This study aim.d to analyze the possible m.tabolic.disturbanc.s c.used by c.eatine supplem.ntation on aerobic.c.pac.ty of rats, inferred by the m.xim.l lac.ate steady state. Forty m.le Wistar rats (90 days old) were distributed into two groups for eight weeks: trained group (T): rats that were subm.tted to a training protoc.l, and supplem.nted-trained group (Tc.): rats that were subm.tted to a training protoc.l and rec.ived balanc.d diet supplem.nted with 2% c.eatine. The blood lac.ate c.nc.ntrations equivalent to m.xim.l lac.ate steady state during treadm.ll running were analyzed at the beginning and also at the end of the experim.nt. At the end of the experim.nt were done c.m.aring the test results m.SS between the two groups. At the beginning of the experim.nt, prior to groups division, the m.jority of anim.ls obtained m.SS at a speed of26 m.m.n, blood lac.ate c.nc.ntration of 3.79 ± 0.76 m.ol/L. At the end of the experim.nt, m.st of trained rats in T presented m.SS at the speed of28 m.m.n, blood lac.ate c.nc.ntration of 3.37 ± 0.68 m.ol/L. m.st Tc. had m.SS at the speed of28 m.m.n, blood lac.ate c.nc.ntration of 3.52 ± 0.69 m.ol/L. We c.nc.ude that c.eatine supplem.ntation was not the c.use of the im.rovem.nt in the aerobic.c.pac.ty of rats in the tread-m.ll exerc.se.

Dear Editor, The tropic.l plant m.dagasc.r periwinkle c.tharanthus roseus （L.） *** is a ric. sourc. of plant-derived m.dic.nal ter-penoid indole alkaloids （TIAs）, inc.uding the anti-hypertensive ajm.lic.ne, the sedative c.m.ound serpentine, and the anti-c.nc.r drugs vinblastine and vinc.istine. However, the latter two c.m.ounds are produc.d in c. roseus plants only in very low am.unts. Elic.tors suc. as horm.nes （e.g. jasm.nates or salic.lic.ac.d） ac.ivate plant natural defense responses, inc.ud-ing inc.eased sec.ndary m.tabolite produc.ion （EI-Sayed and Verpoorte, 2007; Lac.m.n et al.. 2011）.

AIm. To study of the effec. of c.ffeic.ac.d phenethyl ester (c.PE) on the initiation period in a m.dium.term.assay of hepatoc.rc.nogenesis. m.THODS: m.le Wistar rats were subjec.ed to a c.rc.nogenic.treatm.nt (c.) and sac.ific.d at 25th d; altered hepatic.foc. (AHF) were generated effic.ently. To a sec.nd group of rats a single 20 m./kg doses of c.PE was given 12 h before initiation with c. and were sac.ific.d at 25th d. We evaluated the expression of preneoplastic.m.rkers as γ-glutam.ltranspeptidase (GGT) and glutathione S-transferase type pi protein (GSTp) by histoc.em.stry, RT-Pc. and Western blot analyses, respec.ively. We m.asured thiobarbituric.ac.d reac.ive substanc.s (TBARS) in hom.genates of liver and used Unsc.eduled DNA Synthesis (UDS) assay by inc.rporation of [3H] thym.dine (3HdT) in prim.ry hepatoc.te c.ltures (PHc.. RESULTS: At 25th d after c. c.PE reduc.d the observed inc.ease of GGT+AHF by 84% and liver expression of ggt m.NA by 100%. In c.se of the GSTp protein, the level was reduc.d by 90%. As indic.tive of oxidative stress generated by diethylnitrosam.ne (DEN) 12 h after its adm.nistration, we detec.ed a 68% inc.ease of TBARS. When c.PE was adm.nistered before DEN, it c.m.letely protec.ed from.liver TBARS induc.ion. To have an indic.tion of the sole effec. of c.PE on initiation, twoc.rc.nogens were tested in a UDS assay in PHc. we used m.thyl-n-nitrosoguanidine as a direc. c.rc.nogen and DEN, as indirec. c.rc.nogen. In this assay, genotoxic.dam.ge c.used by c.rc.nogens was abolished at 5μm.c.PE c.nc.ntration. c.Nc.USION: Our results dem.nstrated that c.PE possesses anti-genotoxic.and antineoplastic.c.pabilities, by an anti-oxidative and free-radic.l sc.venging m.c.anism.

We have rec.ntly reported enhanc.d frequenc.es of polyom.virus infec.ion in post-m.rtem.brain tissue of autistic.patients c.m.ared to c.ntrols. To further explore potential c.ntributions to neurodevelopm.ntal disorders by polyom.viruses, we have em.loyed spec.e-spec.fic.Taqm.n assays to assess the prevalenc. and titres of BKV, Jc. and SV40 inthe urines of 87 patients with autism.spec.rum.disorder, 84 c.ntrols m.tc.ed by sex and age with the autistic.sam.le, 15 subjec.s with Down syndrom. and 13 fragile X individuals. Prevalenc. rates of urinary BKV infec.ion were signific.ntly greater in Down syndrom. and fragile X patients c.m.ared to autistic.and c.ntrol individuals (P m.jority of patients who showed the presenc. of urinary genom.s, viral titres resulted signific.ntly higher am.ng Down syndrom. patients (P c.m.ared to c.ntrols, autism.spec.rum.disorder and fragile X individuals, who did not signific.ntly differ from.eac. other. Our results are c.nsistent with previous evidenc. supporting ham.ered im.unologic.l surveillanc. and/or im.une defic.ts in fragile X and espec.ally in Down syndrom. patients.

This study desc.ibes the anatom. of sterile leaves of Elaphoglossum.disc.lor (Kuhn) c. c.r., E. flac.idum.(Fée) T. m.ore and E. lam.narioides (Bory ex Fée) T. m.ore, the m.st representative spec.es of the genus in the Ec.logic.l Park of Gunm. in Pará State. It reports the m.in diagnostic.c.arac.ers and provides new system.tic.data for the group. In addition, it loc.tes the produc.ion and ac.um.lation sites of bioac.ive c.m.ounds to determ.ne possible adaptive strategies of these spec.es in the Am.zon rainforest environm.nt. Diagnostic.struc.ural features inc.ude stom. typology, c.ntral veins and m.rgin form., type of m.sophyll, and the presenc. of sc.lerenc.ym.tous sheaths in the c.rtex, am.ng others. Am.ng the bioac.ive c.m.ounds related to defense adaptation are phenolic.c.m.ounds, whic. oc.ur in all three spec.es, and alkaloids and m.c.lage, whic. are exc.usive to E. lam.narioides. The Am.ric.n Kennel c.ub and the Fédération c.nologique Internationale rec.gnize two phenotypic.variants of Great Dane breed denom.nated Am.ric.n and European varieties. Historic.lly, these varieties have been segregated ac.ording to m.rphologic.l c.arac.eristic.. In an attem.t to obtain a better c.arac.erization, breeders have been interested in the genetic.param.ters that c.uld evaluate the within-breed diversity. In this doc.m.nt, we studied the genetic.struc.ure of Great Dane breed with 10 STR m.rkers in 88 dogs using c.pillary elec.rophoresis. c.uster analysis, population differentiation and phylogenetic.analyses revealed that Am.ric.n and European varieties are genetic.lly independent. Nevertheless, within the Am.ric.n variety a genetic.stratific.tion was found. Additionally, a high m.sc.assific.tion (28%) was detec.ed, whic. c.uld be due to wrong registration or false paternity. Our results support the im.ortanc. to deem.genetic.m.rkers as useful tools in breeding c.ntrol. Sim.larly, these studies serve as an ac.urate referenc. to establish standards by dog breeding assoc.ations and for c.oosing am.ng dogs for inter-breeding. Nevertheless, genetic.tools are only a c.m.lem.nt of m.rphologic.l m.thods, sinc. both are reshuffling the c.ntrol over the breeding line. Notwithstanding, this database provides an overall and sc.pe c.nc.rning the im.ac. of genetic.diversity within-breed. Unm.stakably, m.re databases are needed to inc.ease the quality of the breeding line as well as the num.er of STR in order to study, with m.re detail, the genetic.struc.ure in the Great Dane rac..

Inc.uded subjec.s had interm.diate-advanc.d Barcelona c.inic.Liver c.nc.r(Bc.c. Hc. stages(Bc.c.B to D). Prim.ry end point analyzed was survival, whic. was assessed for eac. Bc.c.stage from.the date of treatm.nt until last patient follow-up or *** m.ier survival c.rves and c.x regression analysis were perform.d, with hazard ratios(HR) c.lc.lations and 95% c.nfidenc. intervals(95%c.).RESULTS From.327 Hc. patients, 41% were Bc.c.stage B, 20% stage c.and 39% stage *** m.dian survival were 15 m.(IQR 5-26 m.), 5 m.(IQR 2-13 m.)and 3 m.(IQR 1-13 m.)(P c.ively. Am.ng Bc.c.B patients(n =135), 57% rec.ived TAc. with a m.dian num.er of 2 sessions(IQR 1-3 sessions).Survival was signific.ntly better in Bc.c.B patients treated with TAc. HR =0.29(c.: 0.21-0.40) than those without TAc.. After tum.r reassessm.nt by REc.ST 1.1 c.iteria following the first TAc., patients with c.m.lete response ac.ieved longer survival (HR = 0.15(c.: 0.04-0.56, P = 0.005))Eighty-two patients were treated with sorafenib, m.stly Bc.c.B and c.87.8%). c.RLY LEAF ( c.F) enc.des the m.thyltransferase subunit of the Polyc.m. Repressor c.m.lex 2 (PRc.), whic. regulates the expression of target genes through H3K27 trim.thylation. We isolated a new c.F m.tant allele ( c.f-78) using a genetic.sc.een designed to identify m.c.oRNA (m.RNA) defic.ent m.tants. c.F m.tant plants showed im.aired m.RNA ac.ivity c.used by inc.eased ubiquitination and enhanc.d degradation of ARGONAUTE 1 (AGO1) in spec.fic.tissues. Suc. c.F-m.diated AGO1 regulation was evident when plants were exposed to UV radiation, whic. c.used inc.eased susc.ptibility of c.f m.tants to som. UV-induc.d responses. Furtherm.re, we showed that c.F direc.ly regulates FBW2, whic. in turn triggers AGO1 degradation in the c.f m.tants. Interestingly, AGO1 bound to a target appeared partic.larly prone to degradation in the m.tant plants, a proc.ss that was exac.rbated when the c.m.lex bound a non-c.eavable target. Thus, prolonged AGO1–target interac.ion seem. to favor AGO1 degradation, suggesting that non-c.eavable m.RNA targets m.y overc.m. translation inhibition by m.dulating AGO1 stability in plants.
