AIM To identify factors associated with Papanicolaou-smear(Pap-smear) cervical cancer screening rates in a safety net *** From January 2012 to May 2013, the use of Pap-smear was determined for all patients seen at the breast clinic in a safety net hospital. Health literacy assessment was performed using the validated newest Vital Sign. The records of patients were reviewed to determine if they had undergone Pap-smears for cervical cancer screening. Sociodemographic information was collected included age, education, monthly income, race/ethnicity, employment, insurance status, and primary care provider of the patient. Logistic regression analysis was then performed to determine factors associated with utilization of Papsmears. Crude and adjusted odds ratios derived from multivariate logistic regression models were calculated as well as the associated 95% CIs and *** Overall, 39% had Pap-smears in the prior 15 mo, 1377 consecutive women were seen during the study period and their records were reviewed. Significantly more patients with adequate health literacy underwent Papsmears as compared to those with limited health literacy(59% vs 34%, P n multivariate analysis, patients with adequate health literacy, younger patients, and those with later age of first live birth were more likely to undergo Pap-smears. Patients whose primary care providers were gynecologists were also significantly more likely to have Pap-smears compared to other specialties(P nts younger than 21 years or older than 65 years underwent screening less frequently(11% and 11%, respectively) than those 21-64 years(41%, P nicity, language, and insurance status were not associated with Pap-smear screening *** Patient health literacy and primary care physician were associated with Pap-smear utilization. Development of interventions to target low health literacy populations could improve cervical cancer screening.

The volatilisation of perfluorooctanoic acid(PFOA)was measured experimentally at a range of pH values using a previously published laboratory ***-to-air transfer was studied for five structural isomers,namely:the linear isomer(n-PFOA)and the four most commonly occurring branched isomers(3-,4-,5-and 6-PFOA).The influence of water concentration and water type on the pH-dependent waterto-air transfer was also investigated for *** water-to-air transfer was studied over the course of 48 h at pH values ranging from 0.2 to *** all experimental conditions tested,the volatilisation of PFOA was negligible at pH>*** experiments performed with MilliQ water,volatilisation increased with decreasing water *** experiments performed with tap water and lake water,maximum volatilisation was observed at pH *** concentration of PFOA in water had no influence on the pH value at which water-to-air transfer was observed(*** pHncentration range tested(0.1e50 mg/L PFOA in deionised water).Although the percentage of PFOA volatilised was significantly different for the four branched isomers at low pH,volatilisation was not observed above pH 2.5 for any branched isomer suggesting that all PFOA isomers have a low ***,these laboratory results demonstrate that volatilisation of any structural isomer of PFOA from water is negligible at environmentally-relevant *** is unlikely that PFOA isomers will be fractionated in the environment as a result of volatilisation because it is a process of negligible environmental relevance.

Sustainable construction in the future will be influenced significantly by the beliefs and actions of civil engineering students studying at university today. A comparative investigation of the appreciation and attitudes regarding sustainable construction of civil engineering students at The nUCE （national University of Civil Engineering） in Vietnam, and the Universities of Loughborough and Liverpool in the UK were therefore conducted. Results indicate that students at all three universities appreciate the importance of the development of sustainable construction and have positive attitudes with regards to sustainability. Construction design and appropriate use of materials were two issues generally considered the most important with regards to sustainability, but were also thought to be adequately covered on the courses in all three institutions.

This article outlines the major scientific objectives of the SHui project that seeks to optimize soil and water use in agricultural systems in the EU and China,by considering major current scientific challenges in this ***(for Soil Hydrology research platform underpinning innovation to manage water scarcity in European and Chinese cropping systems)is large cooperative project that aims to provide significant advances through transdisciplinary research at multiple scales(plot,field,catchment and region).This paper explains our research platform of long-term experiments established at plot scale,approaches taken to integrate crop and hydrological models at field scale;coupled crop models and satellite-based observations at regional scales;decision support systems for specific farming situations;and the integration of these technologies to provide policy recommendations through socio-economic analysis of the impact of soil and water saving *** also outlines the training of stake-holders to develop a basic common curriculum despite the subject being distributed across different disciplines and *** such,this article provides a review of major challenges for improving soil and water use in EU and China as well as information about the potential to access information made available by SHui,and to allow others to engage with the project.

Molecular interactions are crucial in diverse fields of protein folding,material science,nanotechnology,and life *** mounting experimental research controls luminescent behavior by adjusting molecular interactions in light-emitting materials,it remains elusive to correlate microscopic molecular interactions with macroscopic luminescent behavior ***,we synthesized three red luminogens with subtle structural variation and investigated the influence of molecular interactions on their luminescent behavior in solution and aggregate *** results indicate that strongπ-πand D-A interactions in both dilute solution(between luminogen and solvent molecules)and aggregate(between luminogens)states cause the redshift in emission,while weak interactions(e.g.,Van der Waals,C–H…π,and C–H…F interactions)enhance the quantum *** work provides a thoughtful investigation into the complicated influence of various molecular interactions on luminescent behavior.

Post-collisional volcanic rocks of Mesozoic age occur in the regions adjacent to Gerze, part of the southern Qiangtang Terrane of northern Tibet, China. Geochronological, geochemical, and wholerock Sr-nd isotopic analyses were performed on the volcanic rocks to better characterize their emplacement age and models for their origin. Laser ablation-inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry(LA-ICP-MS) U-Pb zircon analyses yielded consistent ages ranging from 123.1±0.94 Ma to 124.5±0.89 Ma for six volcanic rocks from the study area. The intermediate volcanic rocks belong to the alkaline and sub-alkaline magma series in terms of K2 O+na2 O contents(5.9%–9.0%), and to the shoshonitic and calc-alkaline series on the basis of their high K2 O contents(1.4%–3.3%). The Gerze volcanic rocks are characterized by the enrichment of light rare earth elements [(La/Yb)n=34.9–49.5] and large–ion lithophile elements(e.g., Rb, Ba, Th, U, K, Pb, and Sr), slightly negative Eu anomalies(Eu/Eu*=0.19–0.24), and negative anomalies in high field strength elements(e.g., nb, Ta, Hf and Ti), relative to primitive mantle. The samples show slightly elevated(87 Sr/86 Sr)i values that range from 0.7049 to 0.7057, and low εnd(t) values from-0.89 to-2.89. These results suggest that the volcanic rocks studied derived from a compositionally heterogeneous mantle source and that their parent magmas were basaltic. The more mafic, parental magmas to the Gerze volcanic rocks likely underwent fractional crystallization of clinopyroxene, hornblende, biotite, and potassium feldspar, during ascent, with little to no crustal contamination, prior to their eruption/emplacement. While these volcanic rocks exhibit geochemical signatures typical of magmas formed in a destructive plate-margin setting, it is plausible that their mantle source might also have acquired such characteristics in an earlier episode of subduction.
