Calcareous nannoplankton biostratigraphy has been performed on five sedimentary sections through the marine Akveren Formation from the Bartin region of northern Turkey, on the southern Black sea coast. This new biostratigraphy provides an age for the formation of the Early Campanian （nannofossil zone UC15aTp） to Early selandian （nannofossil zone NPs）, and highlights the presence of the Campanian/Maastrichtian, Cretaceous/Tertiary （K/T）, and Danian/selandian boundaries in this intermediate palaeolatitude location. Micula murus was identified below the K/T boundary, but Micula prinsii and Nephrolithus frequens were not, which implies that the K/T boundary interval is not complete in the study area. These dates are in agreement with previous micropaleontological studies.

MicroRNAs （miRNAs） were discovered two decades ago, yet there is still a great need for further studies elucidating their genesis and targeting in different phyla. since experimental discovery and validation of miRNAs is difficult, computational predictions are indispensable and today most computational approaches employ machine learning. Toxoplasma gondii, a parasite residing within the cells of its hosts like human, uses miRNAs for its post-transcriptional gene reg- ulation. It may also regulate its hosts＇ gene expression, which has been shown in brain cancer. since previous studies have shown that overexpressed miRNAs within the host are causal for disease onset, we hypothesized that T. gondii could export miRNAs into its host cell. We computationally predicted all hairpins from the genome of T. gondii and used mouse and human models to filter possible candidates. These were then further compared to known miRNAs in human and rodents and their expression was examined for T. gondii grown in mouse and human hosts, respectively. We found that among the millions of potential hairpins in T. gondii, only a few thousand pass filtering using a human or mouse model and that even fewer of those are expressed. since they are expressed and differentially expressed in rodents and human, we suggest that there is a chance that T. gondii may export miRNAs into its hosts for direct regulation.

We computationally investigate the impact of crystal strain on the formation of native point defects likely to be formed in halide perovskites;A-site cation antisite(I_(A)),Pb antisite(I_(Pb)),A-site cation vacany(V_(A)),I vacancy(V_(I)),Pb vacancy(V_(Pb)),and I interstitial(I_(i)).We systematically identify compressive and tensile strain to CsPbI_(3),FAPbI_(3),and MAPbI_(3)perovskite *** observe that while each type of defect has a unique behaviour,overall,the defect formation in FAPbI3 is much more sensitive to the *** compressive strain can enhance the formation energy of neutral I_(Pb)and I_(i)up to 15%for FAPbI_(3),depending on the growth *** show that the strain not only controls the formation of defects but also their transition levels in the band gap:A deep level can be transformed into a shallow level by the *** anticipate that tailoring the lattice strain can be used as a defect passivation mechanism for future studies.

seismic isolation systems designed for extreme events may likely experience low to moderate earthquakes during the design life of the structure rather than the extreme event *** new seismic building design codes, low and moderate earthquakes are also mandatory to be investigated in Turkey and some other countries. One of the main reasons is to protect the integrity of non-structural elements or machines during these types of earthquakes. The selection of appropriate seismic isolation is typically decided based on their forcedisplacement characteristics and amount of energy dissipation per cycle. The same energy dissipation per cycle(EDC) can be achieved by high force-low displacement or low force-high displacement response. The focus of this research is given to identify the performance of ball rubber bearing isolation systems compared to different or similar EDC units such as elastomeric bearings and lead rubber bearings through a series of shake table tests performed at low to moderate earthquake levels. shake table tests were conducted on an almost full scale short span bridge. The tests have revealed that the ball rubber bearings are superior to elastomeric bearings in terms of EDC and can match EDC of LRB. However, although LRB and BRB have the same EDC, BRB is more beneficial to use under low to moderate earthquakes since BRB can transmit less force with larger displacement compared to LRB and LRB can sometimes stay in elastic range with an ineffective EDC as a stiffer elastomeric bearing.

This study investigated the calcareous nannofossil assemblages in detail from the early Miocene aged Lice Formation outcropping in the Kahramanmara? basin. The biostratigraphy of calcareous nannofossils was outlined and paleoenvironmental features determined. In 81 samples taken from three measured sections in the region, 17 calcareous nannofossil genus and 48 nannofossil species were identified. These calcareous nannofossil genus and species identified the Lice Formation as being in the CNM4 nannofossil biozone. The abundance and diversity of early Miocene calcareous nannofossil species varied in the measured sections, with the samples generally moderate-poor, apart from a few samples. The relative abundance of individuals of Cyclicargolithus floridanus, Coccolithus pelagicus, Reticulofenestra hagii and sphenolithus moriformis species, with paleoecological importance identified in the study region, indicate that in early Miocene times, the basin in which the Lice Formation deposited was meso-eutrophic with excess nutrient input, temperate and generally stable shallow marine conditions.

Human epidermal growth factor receptor 2(HER2) signaling pathway activation has been identified as a contributor to de novo or acquired resistance to epidermal growth factor receptor(EGFR) inhibitors in a small subset of patients with metastatic colorectal cancer(mCRC). Dual anti-HER2-targeted treatment exhibits strong antitumor activity in preclinical models of HER2-positive mCRC, supporting its testing in clinical trials. The HERACLEs trial at four Italian academic cancer centers has confirmed the effectiveness of dual blockage of HER2 with trastuzumab plus lapatinib in patients with heavily pretreated HER2-positive mCRC, refractory to the anti-EGFR antibodies cetuximab or panitumumab. Here, we reviewed the preclinical studies exploring the role of HER2 signaling in the development of anti-EGFR therapy resistance and discussed the status of clinical trials assessing the activity of HER2 inhibitors in this setting.

Background:Pathogen spectrum and antibiotic susceptibility patterns vary in different regions and should consider the empirical treatment of urinary tract infections(UTIs).Information on susceptibility is the basis for providing reliable *** study aimed to determine the antibiotic susceptibility of bacteria isolated from urine cultures at Çukurova state Hospital,which is located south of Turkey and east of the Mediterranean *** and methods:Urine culture results were retrospectively evaluated between April 2018 and January ***,such as age,sex,and medical department,were also *** criteria were patients aged at least 18 years with pathogenic bacterial growth in their urine *** susceptibility testing and bacterial identification were performed using the VITEK 2 automated ***:Of 12,288 urine samples,2033(16.5%)had pathogenic *** rates of bacterial and yeast growth were 93.3%and 6.7%,***-negative pathogens constituted 91.6%of the *** most prevalent bacteria were Escherichia coli with a 66%rate,followed by Klebsiella(14.2%).According to our results,ciprofloxacin,trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole,and ampicillin are not suitable for empirical treatment of UTIs,whereas nitrofurantoin and fosfomycin are rational ***:Uropathogens exhibit an increased resistance rate against ampicillin,trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole,and ***,fosfomycin,and ceftazidime have better efficacy than other investigated antibiotics in urine culture against common uropathogens and are suitable for empirical treatment of UTI.
