Mining activity affects the vegetation and soils of the ***,the effects of mining activity on saxicolous lichen communities are less ***,the aim of this study was to characterize saxicolous lichen communities in three basins(Vis-Vis River basin,Poteros River basin,and ca.illitas River basin)surrounding metalliferous mining projects of different types of operation and at different stages of exploitation.A large-sca.e mine(Bajo de la Alumbrera)with more than 25 a of open-pit mining loca.ed in the Vis-Vis River basin(CRV).A pre-exploitation mine(Agua Rica.loca.ed in the Poteros River basin(CRP),and a small-sca.e mine(Minas ca.illitas)with more than 160 a of underground mining loca.ed in the ca.illitas River basin(ca.).In each basin,species richness,cover,and freq.ency of lichen communities were measured on 40 rock ***,explanatory variables were recorded,i.e.,altitude,slope,aspect,vegetation cover,rock,and soil cover around the rocky area *** and total cover of lichen communities were analysed using linear models,and species composition was explored using multivariate ordination *** showed that a total of 118 lichen species were *** species richness differed among basins and the lichen composition present in areas close to mining sites responded mainly to basins,altitude,and microsite *** lichen cover showed no difference among basins,but it changed under different rock and vegetation *** was not possible to q.antify the effects of mining activity on species richness and ***,the low richness values found in the downstream of Minera Alumbrera could be associated with the negative impact of open-pit ***,the effects of large-sca.e mining activity on lichen communities needs more investigation.

Intermetallic beryllides are potential light-weight, high-temperature structural materials. In this paper. the processing techniq.es, microstructure. deformation, and oxidation properties of intermetallic beryllides are described. In addition to nickel beryllides (NiBe). which is treated as a model *** high beryllium-containing refractory beryllides, such as Nb2 Be17. VBe12. are also *** room temperature deformation and high-temperature creep properties of these beryllides are repor4ed. At room temperature. NiBe exhibits certain tensile ductility (~ 1 .3%). but all other beryllides are essentially brittle. Nonetheless, these beryllides become ductile at temperatures above approximately 1000℃. Their creep properties are presented. The creep properties are compared with those of intermetallic aluminides. Also. a comparison is made between the ductile-to-brittle transition behaviour of intermetallic beryllides and that of aluminides. Although beryllides are generally oxidation resistant at high temperatures, some beryllides, e.g., ZrBe13, suffer the pest reaction during oxidation at intermediate tem peratures. Soil contamination by toxic trace metal elements,like barium(Ba),may stimulate various undesirable changes in the metabolic activity of *** plant responses are fast and with,direct or indirect,generation of reactive oxygen species(ROS).To cope with the stress imposed by the ROS production,plants developed a dual cellular system composed of enzymatic and non-enzymatic players that convert ROS,and their by-products,into stable nontoxic *** assess the Ba stress response of two Brassica.eae species(Brassica.juncea,a glycophyte,and ca.ile maritime,a halophyte),plants were exposure to different Ba concentrations(0,100,200,300 and 500µM).The plants response was evaluated through their morphology and development,the determination of plant leaves antioxidant enzymatic activities and by the production of plants secondary *** indica.ed that the two Brassica.eae species have the ability to survive in an environment containing Ba(even at 500µM).The biomass production of *** was slightly affected whereas an increase in biomass *** was *** stress imposed by Ba activated the antioxidant defense system in the two species,noticed by the changes in the leaves activity of ca.alase(ca.),ascorbate peroxidase(APX)and guaicol peroxidase(GPX),and of the secondary metabolites,through the production of total phenols and *** enzymatic response was not similar within the two plant species:ca. and APX seem to have a more important role against the oxidative stress in *** while in *** is ***,total phenols and flavonoids production was more significa.t in the plants aerial part than in the roots,of the both *** the two Brassica.eae species response was different,in both plants ca.alytic and non-ca.alytic transformation of ROS occurs,and both were able to overcome the Ba toxicity and prevent the cell damage.

A simplified mathematica. model was created for measurement of thermal expansion coefficients of thinsheet materials with holographic techniq.e. Experimental set-ups corresponding to the mathematica.model were designed and built for both tests above room temperature and at low temperatures. Afringe control techniq.e was introduced for low temperature measurements to compensate rigid bodymovement. Thin sheet specimens of silicon and aluminum alloy (7075) were tested with the developedtechniq.e. The tested results are in good agreement with reported data and thus verify the validityof the developed techniq.e. The thermal expansion coefficients of the tested materials ranged from2.5×10-6C-1 to 23.6×0-60C-1.
