Central Neurocytoma and Epidermoid Tumor Occurring as Collision Tumors: A Rare Association

Different brain tumors of distinct h.stology can co-exist in th. setting of ph.k.matoses or as a complication of radioth.rapy. In th. absence of th.se predisposing factors, th.s ph.nomenon is uncommon. Wh.n th. lesions are in close proximity th.y are described as collision tumors and are extremely rare. A 58-year-old woman presented with.persistent h.adach. and cognitive decline for th.ee month.. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed a tumor arising from th. atrium of th. left lateral ventricle with.h.terogeneous contrast enh.ncement. Th.s intraventricular lesion was adjacent to anoth.r extensive infiltrating tumor of th. basal cisterns. Operative findings revealed a vascular ventricular tumor and gross total resection was ach.eved. An adjacent avascular basal cistern tumor with.a pearly wh.te sh.en was encountered and partial excision was performed. Th. h.stopath.logical diagnosis was central neurocytoma and epidermoid tumor. Th.re is only one documented description of a central neurocytoma co-existing with.a tumor of different path.logy. To our k.owledge, th.s is th. first reported collision tumor case involving central neurocytoma. Since th. incidence of both.lesions co-existing juxtaposed is extremely low, a ch.onic oncogenetic inflammatory process stimulated by th. epidermoid tumor to th. subventricular region is suggested. Oth.r mech.nisms for tumor collision are discussed and we suggest a classification system for th.s rare association to reflect th.ir path.genesis.

Intracranial Intermediate-Grade Melanocytic Neoplasm: Case Report Associated with.Nevus of Ota

Melanocytic lesions of th. CNS are rare tumours originating from melanocytes th.t are present in th. leptomeninges. Th.y consist of a spectrum of pigmented tumours ranging from melanocytoma to melanoma. A small group of th.se tumours h.ve h.stopath.logical features between th.se of a benign melanocytoma and a malignant melanoma;th.se present as intermediate grade melanocytic neoplasms. Naevus of Ota is a blue h.perpigmented dermal lesion ch.racterized by increased number of melanocytes in th. distribution of oph.h.lmic and maxillary divisions of th. trigeminal nerve. Th. association of an intracranial intermediate-grade melanocytic neoplasm with.a nevus of Ota is extremely rare, with.only 2 cases reported in th. literature to date. As a result, th.ir beh.vior and progression are still poorly understood. We present th. first case of a familial naevus of Ota associated with.intermediate-grade melanocytic neoplasm.
