Non-small-cell lung cancer(NSCLC)remains the leading cause of cancer-related death in both men and women in the United ***-based doublet chemotherapy has been a standard for patients with advanced stage *** in overall survival and quality of life have been *** knowledge of the aberrant molecular signaling pathways found in NSCLC has led to the development of biomarkers with associated targeted therapeutics,thus changing the treatment paradigm for many NSCLC *** this review,we present a summary of many of the currently investigated biologic targets in NSCLC,discuss their current clinical trial status,and also discuss the potential for development of other targeted agents.

Diarrhea is a common side effect of *** colitis is a well known complication of antibiotic treatment that can also be observed,albeit rarely,with certain chemotherapeutic *** present four cases of severe colitis in patients undergoing treatment with taxane-based chemotherapy for pancreatic,lung and breast *** of them had recently received *** patient presented with a bowel perforation and three had endoscopic findings of pseudomembranous *** of these three patients had negative stool toxin assays for Clostridium *** the patient presenting with perforation,an emergency left hemicolectomy was performed and the pathological findings in the colon were acute inflammation and ischemic necrosis;the other three patients were treated with oral vancomycin and/or oral or intravenous metronidazole leading to complete resolution of the *** from pseudomembranous colitis,we describe patients presenting with neutropenic enterocolitis as well as ischemic colitis after docetaxel *** cases provide some insight into the spectrum and varied clinical presentations of severe colitis associated with taxane-based chemotherapy.

The scientific literature presents a modest amount ot evidence m the use or complementary ana al[erna- tire medicine （CAm）. On the other hand, in practice, relevant results are common. The debates among CAm practitioners about the quality and execution of scientific research are important, Therefore, the aim of this review is to gather, synthesize and describe the differentiated methodological models that encompass the complexity of therapeutic interventions. The process of bringing evidence-based medicine into clinical practice in CAm is essential for the growth and strengthening of complementary medicines worldwide.

Some types of plant accumulate liquid in their inflorescences creating *** environments protect the flowers against florivory,although they may be colonized by aquatic or semiaquatic florivorous insect larvae,whose effects on the fitness of the plants remain *** tested the hypothesis of floral antagonism by the occupants of phytotelmata,which predicts that florivory by the occupants of the phytotelmata represents a cost to the female fitness of the plant,reducing its *** manipulated experimentally the infestation by 3 florivores larvae species occupants of phytotelmata in inflorescences of Heliconia spathocircinata(Heliconiaceae)to test for negative direct trophic effects on the fecundity of the flowering and fruiting *** found that the foraging of the hoverfly(Syrphidae)and moth(Lepidoptera)larvae in the inflorescences contributed to a decline in the fecundity of the *** the lepidopteran impacted fecundity when foraging in both flowering and fruiting bracts,the syrphid only affected the fruiting bracts,which indicates that the nectar and floral tissue are the principal resource exploited by the *** contrast,soldier fly(Stratiomyidae)had a neutral effect on fecundity,while foraging in flowering or fruiting *** findings corroborate our hypothesis,that herbivory by the larval occupants represents cost to the host plant having *** negative influence of this foraging on plant fecundity will nevertheless depend on the consequences of the exploitation of resources,which vary considerably in ephemeral habitats such as the phytotalmanta of flower parts.

This study perceives the developing process of a parameterization modeling in Grasshopper(R)for complex surfaces using building simulation,considering Annual Average of Hourly Radiation as the *** major goal of this article is to create,simulate and analyze through factorial analysis a modular canopy,based on *** methodology applied consisted of the selection of the form,canopy parameterization,factorial analysis and simulation for ***(R),together with EnergyPlusTm,were used to carry out the *** object of study was the process of creation of a *** countries with hot and humid climates,such as Brazil,the roofing areas are critical parts of building envelopes,highly susceptible to solar *** simulation was performed for a full year for Vi(c)osa,mG(Latitude 20°45′14″S,Longitude 42°52′55″W,Altitude 648 m),but due to parameterization,the canopy can be simulated anywhere *** main results,the factorial analysis contributed for determining that the slope of the canopy was the most robust factor to the detriment of the cardinal and collateral *** the best case scenario,the simulation generated levels of comfort of about 74.0%with 15.4%Hot and 10.6%Cold for natural conditioned spaces.

Celiac disease(CD) is frequently associated with neurological disorders,but very few reports concern the association with ischemic stroke.A 26-year-old woman affected by CD with secondary amenorrhea,carrier of a homozygous 5,10-methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase mutation with hyperhomocysteinemia,was affected by two occipital ischemic strokes within a period of 5 *** the time of the second stroke,while she was being treated with folic acid,acetylsalicylic acid and a gluten-free diet,she had left hemianopsia,left hemiparesthesias,and gait *** magnetic resonance imaging showed a subacute right occipital ischemic lesion,which was extended to the dorsal region of the right thalamus and the ipsilateral thalamocapsular *** and deamidated gliadin peptide antibodies were no longer present,while antinuclear antibodies,antineuronal antibodies and immune circulating complexes were only slightly *** the patient was taking folic acid,her homocysteine levels were almost normal and apparently not sufficient alone to explain the clinical event.A conventional cerebral angiography showed no signs of ***,rare causes of occipital stroke in young patients,such as Fabry's disease and mitochondrial myopathy,encephalomyopathy,lactic acidosis and stroke-like symptoms,were also excluded by appropriate ***,the most probable cause for the recurrent strokes in this young woman remained CD,although the mechanisms involved are still *** two main hypotheses concern malabsorption(with consequent deficiency of vitamins known to exert neurotrophic and neuroprotective effects) and immunemediated *** should be kept in mind in the differential diagnosis of ischemic stroke in young patients.

Purpose The aims of this study were to propose an alternative method to assess an optimal performance improvement rate(PIR)that would be used as a tool for coaches and elite athletes willing to reach their personal best,mainly those seeking for national,continental or even world record(WR)in middle-distance *** further compared the improvement rate of women *** of the top-10 ranked athletes in the IAAF running these middle-distance events method The top 10 athletes in the IAAF ranking of 800 m,1500 m,and 3000 m events for each sex were assessed for their history of race times before achieving their personal record(PR).The difference between PR(‘actual’season)and the best race time in the last season was defined as the 1st season improvement rate(1-SIR),whereas the average improvement rate in the last and preceding seasons was the multi-season improvement rate(m-SIR).1-SIR and m-SIR were calculated for each *** There were sex differences in the 1500 m with a large effect size(d=−0.746)in 1-SIR(P=0.001)and very large(d=−2.249)in m-SIR(P=0.001).Women improved more than men before the PR/WR achievements in the 800 m and 1500 m events(P=0.001)and had similar improvement rates before performing PR/WR in 3000 m events(P=0.533).Conclusion Women improve more before PR/WR achievement in 800 m and 1500 m ***,in the 3000 m men and women have similar improvement rates in previous seasons before the PR/WR achievement.

modeling an Oil Spill along the Southern Brazilian Shelf: Forcing Characterization and Its Influence on the Oil Fate

Oil spills can generate multiple effects in different time scales on the marine ecosystem. The numerical modeling of these processes is an important tool with low computational cost which provides a powerful appliance to environmental agencies regarding the risk management. In this way, the objective of this work is to evaluate the influence of a number of physical forcing acting over a hypothetical oil spill along the Southern Brazilian Shelf. The numerical simulation was carried out using the ECOS model (Easy Coupling Oil System), an oil spill model developed at the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande—FURG, coupled with the tridimensional hydrodynamic model TELEmAC3D (EDF, France). The hydrodynamic model provides the current velocity, salinity and temperature fields used by the oil spill model to evaluate the behavior and the fate of the spilled oil. The results suggest that the local wind influence is the main forcing driven the fate of the spilled oil, and this forcing responds for more than 60% of the oil slick variability. The direction and intensity of the costal currents control between 20% and 40% of the oil variability, and the currents are important controlling the behavior and the tridimensional transportation of the oil. On the other hand, the turbulent diffusion is important for the horizontal drift of the oil. The weathering results indicate 40% of evaporation and 80% of emulsification, and the combination of these processes leads an increasing of the oil density around, 53.4 kg/m3 after 5 days of simulation.

BACKGROUND: Spinal Cord Stimulation (SCS) has been used for chronic refractory pain, however its effectivity on neurovegetative systems has not been evaluated to data. OBJECTIVES: The study was conducted to evaluate the effect of SCS in patients suffering from refractory neuropathic pain, related to analgesia, quality of life and neurovegetative actions on the digestive and urinary tracts. Fifteen patients acted as their own control related to all evaluations. P mpleted the study. The incidence of indication was 6% in our Center for Pain Treatment in the Teaching Hospital. The SCS improved quality of life, bowel transit and urinary function, as improved overall analgesia and decreased daily rescue analgesic (p mplications was 20%, and SCS improved analgesia and quality of life. In addition, patients also referred to improved bowel activity and urinary function.
