AIM: To investigate the use of PCR and DGGE to investigate the association between bacterial translocation and systemic inflammatory response syndrome in predicted severe ***: Patients with biochemical and clinical evidence of acute pancreatitis and an APACHE Ⅱ score ≥8 were enrolled. PCR and DGGE were employed to detect bacterial translocation in blood samples collected on d1,3, and 8 after the admission. Standard microbial blood cultures were taken when there was clinical evidence of sepsis or when felt to be clinically indicated by the supervising ***: Six patients were included. Of all the patients investigated, only one developed septic complications;the others had uneventful illness. bacteria were detected using PCR in 4 of the 17 collected blood samples. The patient with sepsis was PCR-positive in two samples (taken on d 1 and 3), despite three negative blood cultures. Using DGGE and specific primers, the bacteria in all blood specimens which tested positive for the presence of bacterial DNA were identified as E ***: Our study confirmed thatunlike traditional microbiological techniques, PCR can detect the presence of bacteria in the blood of patients with severe AP. Therefore, this latter method in conjunction with DGGE is potentially an extremely useful tool in predicting septic morbidity and evaluating patients with the disease. Further research using increased numbers of patients, in particular those patients with necrosis and sepsis, is required to assess the reliability of PCR and DGGE in the rapid diagnosis of infection in AP.

Green building is becoming more mainstream in the public sector,especially in federal agencies such as the ***-ment of Defense,in a large part due to federal policies requiring more sustainable outcomes in the design and construction of public sector *** policies challenge contracted design professionals by adding new demands to a process already constrained by limited budgets,multiple objectives,and short time *** purpose of this research is twofold:(a)to inventory decision support tools available to aid the green design process,and(b)to investigate approaches for organizing these tools to facilitate tool selection and adoption by designers new to green *** research ap-proach is based on principles of innovation adoption theory,specifically the constructs of relative advantage and trialability of *** 275 design-related tools examined here address the spectrum of green building concepts and represent a range of applicability to different design *** of this research indicate that while considerable investment has been made in developing freely available web-based tools to support design,a relatively small number of those tools are immediately applicable to the task of making Leadership in Energy and Environment Design(LEED)credit determinations for specific *** two characteristics of innovations explored in this research provide a basis for explaining some of the anecdotal observations of tools employed in practice,suggesting a need for further research to confirm and extend the findings.

Using net enclosures in an earthen pond, we established three culture treatments with the sea cucumber Apostichopus japonicus and the Chinese white shrimp Fenneropenaeus chinensis : monoculture of sea cucumbers(C), monoculture of shrimp(S), and co-culture of the two species(CS). We measured levels of suspended particulate matter in the water column; total organic matter, total organic carbon, total nitrogen, and carbon/nitrogen ratios in both settling particles and the sediment; and chlorophyll a levels in the sediment. We then compared these variables between the three treatments. We also examined growth, survival, and yield of the two species in the different treatments. From June to September, the mean monthly suspended particulate matter sedimentation rates in the CS and S treatments were significantly( P ber, the mean monthly total organic matter, total organic carbon, total nitrogen, and chlorophyll a contents in the sediment in the CS and S treatments were significantly( P bers in co-culture were all significantly greater than those of sea cucumbers in monoculture. There were no significant differences among any of these variables for shrimp reared in the two systems. The bioturbation of the sediment and fecal production of the shrimp likely supplied natural food for the sea cucumbers. Co-culture of the two species is a viable option for increasing yield per unit area, maximizing use of the water body, and diversifying crop production.

On October 26-28,2005,in Pittsburgh,PA,key members of the building industry,green design community,healthcare industry,academic institutions,and government agencies gathered in a targeted dialogue to consider the feasibility of forming a consortium to improve how healthcare facilities are planned,designed,constructed,and *** roundtable formally documented the drivers and expectations of participants;instinctual,emotional,and intellectual reactions of participants to healthcare facilities greening;and the strengths,opportunities,and challenges posed by the task of greening healthcare *** areas of consensus emerged clearly from the discussion:(a)All participants supported the formation of a consortium focused on the greening of healthcare facilities;(b)All believed the mix of expertise will make this consortium unique;and(c)All believed that the development of a shared research agenda among the building industry,healthcare providers,and academia is *** proposed greening healthcare consortium envisions:(1)Providing a network for sharing existing research and findings related to greening of healthcare facilities;(2)Facilitating collaboration between healthcare projects,current research,and hospital performance data;and(3)Providing an informed basis for healthcare design and construction *** on input from the roundtable discussions,eight research thrusts were identified that the proposed consortium would be ideally positioned to address based on the competencies and positions of the *** eight research thrusts are:(1)establishing the relationships between facilities and clinical outcome;(2)defining costvalue relationships regarding green building;(3)understanding the basis for decision making;(4)compiling a data repository;(5)developing active and passive research methods;(6)investigating interdependencies;(7)minimizing or eliminating waste;and(8)implementing *** active inter-industry discourse promoted by

Proprietary metal 3D printing is still relegated to relatively expensive systems that have been constructed over years of expensive trial-and-error to obtain optimum 3D printing ***-cost open-source metal 3D printers can potentially democratize metal additive manufacturing;however,significant resources are required to redevelop optimal printing parameters for each metal on new *** this study,the particle swam optimization(PSO)experimenter,a free and open-source software package,is utilized to obtain the optimal printing parameters for a tungsten inert gas-based metal open source 3D *** software is a graphical user interface implementation of the PSO method and is designed specifically for hardware-in-loop *** uses the input of experimental variables and their respective ranges,and then proposes iterations for experiments.A custom fitness function is defined to characterize the experimental results and provide feedback to the algorithm for low-cost metal additive *** separate trials are performed to determine the optimal parameters for 3D ***,an experiment is designed to deposit and optimize the parameters for a single ***,the parameters for a single-layer plane is optimized ***,the optimal printing parameters for a cube is determined ***,the line optimization experiment is revised and reconducted using different shield gas *** results and limitations are presented and discussed in the context of expanding wire arc additive manufacturing to more systems and material classes for distributed digital manufacturing.

The subgenual cingulate cortex has been found to be different in structure and function in mood and affective disorders compared to healthy individuals. Imaging studies have shown a decrease in function of the subgenual region in bipolar disorder and depression, with overall glial number shown to be decreased in these disorders. Decreases in subgenual grey matter in SZ have been observed also. In this neuropathological study upon formalin-fixed coronal brain sections we describe the morphological finding of de- creased frequency of subgenual cingulate crown bifurcation (p = 0.02) as compared to control, bipolar and depression cases. This suggests that the cingulate cortex in schizophrenia may be morphologically distinct in utero formation, potentially enabling an early identification of high-risk individuals.

We report the design, fabrication, and characterization of a universal silicon PN junction ring resonator for C band error-free communication links operated up to 50 Gb/s with co-designed optical modulation and detection performance. The universal p-n junction ring device shows co-designed detection responsivity up to 0.84 A/W, in conjunction with a modulation efficiency of -4 V·mm and>8 d b optical modulation extinction ratio, enabling C band 50 Gb/s NRZ communication link with a bit error rate≤3×10^(-12).

本文中,检测了用于飞机制造和修理的四种环氧胶膜,当偏离厂家提供的最佳固化周期时,建立了偏差的影响,评价了固化周期的变化及铝被粘物两种表面制备方法(铬酸浸蚀或打磨后硅烷处理)。用热分析法检测胶粘剂固化程度和玻璃化转变温度。通过测量剪切强度,胶接耐久性和在有浸蚀性液体中的耐化学性来评价胶粘剂的性能。上述胶粘剂的性能受偏离最佳固化条件的影响取决于胶粘剂的组成,需要进行测定,而不能够预测。
