Geo-environmental parametric 3D models of SARS-CoV-2 virus circulation in hospital ventilation systems

The novel coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2, has the potential to cause natural ventilation systems in hospital environments to be rendered inadequate, not only for workers but also for people who transit through these environments even for a limited duration. Studies in of the fields of geosciences and engineering,when combined with appropriate technologies, allow for the possibility of reducing the impacts of the SARS-CoV-2 virus in the environment, including those of hospitals which are critical centers for healthcare. In this work, we build parametric 3D models to assess the possible circulation of the SARS-CoV-2 virus in the natural ventilation system of a hospital built to care infected patients during the COVID-19 pandemic. Building Information Modeling(BIM) was performed, generating 3D models of hospital environments utilizing Revit software for Autodesk CFD 2021. The evaluation considered dimensional analyses of 0°, 45°, 90° and 180°. The analysis of natural ventilation patterns on both internal and external surfaces and the distribution of windows in relation to the displacement dynamics of the SARS-CoV-2 virus through the air were considered. The results showed that in the external area of the hospital, the wind speed reached velocities up to 2.1 m/s when entering the building through open windows. In contact with the furniture, this value decreased to 0.78 m/s. In some internal isolation wards that house patients with COVID-19, areas that should be equipped with negative room pressure, air velocity was null. Our study provides insights into the possibility of SARS-CoV-2 contamination in internal hospital environments as well as external areas surrounding hospitals, both of which encounter high pedestrian traffic in cities worldwide.

The use of remote sensing in the design of land use mapping allows analyses of landscape evolution during a certain period of time which helps studies in a global *** objective of this study is to identify and analyze changes in characteristics of rural land use in the municipality of Passo Fundo,located in the state of Rio Grande do Sul,Brazil,during the years 2001 and 2020,through images taken from the Landsat TM-7 and TM-8 ***,satellite images were classified by supervised methods,generating thematic maps,and taking into account the following groups:tillage(growing area),forest,exposed soil and water *** demonstrated that the process of connecting agricultural crop patches went from 5.495 in 2001 to a figure of 10.812 in 2020,thus having an increase of 96%.

Carbon dioxide(CO2)emissions from motor vehicles have been increasing in large urban centers,thus contributing to air *** general objective of this study is to analyze simulations of CO2 emissions among students who use public transport in the city of Passo Fundo,in the state of Rio Grande do Sul,***,this study was developed in three stages:(1)verification of the time used by higher education students at Faculdade Meridional(IMED)in relation to urban mobility;(2)understanding of the transport mode used by these students,taking into account the one which appears with the highest incidence;(3)simulating CO2 emissions from the modes of transport used by students after the application of the Environmental Impact Simulator(EIS)used by the National Public Transport Association(ANTP,in Portuguese)for the modeling of transport indexes aimed at analyzing CO2 *** considering the total of 3,079 students who assigned to a sample of 66 questionnaires,a reduction of CO2 emissions of 4,527.04 kg during a year in relation to the use of public transport was found.

Gastric cancer is a common neoplastic disease and, more precisely, is the third leading cause of cancer death in the world, with differences amongst geographic areas. The definition of advanced gastric cancer is still debated. Different stadiating systems lead to slightly different stadiation of the disease, thus leading to variations between the single countries in the treatment and outcomes. In the present review all the possibilities of treatment for advanced gastric cancer have been analyzed. Surgery, the cornerstone of treatment for advanced gastric cancer, is analyzed first, followed by an investigation of the different forms and drugs of chemotherapy and radiotherapy. New frontiers in treatment suggest the growing consideration for intraperitoneal administration of chemotherapeutics and combination of traditional drugs with new ones. Moreover, the necessity to prevent the relapse of the disease leads to the consideration of administering intraperitoneal chemotherapy earlier in the therapeutical algorithm.

Comparative Antiproliferative Action of Two Extracts from <i>Tilia x viridis</i>on Normal and Tumoral Lymphocytes: Rela-tionship with Antioxidant Activity

Tilia species have been used in Asia, Europe and in America to treat anxiety and also for the treatment of colds and inflammation. The oxygen reactive species (ROS) (hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and the superoxide anion (O2) are involve in the balance cell proliferation/death in lymphocytes. It was reported the presence of flavonoids in Tilia species which possess antioxidant properties. The aim of this study was to determine comparatively the effect of an aqueous (AE) and ethanol (E) extract from Tilia x viridis, on the proliferation of tumoral and normal concanavalin A stimulated murine lymphocytes in relation to antioxidant activities such as peroxidase (Px), catalase (CAT) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activities involves in H2O2 modulation. Also a phytochemical pattern of the two extracts in relation to flavonoids content was determined. Both extracts presented antiproliferative action on both type of lymphocytes but E was more selective on the tumoral lymphocytes inhibition (EC50 (μg/ml, Mean ±SEM) (tumoral): 50 ± 4;EC50;(normal lymphocytes): 323 ± 20);this action was related to a high polyphenols content (150 ± 10 mg/g extract) and high “per se” SOD and low Px activities. In conclusion, the extracts could be a source of antioxidant compounds which contribute to a selective antiproliferative action on tumoral cells, acting through the modulation of H2O2 levels.

Overexpression of the cholesterol-binding protein MLN64 induces liver damage in the mouse

AIM： To examine the in vivo phenotype associated with hepatic metastatic lymph node 64 （MLN64） overexpression.METHODS： Recombinant-adenovirus-mediated MLN64 gene transfer was used to overexpress MLN64 in the livers of C57BL/6 mice. We measured the effects of MLN64 overexpression on hepatic cholesterol content, bile flow, biliary lipid secretion and apoptosis markers. For in vitro studies cultured CHO cells with transient MLN64 overexpression were utilized and apoptosis by TUNEL assay was measured.RESULTS： Livers from ***64-infected mice exhibited early onset of liver damage and apoptosis. This response correlated with increases in liver cholesterol content and bilian/bile acid concentration, and impaired bile flow. We investigated whether liver MLN64 expression could be modulated in a murine model of hepatic injury. We found increased hepatic MLN64 mRNA and protein levels in mice with chenodeoxycholic acid-induced liver damage. In addition, cultured CliO cells with transient MLN64 overexpression showed increased apoptosis.CONCLUSION： In summary, hepatic MLN64 overexpression induced damage and apoptosis in murine livers and altered cholesterol metabolism. Further studies are required to elucidate the relevance of these findings under physiologic and disease conditions.

EH （Epithelioid hemangioendothelioma） is a rare vascular malignant neoplasm. Only 434 cases had been reported until 2006. Symptoms may be nonspecific, but it atso can involve hepatic veins resulting in Budd-Chiari syndrome. The main differential diagnosis is cholangiocarcinoma, sometimes only distinguishable through immunohistochemistry study. We report a case of a young woman diagnosed with hepatic EH and listed for liver transplantation.

In Silico Pharmacokinetics Studies for Quinazolines Proposed as EGFR Inhibitors

In silico pharmacokinetics studies can aid the search for molecules with potential ability to be drug candidates. In this paper, a number of quinazoline candidates for epidermal growth factor receptor inhibitors—EGFR, important targets for the treatment of cancer, are computationally analyzed. The literature described that 69 quinazoline molecules were synthesized and the respective half maximum inhibitory concentrations (IC50) were obtained. A bilinear parabolic model was built to investigate the druglikeness by correlating the corresponding lipophilicities, which can be represented by the ideal Log P , with the optimal biological activity in terms of pIC50 values. Structural characteristics leading to improved pharmacokinetics parameters were then analyzed. Compound 56 exhibited the lowest IC50 and, therefore, it had the highest ability to inhibit the EGFR. In the present work, the most potent inhibitor 56 is not calculated to be the most promising drug candidate, since it’s out of the parabolic model obtained due to a Log P above 5, which is not within the expected optimum range. Finally, this work is an example of computational prediction that an experimentally, highly active EGFR inhibitor can be unsuccessful as drug candidate because of pitfalls in pharmacokinetics parameters.
