Multistage centrifugal impellers with four different skew angles were investigated by using computational fluid *** purpose of this work is to investigate the influences of lean angle at the blade tip of the impeller *** variations of lean angles,that is,8°,10°,15° and 20°,were made at first stage *** Average Navier Stokes equation was used in simulation together with a shear?stress transport(SST) k-w turbulence model and mixing-plane approach,*** dimensional fluid flows were simplified using periodic model to reduce the computational cost and time required.A good performance was expected that the secondary flow can be effectively reduced in the flow passage of the impeller without excessive increase in manufacturing cost caused by the secondary *** results show that secondary flow affects the main flow intricately to form vortices or having non-uniform velocity in the flow passage,which in turn results in substantial fluid energy loss not only in the impeller but also in the guide vane downstream of *** numerical solutions were performed and allowed the optimum design and operating conditions to be obtained.

The flow pattern behaviour of falling liquid film over three horizontal cylinders was *** flows can take three forms:discrete droplets,individual jets,and continuous sheet,and special attention is paid to the effects of the physical properties and geometrical parameters of the first two forms(droplets and jets) because these forms are more important in heat-transfer behaviour and less research has been published for these forms,The flow modes and experimental results were successfully compared with previous experimental literatures,and also the effects of liquid flow rate,tube diameter,and tube spacing on departure site spacing,in both drop and jet modes,were evaluated in the low Galileo number and high viscosity fluid(cooking oil),to help developing criteria for determining falling film modes and their transitions,and to understand the heat transfer characteristics associated with each mode.

Circular dichroism (CD) is extensively used in various material systems for applications including biological detection,enantioselective catalysis,and chiral *** paper introduces a chiral absorptive metasurface that exhibits a circular polarization-selective effect in dual bands-positive and negative CD peaks at short wavelengths and long wavelengths,***,we uncover that this phenomenon extends beyond the far-field optical response,as it is also observed in the photothermal effect and the dynamics of thermally induced fluid *** carefully engineering the metasurface design,we achieve two distinct CD signals with high g factors (1) at the wavelengths of 877 nm and 1045 nm,*** findings presented in this study advance our comprehension of CD and offer promising prospects for enhancing chiral light–matter interactions in the domains of nanophotonics and optofluidics.

Hyperinsulinemic hypoglycemia due to diffuse nesidioblastosis in adults:A case report

Persistent hyperinsulinemic hypoglycemia is caused most commonly by an insulinoma in adults or by nesidioblastosis in neonates. In adults, nesidioblastosis is a rare disorder characterized by diffuse or disseminated proliferation of islet cells. We recently encountered a case of nesidioblastosis in an adult. A 71-year-old man was admitted due to intermittent general weakness, abdominal pain, and mild dyspnea. The patient underwent a subtotal gastrectomy for a gastric adenocarcinoma two years ago. After 5 d of admission, the patient showed symptoms of cold sweating, chilling, and hypotension 30 min after eating. Thereafter, he frequently showed similar symptoms accounting for hypoglycemia regardless of food consumption. Laboratory findings revealed a low fasting blood glucose level （25 mg/dL）, and a high insulin level （47 μIU/mL）. Selective intra-arterial calcium stimulation with hepatic venous sampling （ASVS） was performed to localize a mass and revealed an increased insulin level about fourfold that of the normal fasting level at 60 s in the splenic artery, which suggested the presence of an insulinoma in the tail of pancreas. A distal pancreatectomy was performed. Neither intraoperative exploration nor a frozen biopsy specimen detected any mass-forming lesion. On the histological examination, many of the islets were enlarged and irregularly shaped in all specimens, the arrangement of which was a Iobulated islet pattern. Cytologically, a considerable subpopulation of endocrine cells showed enlarged and hyperchromatic nuclei. By immunohistochemistry, the cells were identified as p-cells. These clinical, radiological, microscopic and immuno-histochemical findings are consistent with diffuse nesidioblastosis in adults.

Effects of drought stress on root morphology and spatial distribution of soybean and adzuki bean

due to global climate change,Korea is facing severe droughts that affect the planting and early vegetative periods of upland *** and adzuki bean are important legume crops in Korea,so it is critical to understand their adaptations to water *** study investigated the changes in root morphological properties in soybean and adzuki bean and quantified the findings using fractal *** experiment was performed at the National Institute of Crop Science in Miryang,*** and adzuki beans were planted in test boxes and grown for 30 *** boxes were filled with bed soil with various soil moisture *** images were obtained and scanned every two days,and the root properties were characterized by root length,depth and surface area,number of roots,and fractal parameters(fractal dimension and lacunarity).Root depth,length and surface area and the number of roots increased in both crops as the soil moisture content *** fractal dimension and lacunarity values increased as the soil moisture content *** results indicated that the greater the soil moisture,the more heterogeneous the root *** analysis of the morphological properties and fractal parameters indicated that soybean and adzuki bean had different root structure *** soybean and adzuki bean were sensitive to the amount of soil moisture in the early vegetative *** required a soil moisture content greater than 70%of the field capacity to develop a full root structure,while adzuki bean required 100%of the field *** results would be useful in understanding the responses of soybean and adzuki bean to water stress and managing irrigation during cultivation.

Inhibition of Proliferation of Prostate Cancer Cell Line du-145 in vitro and in vivo Using Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge

Objective:To investigate the antiproliferative activity of Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge.(SM)on the castration-resistant prostate cancer(CRPC)cell line du-145 in vitro and in ***:Prostate cancer cell line(du-145)and normal prostate cell line(RWPE-1)were treated with SM at different concentrations(3.125,12.5,25 and 50μg/mL)to investigate the antiproliferative *** laddering analysis was performed to investigate the apoptosis of du-145 *** mechanism was investigated by Western blot analysis of p53,Bcl-2,prostate specific antigen(PSA),and androgen receptor(AR).Six-week-old male BALB/c nude mice were randomly divided into normal control group(n=101)and treated group(n=101)which administered 500 mg/kg SM for 2 *** volumes were ***:Treatment with SM resulted in a dose-dependent decrease in cell number of du-145 cells in comparison with *** laddering analysis indicated the apoptosis of du-145 *** with SM increased the expression of p53 and reduced the expression of Bcl-2 *** levels of PSA were considerably reduced in SM-treated group compared to the controls,and a decrease in AR expression was observed when cells were treated with SM in the same pattern as a reduction in *** the tumour xenograft study,SM given once a day for 2 weeks significantly inhibited tumour ***:SM might contribute to the anticancer actions such as induction of apoptosis and inhibition of proliferation of prostate cancer cells.
