The value of prognostic markers for pediatric trauma patients

BACKGROUND: Despite the rapid development of pediatric intensive care medicine, there are still limited data in the literature regarding the follow-up of pediatric trauma patients in pediatric intensive care units(PICUs). In this study, we aim to evaluate our experience with children admitted and followed up with the diagnosis of trauma at our ***: We evaluated the retrospective data of 77 pediatric trauma patients who were admitted to the PICU at Sancaktepe Sehit Prof. Dr. IlhanVarank Training and Research Hospital from August 2020 to December 2022. The demographic data, clinical parameters and laboratory results were recorded. The primary outcome was the mortality in PICU. The performances of markers in predicting mortality were evaluated with receiver operating characteristic(ROC) ***: The median age of the patients was 70(33–157) months, and the median duration of hospitalization in the PICU was 6(2–11) d. Of the 77 patients, 9 died due to trauma(11,1%). Among the clinical parameters, Pediatric Risk of Mortality III(PRISM III) Score, inotrope requirement, extracorporeal treatment requirement, and mechanical ventilator requirement were significantly higher in non-survivors than in survivors. Among the laboratory parameters, procalcitonin(PCT), lactate/albumin ratio(LAR), neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio(NLR), and transfusion requirement were significantly higher in non-survivors than in ***: In pediatric trauma patients, baseline PCT, LAR, and NLR values can be used to identify patients at risk for mortality.

Covering the More Visible Region by Electrochemical Copolymerization of Carbazole and Benzothiadiazole Based Donor-Acceptor Type Monomers

An electrochromic copolymer film of 2-(3,3-dihexyl-3,4-dihydro-2 H-thieno[3,4-b][1,4]dioxepin-6-yl)-7-(3,3-dihexyl-3,4-dihydro-2 H-thieno[3,4-b][1,4]dioxepin-8-yl)-9 H-carbazole(M1) and 4,7-bis(thiophen-2-yl)benzo[c][1,2,5]thiadiazole(M2) was prepared via electrochemical technique. The copolymerization was performed with one to one monomer feed ratio. Electrochemical and optical properties of the resulting copolymer film(P3) and the homopolymer films of M1 and M2(P1 and P2) were investigated by using cyclic voltammetry and UV-Vis spectrometry techniques, and the corresponding results were compared. Incorporation of M1 and M2 into copolymer matrix was clearly observed on the resulting cyclic voltammograms and UV-Vis spectra. P3 covered the visible regions coming from both P1 and P2, and exhibited a neutral state darker color than those of homopolymers. P3 film was found to have a multichromic behavior, appearing as brown in its neutral state while changing its color upon oxidation to dark-gray(at about 0.3 V), to blue(at about 0.6 V) and finally to grayish cyan(beyond 0.9 V), with a corresponding optical band gap of 1.65 eV.

Enzymatic Synthesis and Characterization of Biodegradable Poly(w-pentadecalactone-co-ε-caprolactone)Copolymers

As an alternative biodegradable aliphatic polyester,poly(w-pentadecalactone-co-ε-caprolactone)copolymer was synthesized via enzymatic ring-opening polymerization.A new biocatalyst,Candida antarctica lipase B,immobilized onto rice husk ash was used for *** were carried out at various temperatures and periods for varied copolymer compositions in order to obtain the highest molecular weight *** best reaction parameters were found to be 80℃ and 6 hours and molecular weights increased proportionally with the amount of w-pentadecalactone(w-PDL).The molecular structure of copolymer with 75%weight ratio of w-PDL(Mn=19720 g/mol)was characterized by proton and carbon nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopies(^1H-NMR and ^13C-NMR).Thermal properties of the same copolymer and homopolymers were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry(DSC)and thermogravimetric analysis(TGA).Improved thermal features were shown by addition of w-PDL to the structure and compared with poly(ε-caprolactone)(PCL).Consequently,poly(w-pentadecalactone-co-ε-caprolactone)copolymers were found to be good alternatives to widely used polyester,PCL,with their rapid polymerization tendency,higher molecular weights,and improved thermal features.

Dithiothreitol and PEG Induced Combined Stress May Affect the Expressions of ABA Aldehyde Oxidase, Sucrose Synthase and Proline Metabolic Genes in Maize Seedlings

The endoplasmic reticulum(ER)is an organelle in the cell where proteins are created and *** is a very elaborate process that is often interrupted by various biotic and abiotic stresses,leading to the formation of unfolded and misfolded proteins called ER ***(DTT)-induced unfolded protein response(UPR)in endoplasmic reticulum(ER)has been recently reported in ***,previous studies demonstrated that treatment with polyethylene glycol(PEG 6000)could stimulate water deficit in ***,further researches should be conducted to elucidate the molecular mechanism of ER stress response and the relationship between water deficiency and *** this study,we examined the expressions of sucrose synthase(SuS)gene,proline metabolic genes and abscisic aldehyde oxidase(AAO3)gene in maize seedlings that were subjected to DTT and PEG induced combined stresses by using quantitative real-time *** weeks old detached maize seedlings were treated with or without DTT and PEG 6000 for 12 *** treatment with DTT increased about 2-fold the expression of gene encoding proline synthesis enzyme,pyrroline-5-carboxylate synthetase(P5CS)but no statistically affected the proline catabolism enzyme,proline dehydrogenase(ProDH)in comparison with un-treated *** treatment was also up-regulated P5CS while it was down-regulated *** relative expression levels of SuS and AAO3 genes statistically enhanced about 2.5 fold under the DTT-induced ER ***,the expression levels of SuS and AAO3 genes were up-regulated in the detached seedlings exposed to PEG-induced water ***,the induced gene expressions were down-regulated under the combined stress,the DTT-induced ER stress and PEG-induced water deficit in comparison with the singular stress responses(DTT or PEG).The results indicated that the expressions of genes,related to the synthesis of some signal osmolyte compounds such as proline and sucrose can be suppressed when ER s

Novozyme 435,which is the commercially available immobilized form of Candida antarctica lipase B,has been successfully conducted ring opening polymerization of lactones in organic *** this paper,it was aimed to introduce an alternative biocatalyst for Novozyme *** antarctica lipase B immobilized onto rice husk ashes via physical adsorption(with a specific activity of 4.4 U/mg)was prepared in previous studies and used as a biocatalyst for poly(δ-valerolactone)synthesis in the present *** reactions were proceeded at various reaction temperatures and periods via both two immobilized enzyme *** resulting products were characterized spectroscopically and *** highest molecular weight(Mn=9010 g/mol)was obtained via Novozyme 435 catalysis at 40℃and 24 *** performance of home-made lipase,which resulted in a molecular weight of 8040 g/mol,was close to commercial one.

Intraocular pressure elevation after intravitreal triamcinolone acetonide injection: a Meta-analysis

AIM：To report on intraocular pressure（IOP）after intravitreal injections of triamcinolone acetonide.·M ETHODS：Systematic literature review of studies that investigated the effects of an injection of triamcinolone Intravitreal triamcinolone acetonide on IOP was conducted according to the Cochrane Collaboration methodology and the reported effects have been analyzed with Meta-analysis.·RESULTS：We found that the IOP follows an inverted-U shape pattern over time starting with an average value of14.81±1.22 mm Hg before the injection,rising to a maximum of 19.48±2.15 mm Hg after one month of injection and falling down to 16.16±1.92 mm Hg ***,country of study,age,previous history of glaucoma and gender compositions matter for crossstudy were different in reported IOP changes.·CONCLUSION：Our findings may be helpful in determining pressure elevation risk of intravitreal triamcinolone acetonide therapy as well as comparing it with those of more recent therapies such as the antivascular endothelial growth factor agents.

From“prototype”to“model”:Architectural and spatial development of Block A(1924—1945)of Istanbul’s Heybeliada Sanatorium

This article examines Block A,the first block-style building in Heybeliada Sanatorium in *** purpose of this research is to understand its architectural and spatial development and discuss how in fact it was a“prototype”of Turkish *** with a three-step methodology(documentation/evaluation/results)this research conducts architectural and spatial analysis on Block *** sources like architectural documentation and restitution drawings,the writings of the institution’s head doctor Tevfik Ismail Gökçe,periodicals on tuberculosis(TB),as well as pertinent literature are *** findings demonstrate that Block A’s development(1924—1945)was the result of knowledge transfer that introduced the universal sanatorium design principles,spatial experiments,adaptation to sociocultural norms,and trial-and-error *** only it had a major impact on shaping of the second block-type building in the complex,the“model”Block B,but it also became exemplary of the subsequent Turkish *** originality of this article is its exploration of the changing and evolving Block A in its resonation with the cultural tensions of Turkey’s modernization *** was established via the assessment of budgetary issues,medical developments and climatic experiments,the social issue of scarcity of TB beds in the country,spatial practices to separate the sexes as reflections of local traditions and culture in the shaping of spaces.

Exchanging simulation models is currently of utmost *** improve interoperability between suppliers and original equipment manufacturers(OEMs),the functional mock-up interface(FMI)is exchanged in a standard format called functional mock-up unit(FMU).Since its first release,many simulation tools took the initiative to support ***,since then,there have been many complaints stating that exchanging models via FMI does not work as stable as *** reason usually turned out to be the implementation of tool vendors that sometimes fail to comply with the standard *** paper introduces a methodology for testing FMI compliance of importing simulation tools using a set of reference *** standard defines the implementation of FMI functions calling sequence in a state ***,conformance testing(also called fault detection)from automata theory is utilized to produce reference FMUs based on the FMI state-machine.

Long-term success of ahmed glaucoma valve in refractory glaucoma

AIM:To evaluate the long-term results and complications of ahmed glaucoma valve (AGV) implantation in refractory glaucoma.· METHODS:A retrospective review of 13 patients (13 eyes) with refractory glaucoma who underwent AGV implantation and had a minimum follow-up of 18 months was *** patients underwent a complete ophthalmologic examination and intraocular pressure (IOP) measurement before surgery and at 1 month,3 months,6 months,1 year after surgery and yearly *** and the number of antiglaucoma medications needed were recorded.· RESULTS:Mean age was 27.3±16.0 *** eyes (100%) had at least one prior incisional *** follow-up was 61.3±30.8 *** was reduced from a mean of 35.0±7.0mmHg to 18.2±7.9mmHg at 12 months and to 17.0±4.1mmHg at 96 months (P <0.05) with a lower number of medications from baseline,76.9% patients required additional procedures to achieve the success criteria set by previously published *** most common complications were encapculated cyst formation in eight eyes (61.5%) and tube exposure in four eyes (30.8%).· CONCLUSION:Encapsulated cyst formation was the most common complication which hindered succesful IOP control after AGV implant insertion for refractory *** cyst excision with anti-fibrotic agents,successful IOP reduction was not achieved in 76.9% of the patients without antiglaucoma medication.
