Western blotting in the diagnosis of duodenal-biliary and pancreaticobiliary refluxes in biliary diseases

BACKGROUND: Currently adopted diagnostic methods for duodenal-biliary and pancreaticobiliary refluxes carry many flaws, so the incidence of the two refluxes demands further larger sample size studies. This study aimed to evaluate Western blotting for the diagnosis of refluxes in biliary diseases. METHODS: An oral radionuclide (99)mTc-DTPA test (radionuclide, RN) was conducted for the observation of duodenal-biliary reflux prior to measuring bile radioactivity and Western blotting for detecting bile enterokinase (EK). Pancreaticobiliary reflux was assessed by biochemical and Western blotting tests for biliary amylase activity and trypsin-1, respectively. In accordance with bile sample origin, our samples were classified into ductal bile and gall bile groups; based on each individual biliary disease, we further classified the ductal bile group into five subgroups, and the gall bile group into four sub-groups. Western blotting was conducted to assess the two refluxes in biliary diseases. RESULTS: Consistencies were noted between EK and RN tests when diagnosing duodenal-biliary reflux (P0.05); in the common bile duct cyst group, the EK positive rate was significantly lower than the trypsin-1 positive rate (P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Western blotting can accurately reflect duodenal-biliary and pancreaticobiliary refluxes. EK has greater sensitivity than RN for duodenal-biliary reflux. The majority of biliary amylase and lipase comes from the pancreas in all biliary diseases; pancreaticobiliary reflux is the predominant source in the common bile duct cyst group and duodenal-biliary reflux is responsible for the ductal pigment stone group.

Transcription-Coupled Replacement of Histones:Degradation or Recycling?

Histone modifications are proposed to constitute a ＂histone code＂ for epigenetic regulation of gene expression. However, recent studies demonstrate that histones have to be disassembled from chromatin during transcription. Recent evidence, though not conclusive, suggests that histories might be degradable after being removed from chromatin during transcription. Degradation of overexpressed excessive histones, instead of native histones, has been shown to be dependent on proteasomes and ubiquitination. Since the 26S proteasome usually recognizes polyubiquitinated substrates, it is critical to demonstrate whether degradation of histones is mediated by polyubiquitination. Unexpectedly, there is almost no evidence that any ubiquitin ligase can promote polyubiquitination-dependent degradation of constitutive histones. Meanwhile, acetylation and phosphorylation are also associated with histone degradation. This review attempts to summarize the current knowledge on the transcription-coupled degradation of histones and its regulation by posttranslational protein modifications.

Community attitudes toward ecotourism development and environmental conservation in nature reserve:a case of Fujian Wuyishan National Nature Reserve,China

Using social exchange theory, this study investigated residents＇ attitudes toward the preliminary stage of tourism development in nature reserves in Wuyishan National Nature Reserve of China, and the socio-economic and negative effects of residents＇ attitude toward the tourist industry. Results of the questionnaire survey indicated that local people perceived they could benefit from the economic activities related to tourism, and were supportive of the conservation of natural resources and local culture, sustainable community development, and community participation in ecotourism planning and management. This study also revealed that the variables of age, gender, education level, household income, family size, non-farm work arrangements, and the distance to tourism attractions, have significant association with respondents＇ attitudes toward ecotourism development, or negative impacts of the tourist industry. Respondents who are male, or have a higher household income, are more supportive of tourism development inside the reserve. Younger and more highly educated community members are more likely to support learning more about natural and cultural resources and landscapes. Respondents who have a hieher household income, or live far fromthe village center, are more concerned about the negative environmental impacts of tourism development.

Distribution of radium-224 in the western Arctic Ocean

Radium-224 activities in the western Arctic Ocean were measured viaship-board ^(220)Rn emanation technique during the Second Chinese National Arctic Expedition. Theresults showed that the ^(224)Ra activities in the study areas ranged from being less than 0.08 to3.58 Bq/m^3, with an average of 0.23 Bq/m^3. The low ^(224)Ra concentration in the surface water wasattributed to the influence of sea ice melted water. The horizontal distribution of surface^(224)Ra in the western Arctic Ocean showed a high ^(224)Ra characteristics occurred along the slopearound 160°W, providing evidence for the importance of ice-rafted sediments to controlling thedistribution of radium isotopes in the Arctic Ocean. Mostly, ^(224)Ra concentrations increased withthe depth in the shelf region and reached a maximum at 75 m at the central Canada Basin, whichfurther confirms the importance of the transport of shelf bottom water to maintaining the upperhalocline layer in the Canada Basin.

Tourist preferences for agricultural landscapes:a case study of terraced paddy fields in Noto Peninsula,Japan

Many agricultural landscapes have been formed through the interaction and co-evolution of nature and people, and represent the living landscapes shaped over time through intensive and continuous human cultivation. Terraced paddy fields are being re-evaluated to take into account the multiple functions they fill beyond only rice cultivation, particularly their contribution to the national biodiversity strategy of Japan. Since the 1990 s, terraced paddy fields have been considered a representative cultural landscape of Japan and, at the same time, multi-stakeholder conservation activities have been conducted throughout Japan to reverse the increasing abandonment of terraces. Shiroyone Senmaida is an outstanding cultural landscape and a major tourist attraction in Noto Peninsula, Ishikawa Prefecture, which was designated through an initiative by the Food and Agriculture Organization(FAO) as a Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems(GIAHS) pilot site in 2011. It is important to clarify tourist preference for terraced paddy field landscapes to contribute to future policy making toward improved agricultural landscape conservation. A key finding of this study is that tourists visiting toenjoy the agricultural landscape are also concerned on the sustainability of the farming methods and preferred to maintain the naturalness of the landscape. Respondents with higher educational levels and greater concern for the biological and traditional farming knowledge aspects of the rice terraces were also more inclined to favor sustainable farming practices. Tourists preferred to maintain the naturalness and rurality of the agricultural landscape, and indicated that construction of excessive tourist facilities would cause the landscape to deteriorate. It was suggested that the local community and surroundings, including rural settlements, hills, and forests, should also be conserved together with the scenic terrace.

Social-aware device-to-device communications underlaying cellular networks

This article put forward a resource allocation scheme aimming at maximizing system throughtput for devide-to- device （D2D） communications underlying cellular network. Firstly, user closeness is defined and calculated through social information including friendship, interest similarity and communication strength to represent the willingness of user to share the spectrum resource with others. Then a social-aware resource allocation problem is formulated to maximize the system throughput while guaranteeing the quality of service （QoS） requirements of both D2D pairs and cellular users （CUs）. Then the complicate problem is decomposed into three subproblems. Firstly the admissible D2D pairs are determined and then the power of both CUs and D2D pairs is efficiently allocated. Finally CUs and D2D pairs are matched to reuse the spectrum resource in consideration of both user closeness and physical conditions. Simulation results certify the effectiveness of the proposed scheme which significantly enhances the system throughput compared with the existing algorithms.

背景:身体活动与执行功能领域的相关研究不断涌现,目前尚未有学者使用可视化工具探讨这一领域研究主题的动态演化路径。目的:通过文献计量学方法,探究身体活动与执行功能领域研究主题的动态演化过程,从而理清其发展状态及知识结构的变化。方法:通过检索式:TS=(“Physical activity”AND“Executive function*”)OR TS=(Exercise AND“Executive function*”)检索Web of Science数据库,依照纳入排除标准选取4386篇相关文献为研究内容,利用SciMAT软件进行可视化分析。结果与结论:身体活动与执行功能领域的研究呈现蓬勃发展态势,相关研究日趋深入,未来发展空间较大;该领域可分为执行功能、儿童、老年人和干预措施4个方向,并形成了11条主要演化路径;“运动技能”“生活方式”“有氧运动”和“干预措施”等主题可能是未来的研究重点,“青少年”和“老年人”群体是该领域研究的重点关注人群。

Different roles of capsule endoscopy and double-balloon enteroscopy in obscure small intestinal diseases

AIM: To compare the roles of capsule endoscopy(CE)and double-balloon enteroscopy(DBE) in the diagnosis of obscure small bowel ***: From June 2009 to December 2014, 88 patients were included in this study; the patients had undergone gastroscopy, colonoscopy, radiological small intestinal barium meal, abdominal computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging scan and mesenteric angiography, but their diagnoses were still unclear. The patients with gastrointestinal obstructions,fistulas, strictures, or cardiac pacemakers, as well as pregnant women, and individuals who could not accept the capsule-retention or capsule-removal surgery were excluded. Patients with heart, lung and other vital organ failure diseases were also excluded. Everyone involved in this study had undergone CE and DBE. The results were divided into:(1) the definite diagnosis(the diagnosis was confirmed at least by one of the biopsy,surgery, pathology or the drug treatment effects with follow-up for at least 3 mo);(2) the possible diagnosis(a possible diagnosis was suggested by CE or DBE,but not confirmed by the biopsy, surgery or follow-up drug treatment effects); and(3) the unclear diagnosis(no exact causes were provided by CE and DBE for the disease). The detection rate and the diagnostic yield of the two methods were compared. The differencein the etiologies between CE and DBE was estimated,and the different possible etiologies caused by the age groups were also ***: CE exhibited a better trend than DBE for diagnosing scattered small ulcers(P = 0.242, Fisher's test), and small vascular malformations(χ 2 = 1.810,P = 0.179, Pearson χ 2 test), but with no significant differences, possible due to few cases. However,DBE was better than CE for larger tumors(P =0.018, Fisher's test) and for diverticular lesions with bleeding ulcers(P = 0.005, Fisher's test). Iterative estimation of doubly selective channels with ICI suppression for OFDM using KL-BEM

Channel estimation for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing （OFDM） systems operating over doubly selective channels is complicated by the existence of intercarrier interference （ICI）.This paper extends the idea of estimating time-variant channel impulse response （CIR） via time-averaged CIR proposed by Hijazi,and proposes a low-complexity channel estimation scheme with ICI suppression based on Karhunen-Loeve basis expansion model （KL-BEM）,which is in a more general *** the proposed scheme,the KL-BEM coefficients are obtained through their numerical relationship with the time-averaged *** estimation performance is improved by adopting an expectation-maximization （EM）-based iterative structure combined with a low-complexity ICI equalizer and *** analysis and simulation results show that the proposed scheme achieves superior performance over the original one with lower computational complexity.
