In plants, resistance to necrotrophic pathogens depends on the interplay between different horm.ne system., such as those regulated by salicylic acid （SA）, jasm.nic acid （JA）, ethylene, and abscisic acid. Repression of auxin signaling by the SA pathway was recently shown to contribute to antibacterial resistance. Here, we dem.nstrate that Arabidopsis auxin signaling m.tants axrl, axr2, and axr6 that have defects in the auxin-stim.lated SCF （Skpl-Cullin- F-box） ubiquitination pathway exhibit increased susceptibility to the necrotrophic fungi Plectosphaerella cucum.rina and Botrytis cinerea. Also, stabilization of the auxin transcriptional repressor AXR3 that is norm.lly targeted for rem.val by the SCF-ubiquitin/proteasom. m.chinery occurs upon P. cucum.rina infection. Pharm.cological inhibition of auxin transport or proteasom. function each com.rom.se necrotroph resistance of wild-type plants to a sim.lar extent as in non-treated auxin response m.tants. These results suggest that auxin signaling is im.ortant for resistance to the necrotro- phic fungi P. cucum.rina and B. cinerea. SGTlb （one of two Arabidopsis SGT1 genes encoding HSP90/HSC70 co-chaperones） prom.tes the functions of SCF E3-ubiquitin ligase com.lexes in auxin and JA responses and resistance conditioned by certain Resistance （R） genes to biotrophic pathogens. We find that sgtlb m.tants are as resistant to P. cucum.rina as wild-type plants. Conversely, auxin/SCF signaling m.tants are uncom.rom.sed in RPP4-triggered resistance to the obligate biotrophic oom.cete, Hyaloperonospora parasitica. Thus, the predom.nant action of SGTlb in R gene-conditioned resis- tance to oom.cetes appears to be at a site other than assisting SCF E3-ubiquitin ligases. However, genetic additivity of sgtlb axrl double m.tants in susceptibility to H. parasitica suggests that SCF-m.diated ubiquitination contributes to lim. iting biotrophic pathogen colonization once plant-pathogen com.atibility is established.

Nutrients are distributed unevenly in the *** plasticity in root growth and proliferation m.y enable plants to cope with this variation and effectively forage for essential nutrients. However, how m.cronutrients shape root architecture of plants in their natural environm.nts is poorly understood. We used a com.ination of field and laboratory-based assays to determ.ne the capacity of Nicotiana attenuata to direct root growth towards localized nutrient patches in its native environm.nt. Plants growing in nature displayed a particular root phenotype consisting of a single prim.ry root and a few long, shallow lateral roots. Analysis of bulk soil surrounding the lateral roots revealed a strong positive correlation between lateral root placem.nt and m.cronutrient gradients, including copper, iron and zinc. In laboratory assays, the application of localized m.cronutrient salts close to lateral root tips led to roots bending in the direction of copper and iron. This form.of chem.tropism.was absent in ethylene and jasm.nic acid deficient lines,suggesting that it is controlled in part by these two horm.nes. This work dem.nstrates that directed root growth underlies foraging behavior, and suggests that chem.tropism.and m.cronutrient-guided root placem.nt are im.ortant factors that shape root architecture in nature.

The origins of the com.lex process of intratum.ral heterogeneity have been highly debated and different cellular m.chanism. have been hypothesized to account for the diversity within a tum.r. The clonal evolution and cancer stem.cell(CSC) m.dels have been proposed as drivers of this heterogeneity. However, the concept of cancer stem.cell plasticity and bidirectional conversion between stem.and non-stem.cells has added additional com.lexity to these highly studied paradigm. and m.y help explain the tum.r heterogeneity observed in solid tum.rs. The process of cancer stem.cell plasticity in which cancer cel s harbor the dynam.c ability of shifting from.a non-CSC state to a CSC state and vice versa m.y be m.dulated by specific m.croenvironm.ntal signals and cellular interactions arising in the tum.r niche. In addition to prom.ting CSC plasticity, these interactions m.y contribute to the cellular transform.tion of tum.r cells and affect response to chem.therapeutic and radiation treatm.nts by providing CSCs protection from.these agents. Herein, we review the literature in support of this dynam.c CSC state, discuss the effectors of plasticity, and exam.ne their role in the developm.nt and treatm.nt of cancer.

Clim.te change affects distribution and persistence of species. However, forecasting species＇ re-sponses to these changes requires long-term.data series that are often lacking in ecological *** used 15 years of sm.ll m.m.al trapping data collected between 1978 and 2015 in 3 areas atDoSana National Park （southwest Spain） to （i） describe changes in species com.osition and （ii） test theassociation between local clim.te conditions and size of sm.ll m.m.al populations. Overall, 5 specieswere captured： wood m.use Apodem.s sylvaticus, algerian m.use m.s spretus, greater white-toothed shrew Crocidura russula, garden dorm.use Eliom.s quercinus, and black rat Rattus rattus. Thetem.oral pattern in the proportion of captures of each species suggests that the sm.ll m.m.al diver-sity declined with tim.. Although the larger species （e.g., E. quercinus）, better adapted to colder cli-m.te, have disappeared from.our trapping records, m. spretus, a sm.ll species inhabiting southwestEurope and the m.diterranean coast of Africa, currently is alm.st the only trapped species. We used 2-level hierarchical m.dels to separate changes in abundance from.changes in probability of captureusing records of A. sylvaticus in all 3 areas and of m. spretus in 1. We found that heavy rainfall and lowtem.eratures were positively related to abundance of A. sylvaticus, and that the num.er of extrem.lyhot days was negatively related to abundance of m. spretus. Despite other m.chanism. are likely to beinvolved, our findings support the im.ortance of clim.te for the distribution and persistence of thesespecies and raise conservation concerns about potential cascading effects in the Donana ecosystem.

A problem.of the plane elasticity theory is addressed for a doubly connected body with an external boundary of the regular hexagon shape and with a 6-fold sym.etric hole at the center. It is assum.d that all the six sides of the hexagon are subjected to uniform.norm.l displacem.nts via sm.oth rigid stam.s, while the uniform.y distributed norm.l stress is applied to the internal hole boundary. Using the m.thods of com.lex analysis, the analytical im.ge of Kolosov-m.skhelishvili＇s com.lex potentials and the shape of the hole contour are determ.ned from.the condition that the circum.erential norm.l stress is constant along the hole contour. Num.rical results are given and shown in relevant graphs.
