Objective: To evaluate the spread of Multidrug-Resistant (MDR) bacterial infections in Bukavu hospitals and test antimicrobial susceptibility patterns of some isolates to usual marketed antibiotics. Methods: The prevalence of MDR strains was determined by using general antimicrobial susceptibility data collected from 3 hospital laboratories. The susceptibility of some isolates to usual antibiotics was processed by agar diffusion method with standard E. coli ATCC8739 and standard antibiotics discs as controls. The tested antibiotics were ampicillin, ceftriaxone, gentamicin, chloramphenicol and ciprofloxacin. Results: At the 3 hospitals, 758 tests were realized in urine, pus, stool, FCV, blood, LCR, split and FU specimens;46 strains were unidentified and 712 strains were identified. Of 712 identified strains, 223 (31.4%) were MDR or XDR strains including Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Enterobacter, proteus mirabilis, Salmonella enterica, pseudomonas aeruginosa, Citrobacter freundii, Morganella morganii, Enterococcus faecalis and E. faecium, Neisseria gonorrohoae, Staphylococcus aureus, coagulase-negative, staphylococci, Streptococcus pneumoniae and Streptococcus pyogenes. Of the infected patients, 36 (21.5%) children were under 16 years and 188 (78.5%) adults were predominately women (58.5%). The susceptibility test showed that all strains but S. aureus were resistant to ampicillin and amoxicillin and ciprofloxacin. Gentamicin, ceftriaxone, and chloramphenicol remain partially active (27% - 80%) against p. mirabilis, E. coli and p. aeruginosa. The resistance is more likely related to strain mutation than to pharmaceutical quality of the antibiotics prescribed. Conclusion: Both data from hospital laboratories and in vitro post-testing findings confirmed the ongoing elevated prevalence of MDR strains in Bukavu. Using Linear and Non-Linear Techniques to Characterize Gait Coordination patterns of Two Individuals with NGLY1 Deficiency

Individuals with NGLY1 Deficiency, an inherited autosomal recessive disorder, exhibit hyperkinetic movements including athetoid, myoclonic, dysmetric, and dystonic movements impacting both upper and lower limb motion. This report provides the first set of laboratory-based measures characterizing the gait patterns of two individuals with NGLY1 Deficiency, using both linear and non-linear measures, during treadmill walking, and compares them to neurotypical controls. Lower limb kinematics were obtained with a camera-based motion analysis system and bilateral time normalized lower limb joint time series waveforms were developed. Linear measures of joint range of motion, stride times and peak angular velocity were obtained, and confidence intervals were used to determine if there were differences between the patients and control. Correlations between participant and control mean joint waveforms were calculated and used to evaluate the similarities between patients and controls. Non-linear measures included: joint angle-angle diagrams, phase-portrait areas, and continuous relative phase (CRp) measures. These measures were used to assess joint coordination and control features of the lower limb motion. participants displayed high correlations with their control counterparts for the hip and knee joint waveforms, but joint motion was restricted. peak angular velocities were also significantly less than those of the controls. Both angle-angle and phase-portrait areas were less than the controls although the general shapes of those diagrams were similar to those of the controls. The NGLY1 Deficient participants’ CRp measures displayed disrupted coordination patterns with the knee-ankle patterns displaying more disruption than the hip-knee measures. Overall, the participants displayed a functional walking pattern that differed in many quantitative ways from those of the neurotypical controls. Theoretical and Experimental Quantification of Solar Radiation through a Tracking System

This work deals with the estimation of solar radiation through a solar tracker aimed at evaluating the effect of solar tracking on the solar deposit in Burkina Faso. Using a two-axis solar tracking system, we experimentally measured solar radiation at our Joseph KI-ZERBO University site and compared it with that obtained by a numerical simulation run using Fortran programming software based on a mathematical model by Brichambaut. The results obtained from the mathematical and experimental studies show that, with a solar tracker, on a clear-sky day, solar irradiation is between 800 W·m−2 and 1000 W·m−2 between about 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., i.e. a duration of 8 hours of insolation. Analysis of the numerical and experimental results shows very good quantitative and qualitative agreement, with an average relative error of 18%.

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) affects women of childbearing age and can influence fertility, pregnancy and decisions regarding breastfeeding. Women with IBD need to consider the possible course of disease during pregnancy, the benefits and risks associated with medications required for disease management during pregnancy and breastfeeding and the effects of mode of delivery on their disease. When indicated, aminosalicylates and thiopurines can be safely used during pregnancy. Infliximab and Adalimumab are considered probably safe during the first two trimesters. During the third trimester the placenta can be crossed and caution should be applied. Methotrexate is associated with severe teratogenicity due to its folate antagonism and is strictly contraindicated. Women with IBD tend to deliver earlier than healthy women, but can have a vaginal delivery in most cases. Caesarean sections are generally recommended for women with active perianal disease or after ileo-anal pouch surgery. While the impact of disease activity and medication has been addressed in several studies, there are minimal studies evaluating patients' perspective on these issues. Women's attitudes may influence their decision to have children and can positively or negatively influence the chance of conceiving, and their beliefs regarding therapies may impact on the course of their disease during pregnancy and/or breastfeeding. This review article outlines the impact of IBD and its treatment on pregnancy, and examines the available data on patients' views on this subject.

目的:探讨RUNT相关转录因子1(RUNX1)在食管鳞状细胞癌中的表达及其对细胞干性的影响。方法:从GEpIA数据库和GEO数据库(GSE111011)获取RUNX1的表达情况,使用TCGA数据库分析基因表达相关性。利用Western blot检测RUNX1、SOX2、OCT4、KLF4和c-MYC蛋白表达情况。利用qRT-pCR技术检测CD271、CD44、CD54、SOX2和RUNX1的mRNA水平,双荧光素酶报告基因实验检测SOX2启动子活性。通过细胞成球培养和流式细胞术检测侧群细胞和CD271^(+)/CD44^(+)细胞的数量反映细胞干性。结果:GEpIA数据库、GEO数据库和Western blot结果均显示RUNX1在食管癌中高表达。在Eca-109细胞中敲低RUNX1后,抑制SOX2表达和细胞干性(ppp<0.01)。双荧光素酶报告基因实验结果显示RUNX1促进SOX2启动子活性,在转录水平调节SOX2表达。结论:RUNX1在食管鳞状细胞癌中高表达,并通过在转录水平调节SOX2表达,从而促进细胞干性。

Modeling the Kinetics of Moisture Desorption from Safou pulp [Dacryodes edulis (G. Don) ***] before the Oil Extraction Step

The aim of this work is to model the drying kinetics of Safou pulp with or without endocarp using a phenomenological approach. Oven-drying kinetics at 70˚C, 90˚C and 105˚C were monitored using the curves given by the reduced mass as a function of time, which are modeled according to the Avrami/page, Fick and peleg models using Oringinpro 2018 software. The results showed that parameters k and n of the Avrami/page model vary very little with fruit size and drying temperature (0.0018 ± 0.0002 k n k (Avrami model/page) were virtually identical, while b (Fick model) and n (Avrami model/page) were virtually identical for the same sample. For the peleg model, the parameter a, varies from 0.0018 ± 0.0002 to 0.03328 ± 0.0079, with a ratio of 18.6 for all experimental conditions studied. However, with 0.977 R2 χ2 perimental data. The same applies to parameter b, which ranges from 0.82 ± 0.05 to 1.21 ± 0.02. Thus, drying modeling by these three models can be used to describe and predict the progress of oven-drying of safou pulp.

Intermediate Hip Arthroplasty in Gabon: Blood Loss and Risk Factor for Transfusion

Background: Hip arthroplasty is a surgery with a high risk of bleeding. The main objective of this study was to research risk factors for bleeding and transfusion in patients undergoing hip hemiarthroplasty in Gabon. Method: It was a retrospective, monocentric, descriptive and analytical study carried out from June 2011 to June 2021 at the Omar Bongo Ondimba army training hospital. The variables studied were demographic characteristics, biological variables, transfusion and intraoperative data. The primary outcome was intraoperative transfusion. A univariate and multivariate analysis was conducted to identify the factors associated with the occurrence of a transfusion. Results: Of the 97 patients included, the average age was 74.2 years ± 10, male predominance was 73.2%, the average ASA score was 1.9 ± 0.5, and transfusion incidence was 38.1%. The average number of RBCs transfused was 1.2 ± 0.6. Tranexamic acid was used in 11.3% of patients. The average bleeding was 450 ± 453 ml. preoperative anemia was predictor of transfusion to be significant. Conclusion: The incidence of transfusion is law compared to total hip arthroplasty. The implementation of a patient blood management protocol is difficult given the urgency of bone repair. However, a better use of tranexamic acid could reduce this transfusion incidence.

This study focuses on the landscape dynamics of the savannahs’ region in the far north of Togo. Based on a literature review and satellite images analysis using GIS and remote sensing, the study aims to ascertain the effects of anthropogenic threats on the forest coverage of the Savannahs’ Region between 1984 to 2020. The objective is to clarify the dynamics of land use in the region from 1984 to 2000 and from 2000 to 2020. The findings indicate a significant decline in forest coverage within the region from 1984 to 2020, a trend attributed to land use patterns. Dry forests in the Savannah region are largely converted to farmlands, housing, dry savannahs or agroforestry parks, leading to a steady reduction in forest areas.
