropathies through mechanism（s） consistent to those focused in this study.

Agriculture, Profitability and Climate Change: Can Accounting Help Identify Best Farming Practices? Empirical Case study in spain

We perform an empirical analysis on the benefits of, and the challenges faced by, sustainability accounting in measuring the effects of climate change for a sample of spanish rice farms. We use farm yields, revenues and incomes as indicators of economic performance, and greenhouse gas emissions, and direct and indirect energy consumption as indicators of climate change effects. According to our data, farms with higher yields, revenues and income are responsible for a greater environmental impact, measured in total gigajoules of energy consumed and tons of carbon dioxide emitted, than farms with a lower economic performance. Results show that in our sample the achievement of higher yields is attributable to the greater use of chemical inputs and fossil fuels and not to innovative and sustainable farming practices. The results indicate that accounting for climate change effects is not only possible but also necessary to provide more accurate information on the overall costs and benefits of farming. Greater transparency in accounting information should serve to highlight which farming activities are better able to reduce climate change impacts.
