Urea is the most common nitrogen(N)fertilizer used in the tropics but it has the risk of high gaseous nitrogen(N)*** of nitrification inhibitor has been suggested as a potential mitigation measure for gaseous N losses in N fertilizer-applied *** a field trial on a tropical Andosol pastureland in Costa Rica,gaseous emissions of ammonia(NH_(3))and nitrous oxide(N_(2)O)and grass yield were quantified from plots treated with urea(U;41.7 kg N ha^(-1)application^(-1))and urea plus the nitrification inhibitor nitrapyrin(U+NI;41.7 kg N ha^(-1)application^(-1)and 350 g of nitrapyrin for each 100 kg of N applied)and control plots(without U and NI)over a six-month period(rainy season).Volatilization of NH_(3)(August to November)in U(7.4%±1.3%of N applied)and U+NI(8.1%±0.9%of N applied)were not significantly different(P>0.05).Emissions of N_(2)O in U and U+NI from June to November were significantly different(Pmission in U+NI was higher than that in *** and crude protein production of grass were significantly higher(Pmission between U(0.31±0.10 g N kg^(-1)dry matter)and U+NI(0.47±0.10 g N kg^(-1)dry matter).The results suggest that nitrapyrin is not a viable mitigation option for gaseous N losses under typical N fertilizer application practices of pasturelands at the study site.

BACKGROUND Pancreatic panniculitis is an extremely rare condition associated with different underlying pancreatic disorders and characterized by subcutaneous fat necrosis induced by elevated serum lipase *** lesions usually affect the lower extremities and may precede abdominal symptoms of pancreatic *** cell carcinoma(ACC)of the pancreas is a rare pancreatic neoplasm,accounting for only 1%-2%of pancreatic tumors in *** present the case of a 72-year-old man with ACC of the pancreatic head and synchronous liver *** the primary tumor and liver metastases were *** lipase was elevated before surgery and decreased to normal *** serum lipase levels at follow-up led to the diagnosis of hepatic *** disease progression was then accompanied by pancreatic panniculitis,with subcutaneous fat necrosis and acute *** the best of our knowledge,only 4 cases have been reported in the literature and each showed a similar association of serum lipase levels with pancreatic panniculitis and progression of *** Clinical symptoms and progression of ACC may correlate with serum lipase levels,suggesting potential usefulness as a follow-up biomarker.

The melanophila acuminata beetle is attracted to forest fires via a pair of infrared sensory organs composed of sensilla. Our histological work showed that each sensillum contains lipid layers surrounding a protein layer and a unique polysaccharide base that is associated with a neuron to each sensillum. Infrared microscopy showed that the protein region maximally absorbs infrared radiation at 3 ~tm wavelength and at 10 ~tm, which corresponds to the known radiation produced by forest fires at 3 ~tm. mathematical calculations showed that the physical properties of the sensilla are such that the expected temperature rise is insufficient for transduction of the infrared signal through mechanical means or as a thermal receptor as previously thought; hence the protein plays the pivotal role in perception of single photons and transmission of the signal within the sensilla.

Objective The present study aimed to test whether exposure to radiofrequency electromagnetic fields （RF-EmF） emitted by mobile phone base stations may have effects on salivary alpha-amylase, immunoglobulin A （IgA）, and cortisol levels. methods Fifty seven participants were randomly allocated to one of three different experimental scenarios （22 participants to scenario 1, 26 to scenario 2, and 9 to scenario 3）. Each participant went through five 50-minute exposure sessions. The main RF-EmF source was a GSm-900-mHz antenna located at the outer wall of the building. In scenarios 1 and 2, the first, third, and fifth sessions were ＂low＂（median power flux density 5.2 μW/m^2） exposure. The second session was ＂high＂（2126.8 μW/m^2）, and the fourth session was ＂medium＂（153.6 μW/m^2） in scenario 1, and vice versa in scenario 2. Scenario 3 had four ＂low＂ exposure conditions, followed by a ＂high＂ exposure condition. Biomedical parameters were collected by saliva samples three times a session. Exposure levels were created by shielding curtains. Results In scenario 3 from session 4 to session 5 （from ＂low＂ to ＂high＂ exposure）, an increase of cortisol was detected, while in scenarios 1 and 2, a higher concentration of alpha-amylase related to the baseline was identified as compared to that in scenario 3. IgA concentration was not significantly related to the exposure. Conclusions RF-EmF in considerably lower field densities than ICNIRP-gnidelines may influence certain psychobiological stress markers.

Background:Acute respiratory distress syndrome(ARDS)has a reported incidence of 34–43%in ventilated burn patients and is associated with a mortality of 59%in the severe *** use and experience with extracorporeal membrane oxygenation(ECmO)in burn patients developing ARDS are still *** present our results and discuss the significance of ECmO in treating burn ***:A retrospective analysis of burn patients treated with ECmO for ARDS between January 2017 and January 2019 was ***,clinical,and outcome data were collected and ***:Eight burn patients were treated at our institution with ECmO in the designated time *** these,all but one patient had inhalation injury,burn percentage of TBSA was 37±23%,ABSI score was 8.4±2,and R-Bauxscore was 98±*** patients developed severe ARDS and one patient moderate ARDS according to the Berlin classification with a PaO_(2)/FiO_(2) ratio upon initiation of ECmO therapy of 62±22 *** duration was 388±283 *** patients died from severe sepsis while five patients survived to hospital ***:ECmO is a viable therapy option in burn patients developing severe ARDS and can contribute to survival rates similar to ECmO therapy in non-burn-associated severe ***,patients with severe respiratory insufficiency with unsuccessful conventional treatment and suspected worsening should be transferred to burn units with the possibility of ECmO treatment to improve outcome.

A Solution to the Cosmological Constant Problem in Two Time Dimensions

For the last hundred years, the existence and the value of the cosmological constant Λ has been a great enigma. So far, any theoretical model has failed to predict the value of Λ by several orders of magnitude. We here offer a solution to the cosmological constant problem by extending the Einstein-Friedmann equations by one additional time dimension. Solving these equations, we find that the Universe is flat on a global scale and that the cosmological constant lies between 10-90 m-2 and 10-51 m-2 which is in range observed by experiments. It also proposes a mean to explain the Planck length and to mitigate the singularity at the Big Bang.
