AIM:To investigate the close parallels between our novel diet-related mouse model of colon cancer and human colon ***:Twenty-two wild-type female mice(ages 6-8 wk)were fed the standard control diet(AIN-93G)and an additional 22 female mice(ages 6-8 wk)were fed the control diet supplemented with 0.2%deoxycho-lic acid[diet+deoxycholic acid(DOC)]for 10 ***-mors occurred in the colons of mice fed diet+DOC and showed progression to colon cancer[adenocarcinoma(AC)].This progression is through the stages of tubular adenoma(TA),TA with high grade dysplasia or ad-enoma with sessile serrated morphology,intramucosal AC,AC stage T1,and AC stage *** mouse tumors were compared to human tumors at the same stages by histopathological *** of the small and large intestines of mice and humans were evaluated for glandular architecture,cellular and nuclear morphology including cellular orientation,cellular and nuclear atyp-ia,pleomorphism,mitotic activity,frequency of goblet cells,crypt architecture,ulceration,penetration of crypts through the muscularis mucosa and presence of malignant crypts in the muscularis *** addition,preserved colonic tissues from genetically similar male mice,obtained from a prior experiment,were analyzed by *** male mice had been fed the control diet or diet+*** molecular markers were evaluated:8-OH-dG,DNA repair protein ERCC1,autophagy protein beclin-1 and the nuclear location of beta-catenin in the stem cell region of ***,male mice fed diet+DOC plus 0.007%chlorogenic acid(diet+DOC+CGA)were evaluated for ERCC1,beclin-1 and nuclear location of ***:Humans with high levels of diet-relatedDOC in their colons are at a substantially increased riskof developing colon *** mice fed diet+DOChad levels of DOC in their colons comparable to that ofhumans on a high fat *** 22 mice without addedDOC in their diet had no colonic tumors while 20 ofthe 22 mice(91%)fed diet+DOC deve

Reliably identifying synthesizable inorganic crystalline materials is an unsolved challenge required for realizing autonomous materials *** this work,we develop a deep learning synthesizability model(SynthNN)that leverages the entire space of synthesized inorganic chemical *** reformulating material discovery as a synthesizability classification task,SynthNN identifies synthesizable materials with 7×higher precision than with DFT-calculated formation *** a head-to-head material discovery comparison against 20 expert material scientists,SynthNN outperforms all experts,achieves 1.5×higher precision and completes the task five orders of magnitude faster than the best human ***,without any prior chemical knowledge,our experiments indicate that SynthNN learns the chemical principles of charge-balancing,chemical family relationships and ionicity,and utilizes these principles to generate synthesizability *** development of SynthNN will allow for synthesizability constraints to be seamlessly integrated into computational material screening workflows to increase their reliability for identifying synthetically accessible materials.

Potassium （K） affects a range of physiological processes in the plant and is a key factor controlling crop productivity and yield quality. Little information is available concerning effects of K nutrition on function of cut flower plants. The present study was carried out to investigate the interaction between K and N nutrition, on flower quantity and quality of Ranunculus asiaticus L. The plants were supplied with three levels of K fertigation （60, 120, or 180 mg K L-1） under 50 mg N L-1 application, and at the intermediate level of 120 mg K L-1, to three levels of N applications （50, 100, or 150 mg N L-l）. The two lowest K treatments and the lowest N treatment excelled in flower production due to the lower incidence of stem-toppling, a disorder associated with localized ca deficiencies in rapidly expanding tissues of the flower stem. Detrimental effects in terms of yield quality were apparent already under supply of 180 mg K L-1 and 50 mg N L-1, and were not associated with changes in osmotic potential, relative water content or membrane stability of the plant tissue, or with changes in mineral contents of the leaves other than reduced ca under high N application. Our results suggest a low nutritional requirement of R. asiaticus L. for K and N, a lack of involvement of tissue water relations in the reduced flower quality under the application of high concentrations of K and N, and an induction of stem toppling under high application of N and K by reduced availability of ca to the expanding tissue of the flower stem.

＜正＞This study is a first step in a large-scale study that aims at quantifying the relationship between external facial movements, tongue movements, and the acoustics of speech sounds. The database analyzed consisted of 69 CV syllables spoken by two males and two females;each utterance was repeated four times. A Qualysis （optical motion capture system） and an EMA （electromagnetic midsaggital artieuiography） system were used to characterize facial and tongue movements, respectively. Acoustic features were represented by linear spectral pairs （LSP）. To quantify the correlation between them, a multilinear regression technique was applied. The results were analyzed in terms of vowel context, place of articulation, and individual articulatory （EMA or Optical） or acoustic （LSP） channel.

Human Nail Clippings as a Source of DNA for Genetic Studies

Blood samples have traditionally been used as the main source of DNA for genetic analysis. How-ever, this source can be difficult in terms of collection, transportation, and long-term storage. In this study, we investigated whether human nail clippings could be used as a source of DNA for SNP genotyping, null-allele detection, and whole-genome amplification. From extracted nail DNA, we achieved amplicons up to a length of ~400 bp and >96% concordance for SNP genotyping and 100% concordance for null-allele detection compared to DNA derived from matched blood sam-ples. For whole-genome amplification, OmniPlex performed better than Multiple Displacement Amplification with a success rate of 89.3% and 76.8% for SNP genotyping and null-allele detection, respectively. Concordance was ~98% for both methods. When combined with OmniPlex whole-genome amplification, human nail clippings could potentially be used as an alternative to whole blood as a less invasive and more convenient source of DNA for genotyping studies.
