Vegetation change as related to terrain factors at two glacier forefronts, Glacier National Park, Montana, U.S.A.

Glacier recession is a globally occurring trend. Although a rich body of work has documented glacial response to climate warming, few studies have assessed vegetation cover change in recently deglaciated areas, especially using geospatial technologies. Here, vegetation change at two glacier forefronts in Glacier National Park, Montana, *** quantified through remote sensing analysis,fieldwork validation, and statistical ***, we assessed the spatial and temporal patterns of landcover change at the two glacier forefronts in Glacier National Park and determined the role of selected biophysical terrain factors(elevation, slope, aspect, solar radiation, flow accumulation, topographic wetness index, and surficial geology) on vegetation change(from nonvegetated to vegetated cover) at the deglaciated *** imagery of the study locations in 1991, 2003,and 2015 were classified and validated using visual interpretation. Model results revealed geographic differences in biophysical correlates of vegetation change between the study areas, suggesting that terrain variation is a key factor affecting spatialtemporal patterns of vegetation change. At Jackson Glacier forefront, increases in vegetation over some portion or all of the study period were negatively associated with elevation, slope angle, and consolidated bedrock. At Grinnell Glacier forefront,increases in vegetation associated negatively with elevation and positively with solar *** geospatial and field approaches to the study of vegetation change in recently deglaciated terrain are recommended to understand and monitor processes and patterns of ongoing habitat change in rapidly changing mountain environments.

We study the long time formation of rarefaction waves appearing in balance laws by means of singular perturbation methods. The balance laws are non standard because they contain a variable u that appears only in the flux terms. We present a concrete example occurring in flow of steam, nitrogen and water in porous media and an abstract example for a class of systems of three equations. In the concrete example the zero-order equations resulting from the expansion yield a type of conservation law system called compositional model in Petroleum Engineering. In this work we show how compositional models originate from physically more fundamental systems of balance laws. Under appropriate conditions, we prove that certain solutions of the system of balance laws decay with time to rarefaction wave solutions in the compositional model originating from the system of balance laws.

The aim of the study was to test the interaction between Thr and Gly in low crude protein(CP)diets in 7 to 28 d broilers on production performance and plasma metabolites.A total of 2,040 broilers were allocated to 17 treatments.A positive control(PC)diet(20.5%CP)was formulated to be adequate in dietary Thr and Gly.A negative control(NC)diet(18.5%CP,deficient in Thr and Gly)was supplemented with crystalline L-Thr and Gly to obtain a 4 Thr×4 Gly *** Thr was tested at an apparent faecal digestibility(AFD)Thr-to-Lys ratio,which was 55%,58%,61%or 64%,and dietary Gly was tested at an AFD(Gly+Ser)-to-Lys ratio,which was 135%,142%,149%or 156%.Plasma samples were collected at 28 *** low CP diet,formulated at 64%Thr and 156%Gly,resulted in a higher body weight gain(bWG)(Pby L-Thr *** response to dietary Thr was significant for feed intake(FI),bWG and FCR(Pbserved for FI and bWG(Plinear=0.091 and P=0.074,respectively).Gly did not affect production *** interaction between Thr×Gly on plasma free AA level was observed(Pby L-Thr supplementation,but not by *** conclusion,Gly was not limiting for growth at low dietary CP level unless Thr was deficient,showing that adequate amounts of Thr in broiler diets can overcome marginal supply of Gly and Ser and allow reduction of dietary CP from 20.5%to 18.5%for broilers from 7 to 28 d of age.

Synthesis, Surface Characterization and Photocatalytic Activity of TiO_2 Supported on Almond Shell Activated Carbon

Three types of photocatalysts were synthesized by metal organic chemical vapor deposition and impregnation methods using the almond shell activated carbon as support. These photocatalysts denoted by （TiO2/ASAC （V）, TiO2/ASAC （11） and TiO2/ASAC （12）） were characterized by scanning electron microscopy （SEM）, X-ray diffraction （XRD）, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy （FTIR）, diffuse reflectance spectroscopy （DRS） and nitrogen adsorption-desorption isotherms. SEM observation shows that TiO2 was deposited on activated carbon surface. XRD results confirm that TiO2 existed in a mixture of anatase and rutile phases. The DRS spectra show the characteristic absorption edge of TiO2 at approximate 380 nm corresponding to the optical band gap of 3.26 eV. besides, FTIR spectrum indicated the presence of （Ti-O） groups. The specific surface area of photocatalysts decreased drastically in comparison with the original activated carbon. The catalysts were very efficient for the photodegradation of total organic carbon （TOC） from industrial phosphoric acid solution under UV irradiation. The kinetics of photocatalytic TOC degradation was found to follow a pseudo- first-order model. The prepared TiO2/ASAC showed high photoactivity for the photodegradation of TOC in the following order： TiO2/ASAC （V）〉 TiO2/ASAC （11）〉 TiO2/ASAC （12）〉 ASAC 〉 TiO2 （P25）.

Seven new azaphilone pigments named lenormandins A–G were isolated from stromata(fruiting bodies)of the xylariaceous fungus,Hypoxylon lenormandii using preparative High Performance Liquid Chromatography(HPLC)and their structures were elucidated by NMR spectroscopy,high resolution mass spectrometry and other spectral *** occurrence in herbarium specimens(including various type materials collected in the 19th and early 20th century)and several fresh collections was studied by analytical HPLC with diode array and mass spectrometric detection(HPLC-DAD/MS),revealing that this group of pigments is specific for Hypoxylon lenormandii from various geographic regions and otherwise only occurs in closely related taxa,*** and an undescribed fungus from Sri Lanka,for which we propose the name *** status of the new species was established by using molecular phylogenetic data based on ITS and partial beta-tubulin sequences,and by detailed morphological studies.

Treatment of Coats' disease: an analysis of pooled results

AIM: To elucidate the association of treatment modality to vitreoretinal fibrosis and traction retinal detachment(TRD) in Coats' ***: A PubMed search for Coats' disease with included studies describing eyes with clinical features and treatment course of Coats' disease. binary logistic regression with fibrosis at presentation and treatment type as independent variables was performed to determine predictors of TRD historically(since 1921) and in the antivascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) era(since2007). Odds ratios(OR) with 95% confidence intervals(CI)***: Of 175 articles described 1183 eyes. Vitreoretinal fibrosis increased from presentation(5.4%) to follow-up(15.5%) and TRD increased from 0.44% to 3.9% at follow up. Laser was protective against vitreoretinal fibrosis(OR0.6, 95%CI 0.4-0.9) but TRD was borderline(OR 0.6, 95%CI0.3-1.1). Cryotherapy showed a higher association with TRD(OR 1.9, 95%CI 1.0-3.7) than with vitreoretinal fibrosis(OR 0.8, 95%CI 0.5-1.2). Similarly, intravitreal anti-VEGF alone was not associated with fibrosis(OR 1.1, 95%CI 0.6-1.8) nor TRD(OR 1.1, 95%CI 0.5-2.6) but the combination of laser and anti-VEGF therapy was protective [Fibrosis: 0.1(0.03, 0.35); TRD: 0.05(0.01, 0.23)] compared to anti-VEGF plus cryotherapy(Pb or ≥3 A was not associated with ***: Vitreoretinal fibrosis and TRD increase after treatment in Coats' disease. The combination of antiVEGF agents and cryotherapy may lead to higher risk for TRD. Presence of pre-treatment fibrosis is the highest risk factor for post-treatment worsening of vitreoretinal fibrosis and TRD.
