Projections of heat-related excess mortality in China due to climate change,population and aging

Climate change is one of the biggest health threats of the 21st *** China is the biggest developing country,with a large population and different climate types,its projections of large-scale heat-related excess mortality remain *** particular,the effects of climate change on aging populations have not been well studied,and may result in significantly underestimation of heat *** this study,we took four climate change scenarios of Tier-1 in CMIP6,which were combinations of Shared Socioeconomic Pathways(SSPs)and Representative Concentration Pathways(RCPs).We used the exposure-response functions derived from previous studies combined with baseline age-specific non-accidental mortality rates to project heat-related excess ***,we employed the Logarithmic Mean Divisia Index(LMDI)method to decompose the impacts of climate change,population growth,and aging on heat-related excess ***,we multiplied the heat-related Years of Life Lost(YLL)with the Value of a Statistical Life Year(VSLY)to quantify the economic burden of premature *** found that the heat-related excess mortality would be concentrated in central China and in the densely populated south-eastern coastal *** aging is considered,heat-related excess mortality will become 2.8–6.7 times than that without considering aging in 2081–2100 under different *** contribution analysis showed that the effect of aging on heat-related deaths would be much higher than that of climate *** findings highlighted that aging would lead to a severe increase of heat-related deaths and suggesting that regional-specific policies should be formulated in response to heat-related risks.

Numerical Simulation of the High-Boosting Influence on Mixing,Combustion and Emissions of High-Power-Density Engine

Future high-power-density engines require high level of intake ***,the effects of boosting on mixing,combustion and emissions in existing studies are *** this paper,the mixing,combustion and emission characteristics with intake pressures of 100-400 kPa at low,medium and high loads are *** results show that the increase of intake pressures is conducive to the enhancement of air entrainment,while the air utilization ratios are reduced,thus requiring injection pressure to be optimized to effectively improve the *** the intake pressures of 100 kPa,the average chemical reaction path is low-temperature reaction route,while the path of higher intake pressures is dominated by high-temperature *** soot emissions,when the equivalence ratio is lower than 0.175,the oxygen in the cylinder is suficient,so the effect of temperature decrease is more significant,which leads to the increase of soot emissions with the increase of intake ***,the effect of increasing oxygen concentration is more significant,so soot decreases *** the peak of global temperature is lower than 1800 K,the effect of the increase of oxygen concentration is more dominant,so the NO_(x)emission increases with the increase of intake ***,the rule of NOxemissions is consistent with temperature changes.

A front-end electronics of dose monitor has been developed for measuring irradiation dose to the patient in Shanghai Advanced Proton Therapy *** parallel plate ionization chamber is used for the dose *** the traditional method of recycling capacitor integration and voltage-to-frequency conversion,this dose monitor electronics uses the trans-impedance amplifier and analog-to-digital conversion *** performs satisfactorily,with the integral nonlinearity of less than ±0.04 nA in the range of-400 to 50 nA and the resolution of about±0.6 nA.

Precise gradient separation of nanoparticles using reduced graphene oxide-polyoxomolybdate membranes

Methods for the construction of DEMs of artificial slopes considering morphological features and semantic information

As human activities increase,artificially modified terrain is increasingly widely distributed in road,hydrological,and urban *** modified terrain plays an important role in protecting from geological disasters and in the planning and design of urban *** with natural slopes,artificial slopes have obvious morphological *** modeling methods are no longer suitable for digital elevation model(DEM)modeling of artificial slopes because they often seriously distort the DEM *** this paper,from the perspective of morphological characteristics,artificial slopes are divided into two types,namely,regular slopes and irregular slopes,based on whether the top and bottom lines of the artificial slope are ***,according to the morphological characteristics of the two types of slopes,the following DEM construction methods are designed:the first method(perpendicular+inverse distance weighted)is suitable for regular slopes,and the second method(perpendicular+high-accuracy surface modeling)is suitable for irregular ***,a DEM construction test is carried out using the artificial slopes in the study *** results show that for the regular and irregular slopes in the study area,the construction method proposed in this paper has significant advantages in morphological accuracy over the traditional method(triangulated irregular network),and the elevation accuracy method is also superior to the traditional method(using this method,the mean error and standard deviation error of the regular slope DEM are 0.08 m and 0.13 m,respectively,and those of the irregular slope DEM are 0.08 m and 0.06 m).In addition,the top lines and bottom lines can be included in the DEM construction of the background area after processing the elevation information of the boundary line to realize a smooth transition in the boundary between the artificial slope and the background area.

3D porous iron(Fe)scaffolds with interconnected open pores are promising candidates for bone ***,the bare 3D porous Fe scaffolds lack of antibacterial activity and the ability for cell ***,atomic layer deposition technique was used to deposit nanometer-thick zinc oxide(ZnO)layer onto the skeleton of 3D porous Fe scaffolds with interconnected open *** effect of ZnO thin film on the in vitro degradation behavior,antibacterial activity and cytocompatibility of 3D porous Fe scaffolds was systematically *** results showed that a dense ZnO thin film with a thickness of 76 nm was uniformly deposited on the skeleton of the porous Fe *** thickness of ZnO thin film could be easily controlled by the deposition *** deposited ZnO thin film significantly reduced the degradation rate of porous Fe scaffolds and the fabricated ZnO coated porous Fe scaffolds demonstrated strong antibacterial ability against both Gram-negative Escherichia coli and Gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus,while did not significantly affect cytocompatibility and could also promote cell adhesion.

Copper pyrithione (CuPT) is an alternative to tributyltin that is widely used as an antifoulant and biocide in paint for ship hulls, fishing nets, and other marine environmental facilities. It gradually leaches from antifouling coatings into the aquatic environment, posing health risks to aquatic organisms. In recent years, there have been increasing concerns regarding the impacts of CuPT and its degradation products on organisms, as well as the associated health risks. Although the ecotoxicity of CuPT and its degradation products in various species has been studied, there are no comprehensive reviews in the literature that have collated and interpreted these data. This review provides a comprehensive summary of the ecotoxicological effects of CuPT and its degradation products on microorganisms, plants, invertebrates, fish, and mammals. CuPT and its degradation products can affect the light utilization of plants, thereby altering primary production in ecosystems. It can disrupt cell membranes, antioxidant capacity, and cellular pH gradients in animals, leading to developmental toxicity, deformities, morphological damages, endocrine disruption, reproductive toxicity, hepatotoxicity, and neurotoxicity. Mitochondria are believed to be the primary target of CuPT-induced toxicity in aquatic animals;however, further investigations are warranted to reveal the long-term (e.g., multigenerational and transgenerational) impacts and associated molecular mechanisms of CuPT and its degradation products-particularly at environmentally realistic levels. This will facilitate a more comprehensive understanding of the health effects (both in terms of toxicity and hormesis) and environmental risks of CuPT and its degradation products, facilitating more effective regulation and mitigation.

Enhanced photodegradation of phenolic compounds by adding TiO_2 to soil in a rotary reactor

Photodegradation ofpentachlorophenol （PCP） and p-nitrophenol （PNP） in soil was carried out in a designed rotary reactor, which can provide the soil particles with continually uniform irradiation, and on a series of thin soil layers. TiO2, as a kind of environmental friendly photocatalyst, was introduced to the soil to enhance the processes. Compared with that on the soil layers, photodegradation of PCP at initial concentration of 60 mg/kg was improved dramatically in the rotary reactor no matter whether TiO2 was added, with an increase of 3.0 times in the apparent first-order rate constants. The addition of 1 wt% TiO2 furthered the improvement by 1.4 times. Without addition of TiO2, PNP （initial concentration of 60 mg/kg） photodegradation rate in the rotary reactor was similar to that on the soil layers. When 1 wt% additional TiO2 was added, PNP photodegradation was enhanced obviously, and the enhancement in the rotary reactor was 2 times of that on the soil layers, which may be attributed to the higher frequency of the contact between PNP on soil particles and the photocatalyst. The effect of soil pH and initial concentrations of the target compounds on the photodegradation in the rotary reactor was investigated. The order of the degradation rate at different soil pH was relative to the aggregation of soil particles during mixing in the rotary reactor. Photodegradation of PCP and PNP at different initial concentrations showed that addition of TiO2 to enhance the photodegradation was more suitable for contaminated soil with higher concentration of PCP, while was effective for contaminated soil at each PNP concentration tested in our study.
