In situ and operando infrared spectroscopies are powerful techniques to support the design of novel materials for batteries and the development of new battery systems.These techniques can support the study of batteries by identifying the formation of new species and monitoring electrochemical energy stability.However,few works have employed these techniques,which can be used to investigate various materials,including systems beyond lithium-ion technology,in the research of batteries.Therefore,this review presents a comprehensive overview focusing on the main contributions of in situ and operando infrared spectroscopy for lithium-ion batteries(LIBs)and other battery systems.These techniques can successfully identify the formation of species during the electrolyte reduction,electrode degradation,and the formation of the solid-electrolyte interphase(SEI)layer.From these outcomes,it is possible to conclude that this characterization approach should be employed as a protocol to overcome remaining issues in batteries,consequently supporting battery research.This review aims to be a guide on how infrared spectroscopy can contribute to monitoring battery systems and to lead researchers interested in applying this technique.

Indoor localization for pedestrians with real-time capability using multi-sensor smartphones

The localization of persons or objects usually refers to a position determined in a spatial reference system.Outdoors,this is usually accomplished with global Navigation Satellite Systems(gNSS).However,the automatic positioning of people in gNSS-free environments,especially inside of buildings(indoors)poses a huge challenge.Indoors,satellite signals are attenuated,shielded or reflected by building components(e.***.walls or ceilings).For selected applications,the automatic indoor positioning is possible based on different technologies(e.g.WiFi,RFID,or UWB).However,a standard solution is still not available.Many indoor positioning systems are only suitable for specific applications or are deployed under certain conditions,e.***.additional infrastructures or sensor technologies.Smartphones,as popular cost-effective multi-sensor systems,is a promising indoor localization platform for the mass-market and is increasingly coming into focus.Today’s devices are equipped with a variety of sensors that can be used for indoor positioning.In this contribution,an approach to smartphone-based pedestrian indoor localization is presented.The novelty of this approach refers to a holistic,real-time pedestrian localization inside of buildings based on multisensor smartphones and easy-to-install local positioning systems.For this purpose,the barometric altitude is estimated in order to derive the floor on which the user is located.The 2D position is determined subsequently using the principle of pedestrian dead reckoning based on user's movements extracted from the smartphone sensors.In order to minimize the strong error accumulation in the localization caused by various sensor errors,additional information is integrated into the position estimation.The building model is used to identify permissible(e.***.rooms,passageways)and impermissible(e.***.walls)building areas for the pedestrian.Several technologies contributing to higher precision and robustness are also included.For the fusion of different linear and non-linear data,an advanced algo

The impact of the design of learning spaces on attention and memory from a neuroarchitectural approach:A systematic review

Enriched environments in animal models have demonstrated that exposure to an optimal stimulus improves behavior,cognition,and genomics.However,the evidence base for the neurophysiological influence of human environment enrichment has not been extensively studied.This systematic review compiles indicators about the effect of built,indoor environments on the cognitive processes of memory and attention in humans.This work pursues two main objectives:(1)to define current knowledge and the methods that are useful and identify whether previously published studies indicate consistencies and(2)to report the approaches and strategies that can be used in evaluating cognitive processes affected by environment response.Results of this systematic review show that(1)form and geometry,(2)space distribution and context,(3)color and texture,(4)height,width,and enclosure,(5)transition and circulation,and(6)light,sound,and temperature have an impact on memory and/or attention,and they can be assessed objectively.Despite all the advances in this field,methodological limitations and a lack of cross-validated standard protocols are found.Therefore,future research is necessary to provide a deep insight into how human cognition can be heightened by the environment to which it is exposed.

O_(3) based advanced oxidation for ibuprofen degradation

The degradation of the anti-inflammatory ibuprofen(IBP)was evaluated by several advanced oxidation processes.IBP was treated by single ozonation and oxidation with hydrogen peroxide(H_(2)O_(2)),as well as a combination of these treatments.In order to improve the efficiency,the presence of catalysts such as original carbon nanotubes,labelled as CNT,and iron oxide supported on carbon nanotubes,named as Fe/CNT sample,was considered.The evolution of IBP degradation,mineralization and toxicity of the solutions was assessed.The formation of intermediates was also monitored.In the non-catalytic processes,IBP was faster removed by single ozonation,whereas no significant total organic carbon(TOC)removal was achieved.Oxidation with H_(2)O_(2) did not present satisfactory results.When ozone and H_(2)O_(2) were combined,a higher mineralization was attained(70%after 180 min of reaction).On the other hand,in the catalytic processes,this combined process allowed the fastest IBP degradation.In terms of mineralization degree,the presence of Fe/CNT increases the removal rate in the first hour of reaction,achieving a TOC removal of 85%.Four compounds were detected as by-products.All treated solutions presented lower toxicity than the initial solution,suggesting that the released intermediates during applied processes are less toxic.

Resource requirements of an edge-based digital twin service:an experimental study

Digital Twin(DT)is a pivotal application under the industrial digital transformation envisaged by the fourth industrial revolution(Industry 4.0).DT defines intelligent and real-time faithful reflections of physical entities such as industrial robots,thus allowing their remote control.Relying on the latest advances in Information and Communication Technologies(ICT),namely Network Function Virtualization(NFV)and Edge-computing,DT can be deployed as an on-demand service in the factories close proximity and offered leveraging radio access technologies.However,with the purpose of achieving the well-known scalability,flexibility,availability and performance guarantees benefits foreseen by the latest ICT,it is steadily required to experimentally profile and assess DT as a Service(DTaaS)solutions.Moreover,the dependencies between the resources claimed by the service and the relative demand and work loads require to be investigated.In this work,an Edge-based Digital Twin solution for remote control of robotic arms is deployed in an experimental testbed where,in compliance with the NFV paradigm,the service has been segmented in virtual network functions.Our research has primarily the objective to evaluate the entanglement among overall service performance and VNFs resource requirements,and the number of robots consuming the service varies.Experimental profiles show the most critical DT features to be the inverse kinematics and trajectory computations.Moreover,the same analysis has been carried out as a function of the industrial processes,namely based on the commands imposed on the robots,and particularly of their ion-level,resulting in a novel trade-off between computing and time resources requirements and trajectory guarantees.The derived results provide crucial insights for the design of network service scaling and resource orchestration fra-meworks dealing with DTaaS applications.Finally,we empirically prove LTE shortage to accommodate the minimum DT latency requirements.

Chronic pain is sustained by a phenomenon of hyper-activation of nociceptive neurons both at peripheral(peripheral sensitization)and central(central sensitization)levels.The onset and maintenance of pain,however,is to be found in the interaction among the various cell populations in the nervous tissue including neurons and glia(Nam et al.,2016).The pathogenesis of neuropathic pain is extremely complex depending on the primary cause of nerve damage,e.***.traumatic nerve injury is associated with a robust inflammatory response while chemotherapy-induced pain is characterized by a modest phlogistic component(Di Cesare Mannelli et al.,2013).Despite these differences,a powerful common concept to explain the cellular mechanisms underlying pain is the activation of glia.

Standardness and Standard Automorphisms of Chevalley groups,Ⅰ:the Case of Rank at Least Two

The author studies the linkage between the standardness and the standard automorphisms of Chevalley groups over rings.It is proved that if H is any standard subgroup of g(R),then each of its automorphisms can be extended to an automorphism of g(R,I),restricted to an automorphism of E(R,I),and an automorphism of E(R,I) can be extended to one of g(R,I).The case of Chevalley groups of rank at least two is treated in this paper.Further results about the case of Chevalley groups of rank one,the case of non-commutative ground ring and some others exceptions will appear elsewhere.

Infiltrative xanthogranulomatous cholecystitis mimicking aggressive gallbladder carcinoma: A diagnostic and therapeutic dilemma

Xanthogranulomatous cholecystitis(XgC) is an uncommon variant of chronic cholecystitis. The perioperative findings in aggressive cases may be indistinguishable from those of gallbladder or biliary tract carcinomas. Three patients presented mass lesions that infiltrated the hepatic hilum,provoked biliary dilatation and jaundice,and were indicative of malignancy. Surgical excision was performed following oncological principles and included extirpation of the gallbladder,extrahepatic bile duct,and hilar lymph nodes,as well as partial hepatectomy. Postoperative morbidity was minimal. Surgical pathology demonstrated XgC and absence of malignancy in all three cases. All three patients are alive and well after years of follow-up. XgC may have such an aggressive presentation that carcinoma may only be ruled out on surgical pathology. In such cases,the best option may be radical resection following oncological principles performed by expert surgeons,in order that postoperative complications may be minimized if not avoided altogether.

Ectophylla alba is a tent-making bat that roosts in mixed-sex clusters comprising adults and offspring.Our goal was to determine the genetic identity of individuals belonging to different roosting groups.We tested the hypothesis of kin selection as a major force structuring group composition.We used 9 microsatellites designed for E.alba to determine the genetic identity and probability of parentage of individuals.We analyzed parentage and kinship using the software ML-Relate,genAIEx,and Cervus.The obtained relationship probabilities(0.5)revealed a clear maternal relationship between female adults and offspring with allele compatibility,and at least 5 relationships between male adults and pups.We found a low degree of relatedness within roosting groups.Between roosting groups at different sites,the mean probability of a half-sibling relationship ranged from 0.214 to 0.244 and,for full-sibling relationship,from 0.383 to 0.553.genetically,adult individuals were poorly related within clusters,and kinship as an evolutionary force could not explain group membership.
