Combination of allopurinol and hyperbaric oxygen therapy:A new treatment in experimental acute necrotizing pancreatitis?

AIM： To investigate the individual and combined effects of allopurinol and hyperbaric oxygen （HBO） therapy on biochemical and histopathological changes, oxidative stress, and bacterial translocation （BT） in the experimental rat acute pancreatitis （AP）. METHODS： Eighty-five Sprague-Dawley rats were included in the study. Fifteen of the eighty-five rats were used as controls （sham, Group I ）. AP was induced via intraductal taurocholate infusion in the remaining seventy rats. Rats that survived to induction of acute necrotizing pancreatitis were randomized into four groups. Group H received saline, Group m allopurinol, Group IV allopurinol plus HBO and Group v HBO alone. Serum amylase levels, oxidative stress parameters, BT and histopathologic scores were determined. RESULTS： Serum amylase levels were lower in Groups Ⅲ, Ⅳ and v compared to Group H （974 ± 110, 384 ± 40, 851 ＋ 56, and 1664 Ⅳ 234 U/L, respectively, P 〈 0.05, for all）. Combining the two treatment optionsrevealed significantly lower median [25-75 percentiles] histopathological scores when compared to individual administrations （13 [12.5-15] in allopurinol group, 9.5 [7-11.75] in HBO group, and 6 [4.5-7.5] in combined group, P 〈 0.01）. Oxidative stress markers were significantly better in all treatment groups compared to the controls. Bacterial translocation into the pancreas and mesenteric lymph nodes was lower in Groups m, iV and v compared to Group H （54%, 23%, 50% vs 100% for translocation to pancreas, and 62%, 46%, 58% vs 100% for translocation to mesenteric lymph nodes, respectively, P 〈 0.05 for all）. CONCLUSION： The present study confirms the benefit of HBO and allopurinol treatment when administered separately in experimental rat AP. Combination of these treatment options appears to prevent progression of pancreatic injury parameters more effectively.

Endovascular management of traumatic arterial emergencies:A single center retrospective study

Objectives:To present our experience in delivering endovascular therapies for emergent vascular traumas with various vascular ***:Between September 2013 and February 2018,patients who underwent endovascular intervention due to penetrating,blunt and iatrogenic arterial traumas were analyzed,*** data,trauma site,mechanism of injury,angiographic findings or arterial injury patterns,treatment methods,and outcomes were ***:A total of 30 patients were *** mean age of patients was 39 years(range:15-87 years).Arterial trauma locations were in the compressible area with a rate of 43%(n=13)and in the noncompressed area with a rate of 57%(n=17).Mechanisms of injuries were blunt[53%(n=16)],penetrating[17%(n=5)],and iatrogenic[30%(n=9)].The most common indication for endovascular treatment was blunt noncompressible injury(n=12).Methods used for treatment were stent-graft(46%,n=14)and coil embolization(54%,n=16).Immediate success was obtained in all *** mean follow-up duration was 5 months(range:1-12 months).Conclusions:Endovascular treatments performed in traumatic arterial emergencies are effective and minimally invasive with very low complication rates even in hemodynamically unstable patients.

Thermal decomposition of the supported carbido cluster was investi-gated by in situ FT-IR spectroscopy in a temperature range of 25-300℃. Thesupported clusters on alumina and modified alumina with Me4NBr or PPNClshow quite different decomposition ways in vacuo and under various atmo-spheres, such as H2, CO, N2and CO + H2. The different decomposition waysprobably lead to the different metal sites of the final catalyst.

Orofacial pain and fibromyalgia pain:Being aware of comorbid conditions

Orofacial pain originating from myofascial pain of temporomandibular disorders is the second most common source of pain, after tooth pain. However, diagnosis of myofascial pain is challenging due to its characteristic referral pattern. Furthermore, pain arising from structures in the orofacial region may be a presentation of fibromyalgia and treatment directed at temporomandibular disorders fails to alleviate the pain. Similarly, patients with fibromyalgia may present with pain in the orofacial region. The physician in this case should be aware of temporomandibular disorders, its characteristic findings and treatment approaches that might be included in the treatment plan.

In this letter, we report observations from the Magnetospheric Multiscale (MMS) mission of large-scale parallel electric fields in a magnetosheath reconnecting current sheet. The four MMS satellites successively crossed an electron jet embedded in a broad current sheet, and detected a unipolar parallel electric field being co-located with the jet.

Enzymatic Synthesis and Characterization of Biodegradable Poly(w-pentadecalactone-co-ε-caprolactone)Copolymers

As an alternative biodegradable aliphatic polyester,poly(w-pentadecalactone-co-ε-caprolactone)copolymer was synthesized via enzymatic ring-opening polymerization.A new biocatalyst,Candida antarctica lipase B,immobilized onto rice husk ash was used for *** were carried out at various temperatures and periods for varied copolymer compositions in order to obtain the highest molecular weight *** best reaction parameters were found to be 80℃ and 6 hours and molecular weights increased proportionally with the amount of w-pentadecalactone(w-PDL).The molecular structure of copolymer with 75%weight ratio of w-PDL(Mn=19720 g/mol)was characterized by proton and carbon nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopies(^1H-NMR and ^13C-NMR).Thermal properties of the same copolymer and homopolymers were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry(DSC)and thermogravimetric analysis(TGA).Improved thermal features were shown by addition of w-PDL to the structure and compared with poly(ε-caprolactone)(PCL).Consequently,poly(w-pentadecalactone-co-ε-caprolactone)copolymers were found to be good alternatives to widely used polyester,PCL,with their rapid polymerization tendency,higher molecular weights,and improved thermal features.

The aim of this study,is 1-butanol production using CO2 with *** PCC 7942 *** yields of 1-butanolproduced/CO2utilized have been *** maximum concentration of produced 1-butanol is 35.37 mg/L and 1-butanolproduced/CO2utilized efficiency is *** optimum operational conditions were 30°C temperature,60 W intensity of light,pH=7.1,120 mV redox potential,0.083 m^3/sn flow rate with CO2 and 0.5 mg/l dissolved O2 *** the enzymes on the metabolic trail of the production of 1-butanol via using *** PCC 7942 *** maximum yield;the measured concentrations are 0.016μg/ml for hbd;0.0022μg/ml for Ter and 0.0048μg/ml for *** cost analyses necessary for 1-butanol production has been done and the cost of 1 liter 1-butanol has been determined as 1.31 TL/L.
