The Valencian Community(eastern Spain) was the pioneer territory establishing plant micro-reserves(PMRs). Its model to protect small sites for endemic and endangered plants has been exported to several countries around the globe. This paper highlights 1) the role of PMRs to complement the protection provided by large protected areas, 2) how the establishment of PMRs fosters the increase of floristic knowledge, and 3)the fact that continuous monitoring of PMRs also yields new records of endangered species found within the same PMRs. The flexibility of the PMR approach-it can be adapted to other national and regional legislationsallows its transfer to other rich-biodiversity regions and countries such as China.

The northern part of the eastern margin of the extensional neogene Teruel Basin(central-eastern Spain)consists of a non-linear,zigzag fault zone made of alternating ca.2 km long,nnW-SSE trending segments and shorter nnESSW *** outcrop conditions made possible a comprehensive integrated stratigraphic and structural study,especially focused on coarse clastic sediments deposited along the basin ***-exposed stratal relationships with boundary faults,allowed the analysis of tectonic influence on *** deformation includes growth faulting,rollover anticlines,and monoclines and associated onlap stratal terminations,angular unconformities,and other complex growth strata *** of them is the onlap-over-rollover bed arrangement described here for the first time,which reveals the competition between tectonic subsidence and sedimentary ***,the structural inheritance(dense Mesozoic fracture grid)and the dominant,nearly‘multidirectional’(σ1 vertical,σ2≈σ3),Pliocene extensional regime withσ3 close to E-W,are considered to have controlled the margin structure and ***-stratigraphic evolution includes:(i)reactivation of inherited nnW-SSE faults and development of W-SW-directed small alluvial fans(SAF)while nnE-SSW segments acted as gentle relay ramp zones;(ii)progressive activation of nnE-SSW faults and development of nW-directed very small alluvial fans(VSAF);during stages i and ii sediments were trapped close to the margin,avoiding widespread progradation;(iii)linking of nnW-SSE and nnE-SSW structural segments,overall basin sinking and widespread alluvial progradation;(iv)fault activity attenuation and alluvial *** particular structure and kinematic evolution of this margin controlled alluvial system *** of alluvial fans,directly set up at the border faults,was conditioned by the narrowness of the margin,small catchment areas,and proximity between faults,which prevented the development of l

network traffic analysis is one of the core functions in network monitoring for effective network operations and *** online traffic analysis has been widely studied,it is still intensively challenging due to several *** of the primary challenges is the heavy volume of traffic to analyze within a finite amount of time due to the increasing network *** important challenge for effective traffic analysis is to support multivariate functions of traffic variables to help administrators identify unexpected network events *** this end,we propose a new approach with the multivariate analysis that offers a high-level summary of the online network *** this approach,the current state of the network will display patterns compiled from a set of traffic variables,and the detection problems in network monitoring(e.g.,change detection and anomaly detection)can be reduced to a pattern identification and classification *** this paper,we introduce our preliminary work with clustered patterns for online,multivariate network traffic analysis with the challenges and limitations we *** then present a grid-based model that is designed to overcome the limitations of the clustered pattern-based *** will discuss the potential of the new model with respect to the technical challenges including streaming-based computation and robustness to outliers.

The brain's extracellular matrix(ECM),which is comprised of protein and glycosaminoglycan(GAG)scaffolds,constitutes 20%-40% of the human brain and is considered one of the largest influencers on brain cell functioning(Soles et al.,2023).Synthesized by neural and glial cells,the brain's ECM regulates a myriad of homeostatic cellular processes,including neuronal plasticity and firing(Miyata et al.,2012),cation buffering(Moraws ki et al.,2015),and glia-neuron interactions(Anderson et al.,2016).Considering the diversity of functions,dynamic remodeling of the brain's ECM indicates that this understudied medium is an active participant in both normal physiology and neurological diseases.

Vagus nerve stimulation(VnS)and stroke:Stroke is the second leading cause of death and the third leading cause of disability worldwide(Baig et al.,2023).There have been significant paradigm shifts in the management of acute ischemic stroke through mechanical *** chronic ischemic stroke,invasive VnS paired with rehabilitation is associated with a significant increase in upper limb motor recovery and is FDA-approved(Baig et al.,2023).There are no treatments of similar efficacy in acute intracerebral hemorrhage(ICH)where several promising trials,e.g.,TICH-2,STOP-AUST,and TRAIGE did not show improvements in functional outcomes(Puy et al.,2023).

Objective:To investigate the antiproliferative,anti-angiogenic,and apoptotic effects of extracts of Achillea biebersteinii(ABE)and combined treatments of ABE with 5-fluorouracil(5-FU)on HT-29 ***:The effects of ABE,5-FU,and combined treatments on the viability of HT-29 cells were determined by 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide *** analysis was used to determine synergism between ABE and *** apoptotic and anti-angiogenic effects were determined by cell death detection and human vascular endothelial growth factor ELISA method,*** and translational expressions of p53,Bax,Bcl-2,p38 MAPK,Akt,PTEn,and m TOR were also evaluated by real-time PCR and Western blotting ***:ABE decreased the viability of HT-29 cells in a dosedependent *** treatment of hexane,chloroform,and methanol extracts of Achillea biebersteinii with 5-FU at IC50 doses decreased the cell viability to 26.0%,19.1%,and 14.9%,respectively(Pnt alone and combination with 5-FU,induced apoptosis,significantly downregulated m TOR,Akt,Bcl-2 expression,upregulated p53,Bax,PTEn,p38 MAPK expression,and exhibited anti-angiogenetic ***:Our findings indicate that ABE shows synergism with 5-FU and inhibits the proliferation of HT-29 cells by inducing apoptosis and suppressing angiogenesis,which may provide biological evidence for further use of ABE in the treatment of colorectal cancer.
