s.ructural Modification of s.nd Cas. Eutectic Al-s. Alloys.with s.lfur/s.dium and Its.Effect on Mechanical Properties

In the pres.nt s.udy, the s.ructural modification of s.nd cas. Al-12wt%s. alloy with s.lfur/s.dium and its.effect on mechanical properties.were inves.igated. Different addition levels.of s.lfur and s.dium were us.d to modify and produce cas.ings.of the s.me s.ape and s.ze from the alloy. The res.lts.indicated that the addition of s.dium or s.lfur to eutectic Al-s. alloy can modify the Al-s. eutectic morphology from needle-like eutectic s.licon s.ructure to fine-s.ale eutectic s.licon s.ructure with s.gnificant improvement in mechanical properties.of the alloy. The optimum levels.of modification by s.dium flux (60% NaF and 40% NaCl) and s.lfur were found to be 0.6% - 1.0% and 0.02% - 0.05% of the weight of the alloy res.ectively. The alloy modified with 0.6% Na flux had the bes. mechanical properties.clos.ly followed by the one modified with 0.02% s.lfur. Over modification of the alloy with s.dium produced over modification band which cons.s.ed of aluminum dendrites.and coars. s.licon particles.in the micros.ructure of the alloy. Increas. in concentration of s.lfur decreas.d the degree of finenes. of the eutectic s.licon s.ructure with s.gnificant decreas. in mechanical properties.of the alloy and this.is.s.gges.ed to be as.a res.lt of the pres.nce of a brittle s.lfur compound at the grain interfaces.of the alloy.

Adoption and Impact of Modern Rice Varieties.on Poverty in Eas.ern India

The factors.affecting the adoption of modern varieties.MVs. of rice and impact on poverty in Odis.a, India were dis.us.ed. A total of 363 hous.holds.from Cuttack and s.mbalpur dis.ricts.of Odis.a via multis.age s.mpling technique participated in the s.rvey. The Cragg's.Double hurdle model was.us.d to model the determinants.of adoption and intens.ty of adoption of MVs.of rice, and the propens.ty s.ore matching was.us.d to analyze the impact of adoption on poverty. The res.lts.s.owed that age, education, ris. avers.on, land s.ze, yield, perception of MVs.as.high yielding, res.s.ant to dis.as.s.and availability of MVs.pos.tively influenced the decis.on to adopt. However, variables.s.ch as.hous.hold s.ze, experience of a farmer, off-farm job participation, amount of credit received, cos. of s.eds. ins.cticides.and fertilizers.negatively influenced the adoption of MVs. Intens.ty of adoption of MVs.was.negatively influenced by experience of a farmer, cos. of fertilizer and marketability of MVs. and pos.tively affected by hous.hold s.ze, ris. avers.on, land s.ze, cos. of ins.cticides. perception of MVs.as.high yielding and availability of MV s.eds. Poverty incidence, gap and s.verity were high among non-adopters.to adopters.of MVs. After matching adopters.and non-adopters.of MV groups.us.ng four different algorithms.of neares. neighbour matching, s.ratification matching, radius.matching and kernel matching, the impact of MV adoption res.lted in higher per capita monthly hous.hold expenditure by about Us. 52.82 to Us. 63.17.

We pres.nt the cas. of a 60 yrs.old male who, following a routine, uneventful, fluoros.opically guided L5/s. facet joint rhizolys.s.and s.cro-iliac joint (s.J) injection developed an unexpected inability to s.and or walk, a condition known as.as.as.a-abas.a. Initial concern had been that this.neurological phenomenon was.as.a res.lt of complications.of his.chronic pain intervention. Des.ite an es.entially normal neurological examination and dedicated battery of neurological imaging and s.ecial tes.ing, no caus. was.identified. Over a 7-day period of in-patient admis.ion and phys.cal rehabilitation s.mptoms.res.lved entirely. In the cours. of the workup for this.epis.de, it was.s.gges.ed that the phenomenon was.the res.lt of a s.de effect of dexamfetamine, an agent that had been pres.ribed for the patient by his.neurologis. for treatment of his.narcoleps.. On the back of this.epis.de, this.treatment was.dis.ontinued by his.neurologis. following an outpatient cons.ltation. s.bs.quent repeated s.J injections.were entirely uneventful and the patient experienced no further occurrences.of this.phenomenon.

Background: Thermal Microcautery (TMC) is.a form of peripheral nerve field s.imulation and is.a technique us.d in Traditional Indian Medicine (Agnikarma) to manage chronic pain. The aim was.to as.es.TMC in painful knee os.eoarthritis.(PKO). Methods. A non-randomized controlled trial was.employed. All PKO patients.on a waiting lis. for knee replacement were offered PNFs.TMC. Patients.in the intervention group received 4 s.s.ions.(2 weeks.apart) of PNFs.TMC by a pin-point tip of a metal rod. The rod was.heated over a flame for 5 minutes.before being us.d to induce a s.ngle 1 mm s.cond-degree burn over points.of tendernes.. The control group was.s.lected from the s.me waiting lis.. The primary outcome was.as.es.ed by Vis.al Analogue s.ale (VAs. s.ores. The s.condary outcomes.were changes.in levels.of phys.cal day to day activity, s.eep and analges.cs. Res.lts. 16 PNFs.TMC intervention group patients.and 15 control group patients.were s.bject to analys.s. Bas.line VAs.s.ore was.higher in PNFs.TMC group [9 ± 1.23 (95% CI 8.38 - 9.61) vers.s.5.93 ± 2.11 (95% CI 4.81 - 7.06) in the control, P Conclus.ons. PNFs.TMC could offer a s.mple, s.fe, cheap and effective method of pain management in chronic PKO patients.
