Review of coal and gas outburst in Australian underground coal m.nes

Outburst of coal and gas represents a significant risk to the health and safety of m.ne personnel working in developm.nt and longwall production face *** have been over 878 outburst events recorded in twenty-two Australian underground coal *** outburst incidents have been associated with abnorm.l geological *** of Australian outburst incidents and m.ning experience in conditions where gas content was above current threshold levels are presented and *** experience suggests that for gas con-tent below 9.0 m.3/t,m.ning in carbon dioxide(CO2)rich seam.gas conditions does not pose a greater risk of outburst than m.ning in CH4 rich seam.gas *** experience also suggests that where no abnorm.l geological structures are present that m.ning in areas with gas content greater than the current accepted threshold levels can be undertaken with no discernible increase in outburst *** current approach to determ.ning gas content threshold lim.ts in Australian m.nes has been effective in prevent-ing injury from.outburst,however operational experience suggests the current m.thod is overly conser-vative and in som. cases the threshold lim.ts are low to the point that they provide no significant reduction in outburst *** factors that affect outburst risk,such as gas pressure,coal toughness and stress and geological structures are presently not incorporated into outburst threshold lim.ts adopted in Australian *** factors and the developm.nt of an outburst risk index applicable to Australian underground coal m.ning conditions are the subject of ongoing research.

Large Eddy Sim.lation on Interaction Between in-Line and Cross-Flow Oscillation of A Circular Cylinder

This paper discusses num.rical results from.three-dim.nsional large eddy sim.lations of an oscillating cylinder under prescribed m.vem.nts in uniform.flow. Six cases, nam.ly pure in-line, pure cross-flow and two groups of ＇Figure of Eight＇ oscillation patterns are under investigation at Reynolds num.er Re = 24000. The ＇ Figure of Eight＇ pattern in each group is with identical shape but oppusite orbital directions. The num.rical results on hydrodynam.c forces, higher order force com.onents, and vortex shedding m.des are extensively studied and com.ared with the m.asured experim.ntal data. It is found that the fluid force in phase with the velocity, which represents the energy transfer between the fluid and the cylinder, has opposite sign and different m.gnitude due to the opposite orbital direction. Higher order force com.onents in cross-flow direction are found to occur at odd nm.ber tim.s of the oscillating frequency, while even nm.ers dom.nate the higher order force com.onents in in-llne direction. The 2C and 2T vortex shedding m.des are well reproduced due to the opposite orbital direction effect. Com.arisons between num.rical and experim.ntal results indicate that the present num.rical m.del could be a rational tool for the identification of hydrodynam.c coefficients which are norm.lly applied in em.irical m.dels to predict the vortex-induced vibrations of slender m.rine structures.

We review the postulated threatening processes that m.y have affected the de- cline in the eastern population of the m.narch butterfly, Danausplexippus L. （Lepidoptera： Nym.halidae）, in North Am.rica. Although there are likely m.ltiple contributing factors, such as clim.te and resource-related effects on breeding, m.grating, and overwintering populations, the key landscape-level change appears to be associated with the widespread use of genetically m.dified herbicide resistant crops that have rapidly com. to dom.nate the extensive core sum.er breeding range. We dism.ss m.sinterpretations of the apparent lack of population change in sum.er adult count data as logically flawed. Glyphosate-tolerant soybean and m.ize have enabled the extensive use of this herbicide, generating widespread losses of m.lkweed （Asclepias spp.）, the only host plants for m.narch larvae. m.deling studies that sim.late lifetim. realized fecundity at a landscape scale, direct counts of m.lkweeds, and extensive citizen science data across the breeding range suggest that a herbicide-induced, landscape-level reduction in m.lkweed has precipitated the decline in m.narchs. A recovery will likely require a m.num.ntal effort for the re-establishm.nt of m.lkweed resources at a com.ensurate landscape scale.

BACKGROUND:Transarterial chem.em.olization(TACE) is a palliative procedure frequently used in patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinom.(HCC). We exam.ned the national inpatient trends of TACE and related outcom.s in the United States over the last ***:We utilized the National Inpatient Sam.le(2002 to 2012) and perform.d trend analyses of TACE for HCC in all adult patients(age >18 years). m.ltivariate analyses for the outcom.s of in-hospital "procedure-related com.lications"(PRCs) and "post-procedure com.lications"(PPCs) were perform.d. We also com.ared early(2002 to 2006) and late(2007 to 2012) eras by m.ltivariate analyses to identify predictors of com.lications, healthcare resource utilization and ***:Overall, 19058 patients underwent TACE for HCC where PRCs and PPCs were seen in 24.2% and 17.6% of patients, respectively. The overall trends in the use of TACE(Pm.rtality [adjusted Odds ratio(a OR):0.58; 95% CI:0.41, 0.82], reduced length of hospital stay(-1.87 days; 95% CI:-2.77,-0.97) and increased hospital charges($19232; 95% CI:11013, 27451) in the late era. Additionally, there was increased m.rtality(a OR:4.07; 95% CI:2.96, 5.59), PRCs(a OR:3.21; 95% CI:2.56, 4.02), and PPCs(a OR:2.70; 95% CI:2.11, 3.46) am.ng patients with ***:There is an increasing trend of TACE utilization in HCC. However, the outcom.s are worse in patients with coagulopathy. Although PRCs have increased, m.rtality has decreased in recent years. These findings should be considered during TACE evaluation in patients with HCC.

Despite significant im.rovem.nts in outcom.s after liver trans-plantation,m.ny patients continue to die on the waiting list,while awaiting an available organ for *** shortage is not only due to an inadequate num.er of available organs,but also the inability to adequately assess and evaluate these organs prior to *** the last few decades,ex-vivo perfusion of the liver has em.rged as a useful technique for both im.roved organ preservation and assessm.nt of organs prior to *** anim.l studies have shown the superiority of ex-vivo perfusion over cold static ***,these studies have not,necessa-rily,been translatable to hum.n *** anim.l studies have been essential in understanding and im.roving this ***,these results have yet to be translated into clinical use.A few Phase 1 clinical trials have shown prom.se and confirm.d the viability of this ***,m.re robust studies are needed before ex-vivo liver perfusion can be widely accepted as the new clinical standard of organ ***,we aim.d to review al relevant large and sm.l anim.l research,as well as hum.n liver studies on norm.ther-m.c ex-vivo perfusion,and to identify areas of deficiency and opportunities for future research endeavors.
