Temporal and spatial differences in human activities performed in Urban Green Spaces of Vilnius(Lithuania)

Urban green spaces(UGS)are relevant to city well-being,as recognized by the United Nations’Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs).However,few studies have studied the temporal use of *** work assessed the seasonal,weekly,and daily use of three urban green spaces(Vingis Park,Bernardino Garden,and Jomantas Park)in Vilnius(Lithuania).The study is based on an on-site observation-based survey,which recorded users’characteristics,activities,and weather conditions during summer and *** results showed that UGS’s seasonal,weekly,and daily use differed according to park and users’*** with a higher diversity of facilities had a high seasonal difference in the number of observed *** numbers were higher in the summer for activities with children,social activities,sports,and water activities than in the *** Park had the lowest variability in user *** variables were linked to changes in users’*** precipitation and lower temperature were associated with reducing the number of users and the diversity of registered *** of the stationary activities were observed during *** diversity of the observed activities was associated with the available facilities rather than the park *** distribution of stationary activities was spatially correlated with facility/equipment(benches,playgrounds,sports,and fitness equipment)and proximity to water *** results of this study are relevant for UGS design,planning,and management.

Urban green spaces(UGS)are essential for human well-being,contributing towards quality of life and promoting social interactions and *** to recreational UGS is key to human well-being in urban ***,there is a lack of works focused on recreational UGS accessibility in cities from different countries,using different types of *** this work,we studied the accessibility to recreational UGS in Vilnius(Lithuania)and Coimbra(Portugal)through four transport modes(foot,bike,bus and car)within 5-and 10-minute *** results showed important differences between *** had higher accessibility to recreational UGS than Coimbra in all transport *** both cities,the accessibility was highest by car and lowest by ***,the percentage of population covered by 5-and 10-minute distance UGS accessibility in Vilnius is higher than in Coimbra,despite the lower population density in Vilnius.A large number of recreational UGS,their geographic distribution,the dispersed population pattern,and the location of several urbanizations near recreational UGS increased the inhabitant’s accessibility to recreational UGS in *** differences in accessibility between cities were mainly attributed to the large number of recreational UGS and higher road network density,cycleways and footways density,and bus lines in Vilnius,compared to *** work identified the areas where recreational UGS accessibility is difficult in using different transport modes and need to be improved in study *** is essential to support urban planners and increase cities’*** findings of this work will be important for the management of the studied urban areas.

Epidemiological studies have reported an increased risk of Parkinson’s disease(PD)development in amphetamine-type stimulant users during their lifetime(Garwood et al.,2006;Rumpf et al.,2017).Protein inclusions mainly composed of misfolded and aggregatedα-synuclein are the pathological hallmark of PD and other disorders known as *** studies present evidence that amphetamine upregulatesα-synuclein synthesis in substantia *** increment ofα-synuclein levels promotes its aggregation and amyloid fibril formation,increasing reactive oxygen species(ROS),and consequently dopamine oxidation(Wang and Witt,2014),known to be toxic for dopaminergic neurons involved in motor function and limbicmotor *** the years,these damaged cells lose their functionality and may die precociously,depleting the reserve of neural cells necessary for the normal neurological function which contributes to the onset of PD,when a critical number of cells are lost(Garwood et al.,2006).Therefore,the use of amphetamine-type stimulants may be a trigger event in the development of PD and parkinsonism,in conjugation to other risk factors that a given individual may *** the evidence,a previous study suggests that there is not enough data to corroborate the loss of dopamine neurons due to human amphetamine-type stimulant exposure,and consequently its implication in the PD development(Kish et al.,2017).

Heterologous Bovine Tunica Albuginea Graft Conserved in Honey as Abdominal Wall Reinforcement in Rats

Complex abdominal wall defects might be challenging for human and veterinary surgeons worldwide. Defects from trauma or congenital causes may lead to hernias development. The introduction of meshes to reinforce hernia repairs has improved surgical outcomes and several synthetic and biologic materials have been used. In this context, biomaterial prosthesis seems to be a satisfactory solution when managing great abdominal wall defects. The aim of the current study is to evaluate the bovine tunica albuginea (BTA) preserved in honey as graft material for rats’ abdominal wall reinforcement in incisional herniorrhaphy surgery as well as its viability, cicatrization and integration into the host tissue. Wistar rats were assigned to two main groups: 1) animals (n = 20) underwent median longitudinal laparotomy followed by laparorraphy with suture of the bovine tunica albuginea (BTA) graft as abdominal wall reinforcement;and 2) animals (n = 20) underwent only laparotomy and subsequent laparorrhaphy. Rats were clinically evaluated until euthanasia at post-surgical day 7, 14, 21 and 28. Necropsy and histopathological analysis of abdominal wall fragments were performed to compare groups and subgroups findings. BTA promoted abundant fibrosis, providing resistance and low postoperative complication rates. Besides, animals did not show rejection signs to the implant. In conclusion, BTA preserved in honey is an affordable, easy collection and handling biomaterial for graft, demanding simple surgical implantation technique for abdominal wall repair in rats.

2020年是国家主席习近平承诺要在中国彻底消除贫困的一年,随着《2030年可持续发展议程》目标期限的接近,分析研究中国在农村地区解决性别平等与教育公平所付出的努力就显得极为重要。通过对妇女在中国社会中的角色发展进行必要的分析,作者认为在百年王朝统治时中国妇女被剥夺了最基本的社会认可和人类认知,包括无法获得任何类型的教育以及劳动保护。但从1949年起可以明显看出妇女在中国社会中的重要性逐渐增加。同时中国政府也开始明白妇女不仅可以成为帮助中国经济发展的必要劳动力,同时也作为后代的养育者和教育工作者,政府将更愿意接受性别平等的政策,并赋予妇女在各个方面走向独立的能力。因为在所有社会经济方面,城乡之间的差距巨大,而且由于中国正处于改革开放初期,需要经济援助和技术支持,所以从1979年开始,中国正式与联合国系统,即联合国开发计划署进行合作,并在后来又与其他机构或组织合作,包括联合国教育、科学及文化组织,联合国儿童基金会以及联合国女童教育倡议。尽管接受着外国援助,中国政府将秉承着“互补性原则”。从某种意义上说,它应遵循现行的国家政策和目标,从而促进独立性,而不是像一些其他国家一样遭受和应对着对于援助惯有的依赖。在决定致力于性别平等和教育公平之后,中国和联合国的专家收集了数据,设计了援助计划,并直接前往云南,甘肃和广西等地区,更有效地为需要完成小学和职业教育的社区,家庭和女童提供帮助,并向这些女童以及当地政府官员提供了所有必要的帮助和指导,以彻底改变对于妇女和教育的父权制态度。这三个计划取得了成功,不仅改变了当地家庭和整个地区的观点,而且还由此成为邻近的省市的榜样,甚至在全国范围内,成为成功的典范以及提供了强有力的信心,并极大的塑造一个更好的国际形象。从那时起,不同的联合国机构和项目对增强中国妇女的整体能力起到了至关重要的作用,他们充当了性别平等新领域的传播者。当时由中国政府提出的观点对于中国女权主义研究者和活动家提出了较高的政治意识形态要求。而联合国机构和项目直接帮助了妇女和家庭改变其对妇女角色的意识形态根源,为诸如中华全国妇女联合会等中国非政府组织提供了必要的战略和技术的支持,以更好地解决与性别平等有关的所有问题,包括教育、卫生以及劳务。在他们的支持下,中国政府希望深刻地修改法律,增加新的条款以代表和捍卫妇女的婚姻,健康,劳务和教育,同时也意识到并接受中国妇女的愿意改变他们个人和专业方面的现状。因此本研究希望证明,与发展中国家相比,中国在改善农村地区的女童教育以及增强妇女整体权利方面取得了更好以及更快的结果,是因为中国在早期将外国援助定位为互补角色的国家政策,以及与联合国的项目计划进行了更为紧密和全面的合作。即使在国内和国际上仍然存在着挑战,包括由于中国的”新兴大国”地位,以及中国和联合国对某些概念的理解差别很大,比如人权及其如何涵盖性别平等,这使得中国得到的外国援助有所减少。但是中国仍然是一个完美的研究案例和范例,展现着新兴的经济实力如何能够克服社会问题所带来的困难的,改善其作为社会主义国家的社会和人类安全,这在西方看来是无法实现的。同时中国也稳定承担着新兴的大国和对外援助援助国的角色。最后,西方国家和国际组织希望中国指导,或者说教导发展中国家如何利用外国援助,例如国家政策的互补性原则以及避免依赖捐助国的必要性。最后,中国本身成为一种影响力,不仅对于发展中国家,同时对传统的援助国也产生了影响,这是因为中国创造了一套新的管理和接受外国援助的模式,而这需要在学术界再进一步地研究和综合分析。

Revisiting Stoker＇s Dracula： No Brave Good Villains Left

This article considers the implication of the main character, Count Dracula, the villain/anti-hero in Stoker"s text, as a starting point to analysing the approaches deployed in the novel that introduce new stratagems to uncover the motives which allow the readers to find excuses to deny "pure" evilness. Stoker"s Dracula (1897) introduced the plausibility―in the realm of the gothic horror novel―of finding heroes in modern day "villains". This paper will argue this influence by introducing connections with modern "pop" vampires: from the teenage vampires in the Twilight saga both the texts (2005, 2006, 2007, & 2008) and the film versions ( 2008, 2009, 2010, & 2012), to the grown-up fantasies of Charlaine Harris in the True Blood saga (both the 13 books published between 2001 and 2012 and the Home Box Office TV series that started in 2008 and, so far is in its 7th season in 2014) and Tim Burton"s Dark Shadows (2012), the remake of the 70s American Broadcasting Company Gothic soap opera (which ran between june 1966 to April 1977). Bearing in mind the history of the vampire, through a brief account of its constant presence in the contemporary film and television industry, we will attempt to unveil the cultural reasons that bring light to the fact that modern society is out of brave good villains. The presentation will retrieve some theoretical support from Cristopher Frayling"s analysis of the vampire myth, David Punters" ideas on the modern gothic and Maggie Kilgour"s assumptions on the rise of the gothic.

Groundwater quality in the vicinity of a dumpsite in Lagos metropolis,Nigeria

Inappropriate management of municipal solid waste dumpsites is a major cause of groundwater contamination in developing countries,but the extent of the problem is not *** study investigated groundwater quality in the vicinity of Olusosun dumpsite in Lagos,Nigeria,the most populous city in sub-Saharan *** 2020,monthly groundwater samples were collected in 17 wells and boreholes used as drinking water sources,and analysed for 20 physico-chemical *** between sites and seasons were statistically assessed,together with changes in water quality index(WQI).The results indicated that heavy metals(Pb^(2+),Ni^(+),Mn^(2+),Fe^(2+),Cr^(6+)),cations(Ca^(2+),Mg^(2+),K^(+)),total hardness and pH were the main parameters impairing water *** water quality standards from both the World Health Organization and Nigeria government were exceeded more often in the wet season than in the dry *** groundwater properties were negatively correlated with distance to dumpsite(e.g.,Fe^(2+),Pb^(2+),NO_(3)^(−)).Significant differences between sites were identified,but with no clear spatial *** varied from excellent(6%-24%of the sites over the study period)to unsuitable for drinking water purposes(12%-18%),with good quality prevailing at most sites(35%-47%).Although groundwater quality declined at 24%of the sites over 2020,the results indicated improvements compared with previous *** strategies must be implemented to safeguard public health and the sustainability of water resources.

The selection of appropriate outcome measures is fundamental to the design of any successful clinical trial. Although dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB) is one of the most common neurodegenerative conditions, assessment of therapeutic benefit in clinical trials often relies on tools developed for other conditions, such as Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s disease. These may not be sufficiently valid or sensitive to treatment changes in DLB, decreasing their utility. In this review, we discuss the limitations and strengths of selected available tools used to measure DLB-associated outcomes in clinical trials and highlight the potential roles for more specific objective measures. We emphasize that the existing outcome measures require validation in the DLB population and that DLB-specific outcomes need to be developed. Finally, we highlight how the selection of outcome measures may vary between symptomatic and disease-modifying therapy trials.
