Synthesis of Ceramic Tiles Reinforced with Addition of Aluminum Particulate Waste

Research conducted on ceramic materials has been investigating the incorporation of solid waste into their formulations,driven by the proper disposal of such waste and the reduction of negative environmental *** study analyzed the effects of adding aluminum powder residue to the physical properties of ceramic masses with the aim of obtaining new formulations for ceramic *** aluminum residue and the standard mass for ceramic tile production were chemically characterized and homogenized to obtain new formulations with the incorporation of 4%,6%,8%,and 10%aluminum powder in the ceramic *** specimens were uniaxially pressed and sintered at a temperature of 1,200°C for 2 h,undergoing three different temperatures(100°C,400°C,and 650°C)for 30 min *** were evaluated for WA(water absorption),RLq(linear shrinkage),SEM(scanning electron microscopy),and TRF(flexural strength)*** results demonstrate that the addition of aluminum powder residue is feasible in the proposed formulations(4%,6%,8%,and 10%),as they enhance the mechanical properties of the ceramics compared to the formulation with 0%residue,at a sintering temperature of 1,200°C.

Grade 4 febrile neutropenia and Fournier's Syndrome associated with triple therapy for hepatitis C virus:A case report

The use of triple therapy for hepatitis C not only increases the rate of sustained virological responses compared with the use of only interferon and ribavirin(RBV) but also leads to an increased number of side effects. The subject of this study was a 53-year-old male who was cirrhotic with hepatitis C virus genotype 1 A and was a previous null non-responder. We initially attempted retreatment with boceprevir(BOC), Peginterferon and RBV, and a decrease in viral load was observed in the 8th week. In week 12, he presented with disorientation, flapping, fever, tachypnea, arterial hypotension and tachycardia. He also exhibitedleucopenia with neutropenia. Cefepime and filgrastim were initiated, and treatment for hepatitis C was suspended. A myelogram revealed hypoplasia, cytotoxicity and maturational retardation. After 48 h, he developed bilateral inguinal erythema that evolved throughout the perineal area to the root of the thighs, with exulcerations and an outflow of seropurulent secretions. Because we hypothesized that he was suffering from Fournier's Syndrome, treatment was replaced with the antibiotics imipenem, linezolid and clindamycin. After this new treatment paradigm was initiated, his lesions regressed without requiring surgical debridement. Triple therapy requires knowledge regarding the management of adverse effects and drug interactions; it also requires an understanding of the importance of respecting the guidelines for the withdrawal of treatment. In this case report, we observed an adverse event that had not been previously reported in the literature with the use of BOC.

Practice of Physical Activity and Its Relationship with Lipid Profile of Adolescents

In order to assess the prevalence of physical activity (PA) and its relationship with lipid profile among adolescents, a cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach was conducted with 102 adolescents aged 15 to 19 years from public schools of Campina Grande, Paraiba, Brazil. The following variables were analyzed: age, gender, ethnicity, maternal education, socioeconomic status, nutritional status, the practice of PA and lipid profile. The variables were obtained through validated form, anthropometry (weight and height) and blood collection by contract laboratory. Double entry and SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) 22.0 were performed. First, a descriptive analysis of all variables was conducted, as well as measures of central tendency and dispersion for continuous variables. Accordingly, distribution was tested for normality using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test. According to results, correlation was evaluated by Pearson/Spearman tests. Significance level of 5% was adopted for all analyses. The study was approved by the Ethics Approach Committee (EAC) of the State University of Paraíba. The most prevalent sex in the sample was female and regarding maternal education, 35.4% had complete high school. Regarding serum lipoproteins, 16% showed elevated total cholesterol and HDL (High density Lipoprotein) 66% below the desired value. With regard to physical activity, 60.8% had insufficient PA levels. The sample showed changes in lipid profile and insufficiently active life style, besides having overpowered the eutrophic nutritional status. No statistically significant correlations between variables of the lipid profile and the time of PA were observed. These findings highlight the importance of physical exercise for maintaining health and suggest studies with larger populations in order to check the scientific literature regarding this topic.

Objective: This study has the objective to know the cultural activities of the senior citizen and their participation in community life as encouraged by Primary Health Care professionals. Methods: This is a quantitative study that was performed on 130 senior citizens in the city of Santa Cruz, in the Brazil state of Rio Grande do Norte. Results: The participation of senior citizens in groups is very beneficial because it increases their autonomy and self-esteem, socialization, well-being and consequently, which leads to a higher quality of life. However, there were some failures in the promotion of healthy aging and the adoption of strategic activities. Conclusions: Based on this observation, it is expected that this study can provide resources for the primary health care professionals to try to stimulate senior citizens by carrying out cultural activities that value and increase their potential, quality of life and self-esteem and, thus, promote active and healthy aging.

Introduction: The more intense and early development of obesity, the greater the risk of persistence and severity of comorbidities, such as cardiovascular disease. There is evidence that high serum concentrations of lipoprotein (a) [Lp (a)] and C-reactive protein (CRP) are associated with increased risk of cardiovascular diseases. Objectives: To verify the change in the levels of Lp (a) and ultrasensitive CRP and its relationship with the nutritional status of adolescents. Methods: Cross-sectional study conducted with overweight children and adolescents between August 2012 and July 2013 attended at the Center for Childhood Obesity. The measurement of inflammatory markers was performed in the Clinical Laboratory of the State University of Paraiba. Comparison of sociodemographic variables by sex was tested by chi-square;the association of the risk markers according to age was evaluated by Student’s t test, and the body mass index by analysis of Pearson correlation. The normality distribution was tested by the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test. Confidence interval of 95% was adopted in all analyses. The study was approved by the Ethics Research Committee of UEPB (CAAE 0256.***.133.000-11). Results: Of the 133 children and adolescents evaluated, 60.9% were female and 72.2% were adolescents. Body Mass Index, lipo (a) and u-CRP showed statistically significant association with age (p deeper and long-term investigation should be carried out for more effective and consistent contribution to public health.

The Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is responsible for almost 99% of cervical cancers. Cervical cancer is a public health problem, being the fourth most common type of tumor among women worldwide and the third most common cancer among women in Brazil. It is known that cervical cancer is one of the most easily preventable forms of cancer, as there is a highly effective vaccine against HPV, however, morbidity and mortality rates related to human papillomavirus are still frightening, especially in less developed countries. Low vaccination adherence rates, especially the second dose, are probably a reflection of the lack of knowledge about this virus, its clinical repercussions, and the vaccine. A clinical trial was carried out in a higher education institution in Alagoas (Brazil), with students of the medical course to whom a validated questionnaire was applied on HPV in the virtual environment (google forms). Data collection was carried out throughout the month of May of the year 2023. It was shown that the knowledge of medical students about the human papillomavirus was less than what would be desired for future doctors. The alert for the acute need to assess health illiteracy is clear, especially regarding cancer that can be prevented by a highly effective vaccine.

Evaluation of DNA Extraction Methods for detection of <i>Leishmania</i>by Polymerase Chain Reaction

There are several methods used to obtain DNA from cells;however, the quantity, integrity, and purity of DNA vary among the methods, which may interfere with the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) results. The objective was to determine the most efficient and cost-effective method that provides the best DNA yield and PCR results. Three methods of DNA isolation were compared: 20% sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), guanidine isothiocyanate-phenol-chloroform (GTPC), and DNA extraction using a commercial kit (GE Healthcare GenomicPrep Blood DNA Isolation KitTM). Human peripheral blood samples were inoculated with 104 promastigotes of Leishmania infantum. DNA was quantified and PCR was performed with 13A/13B primers. The results showed that a higher DNA yield was obtained using the GTPC technique (214.51 ng/μL), followed by SDS (26.16 ng/μL) and the commercial kit (10.99 ng/μL). We concluded that while all of the techniques were effective for obtaining DNA, the GTPC method provided the best yield and the brightest bands.
