Pressure transient characteristics of non-uniform conductivity fractured wells in viscoelasticity polymer flooding based on oil-water two-phase flow

Polymer flooding in fractured wells has been extensively applied in oilfields to enhance oil recovery.In contrast to water,polymer solution exhibits non-Newtonian and nonlinear behavior such as effects of shear thinning and shear thickening,polymer convection,diffusion,adsorption retention,inaccessible pore volume and reduced effective permeability.Meanwhile,the flux density and fracture conductivity along the hydraulic fracture are generally non-uniform due to the effects of pressure distribution,formation damage,and proppant breakage.In this paper,we present an oil-water two-phase flow model that captures these complex non-Newtonian and nonlinear behavior,and non-uniform fracture characteristics in fractured polymer flooding.The hydraulic fracture is firstly divided into two parts:high-conductivity fracture near the wellbore and low-conductivity fracture in the far-wellbore section.A hybrid grid system,including perpendicular bisection(PEBI)and Cartesian grid,is applied to discrete the partial differential flow equations,and the local grid refinement method is applied in the near-wellbore region to accurately calculate the pressure distribution and shear rate of polymer solution.The combination of polymer behavior characterizations and numerical flow simulations are applied,resulting in the calculation for the distribution of water saturation,polymer concentration and reservoir pressure.Compared with the polymer flooding well with uniform fracture conductivity,this non-uniform fracture conductivity model exhibits the larger pressure difference,and the shorter bilinear flow period due to the decrease of fracture flow ability in the far-wellbore section.The field case of the fall-off test demonstrates that the proposed method characterizes fracture characteristics more accurately,and yields fracture half-lengths that better match engineering reality,enabling a quantitative segmented characterization of the near-wellbore section with high fracture conductivity and the far-wellbore section with low fracture conduct

Investigating Müller glia reprogramming in mice: a retrospective of the last decade, and a look to the future

Müller glia,as prominent glial cells within the retina,plays a significant role in maintaining retinal homeostasis in both healthy and diseased states.In lower vertebrates like zebrafish,these cells assume responsibility for spontaneous retinal regeneration,wherein endogenous Müller glia undergo proliferation,transform into Müller glia-derived progenitor cells,and subsequently regenerate the entire retina with restored functionality.Conversely,Müller glia in the mouse and human retina exhibit limited neural reprogramming.Müller glia reprogramming is thus a promising strategy for treating neurodegenerative ocular disorders.Müller glia reprogramming in mice has been accomplished with remarkable success,through various technologies.Advancements in molecular,genetic,epigenetic,morphological,and physiological evaluations have made it easier to document and investigate the Müller glia programming process in mice.Nevertheless,there remain issues that hinder improving reprogramming efficiency and maturity.Thus,understanding the reprogramming mechanism is crucial toward exploring factors that will improve Müller glia reprogramming efficiency,and for developing novel Müller glia reprogramming strategies.This review describes recent progress in relatively successful Müller glia reprogramming strategies.It also provides a basis for developing new Müller glia reprogramming strategies in mice,including epigenetic remodeling,metabolic modulation,immune regulation,chemical small-molecules regulation,extracellular matrix remodeling,and cell-cell fusion,to achieve Müller glia reprogramming in mice.

Factors affecting meibomian gland area loss in symptomatic adults

AIM:To characterize the distribution of meibomian gland(MG)area loss(MGL)and its relationship with demographic characteristics,mites,and symptoms.METHODS:This retrospective observational study included patients who visited the Dry Eye Clinic of Shenzhen Eye Hospital between June 2020 and August 2021.General patient characteristics,ocular symptoms,Demodex test results of the eyelid edges,and the results of a comprehensive ocular surface analysis were collected.MGL was analyzed using Image J software.RESULTS:This study enrolled 1204 outpatients aged 20-80(40.70±13.44)y,including 357 males(29.65%)and 847 females(70.35%).The patients were classified into mild(n=155;12.87%),moderate(n=795;66.03%),severe(n=206;17.11%),and extremely severe(n=48;3.99%)MGL groups.MGL was significantly larger in female than in male(P=0.006).The degree of MGL also significantly differed in age(P<0.001)and the more numbers of mites with severity(P<0.001).Multivariate disordered multinomial logistic regression analysis identified that female sex,older age,secretory symptoms,and a large number of mites were risk factors for MGL(P<0.05).CONCLUSION:Patients with MGL are more likely to be older,female,more numbers of mites,and increased secretion.

A new strategy for the metal-free coordination–insertion ring-opening polymerization of tetrahydrofuran by the central metalloid Boron has been first identified.Bis(pentafluorophenyl)(phenoxy)borane was used as a catalyst for the polymerization reaction system.And polytetrahydrofuran with high molecular weight and narrow molecular weight distribution could be obtained.The proposed mechanism was studied by MALDI-TOF,ESI-MS and O-18 isotope labeling analyses as a metal-free coordination insertion mechanism.

BACKGROUND Leukemia stem cells(LSCs)are found to be one of the main factors contributing to poor therapeutic effects in acute myeloid leukemia(AML),as they are protected by the bone marrow microenvironment(BMM)against conventional therapies.Gossypol acetic acid(GAA),which is extracted from the seeds of cotton plants,exerts anti-tumor roles in several types of cancer and has been reported to induce apoptosis of LSCs by inhibiting Bcl2.AIM To investigate the exact roles of GAA in regulating LSCs under different microenvironments and the exact mechanism.METHODS In this study,LSCs were magnetically sorted from AML cell lines and the CD34+CD38-population was obtained.The expression of leucine-rich pentatricopeptide repeat-containing protein(LRPPRC)and forkhead box M1(FOXM1)was evaluated in LSCs,and the effects of GAA on malignancies and mitochondrial RESULTS LRPPRC was found to be upregulated,and GAA inhibited cell proliferation by degrading LRPPRC.GAA induced LRPPRC degradation and inhibited the activation of interleukin 6(IL-6)/janus kinase(JAK)1/signal transducer and activator of transcription(STAT)3 signaling,enhancing chemosensitivity in LSCs against conventional chemotherapies,including L-Asparaginase,Dexamethasone,and cytarabine.GAA was also found to downregulate FOXM1 indirectly by regulating LRPPRC.Furthermore,GAA induced reactive oxygen species accumulation,disturbed mitochondrial homeostasis,and caused mitochondrial dysfunction.By inhibiting IL-6/JAK1/STAT3 signaling via degrading LRPPRC,GAA resulted in the elimination of LSCs.Meanwhile,GAA induced oxidative stress and subsequent cell damage by causing mitochondrial damage.CONCLUSION Taken together,the results indicate that GAA might overcome the BMM protective effect and be considered as a novel and effective combination therapy for AML.

SCIRD: Revealing Infection of Malicious Software in Edge Computing-Enabled IoT Networks

The Internet of Things(IoT)has characteristics such as node mobility,node heterogeneity,link heterogeneity,and topology heterogeneity.In the face of the IoT characteristics and the explosive growth of IoT nodes,which brings about large-scale data processing requirements,edge computing architecture has become an emerging network architecture to support IoT applications due to its ability to provide powerful computing capabilities and good service functions.However,the defense mechanism of Edge Computing-enabled IoT Nodes(ECIoTNs)is still weak due to their limited resources,so that they are susceptible to malicious software spread,which can compromise data confidentiality and network service availability.Facing this situation,we put forward an epidemiology-based susceptible-curb-infectious-removed-dead(SCIRD)model.Then,we analyze the dynamics of ECIoTNs with different infection levels under different initial conditions to obtain the dynamic differential equations.Additionally,we establish the presence of equilibrium states in the SCIRD model.Furthermore,we conduct an analysis of the model’s stability and examine the conditions under which malicious software will either spread or disappear within Edge Computing-enabled IoT(ECIoT)networks.Lastly,we validate the efficacy and superiority of the SCIRD model through MATLAB simulations.These research findings offer a theoretical foundation for suppressing the propagation of malicious software in ECIoT networks.The experimental results indicate that the theoretical SCIRD model has instructive significance,deeply revealing the principles of malicious software propagation in ECIoT networks.This study solves a challenging security problem of ECIoT networks by determining the malicious software propagation threshold,which lays the foundation for buildingmore secure and reliable ECIoT networks.

Comparison of cytokine levels in prostatic secretion between the Ⅲa and Ⅲb subtypes of prostatitis

Chronic prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain syndrome(CP/CPPS),also known as National Institutes of Health(NIH)type Ⅲ prostatitis,is a common disorder with an unclear etiology and no known curative treatments.Based on the presence or absence of leukocytes in expressed prostatic secretion(EPS),CP/CPPS is classifiedfurther into Illa(inflammatory)and Illb(noninflammatory)subtypes.However,the severity of symptoms is not entirely consistent with the white blood cell(WBC)count.Following the preliminary finding of a link between inflammatory cytokines and CP/CPPS,we performed this clinical study with the aim of identifying cytokines that are differentially expressed according to whether the prostatitis subtype is Ⅲa or Ⅲb.We found that granulocyte colony-stimulating factor(G-CSF),interleukin-18(IL-18),and monocyte chemoattractant protein-1(MCP-1)levels were significantly elevated and interferon-inducible protein-10(IP-10)and platelet-derived growth factor-BB(PDGF-BB)levels were downregulated in the EPS of patients with type Ⅲa prostatitis.In a word,it is a meaningful study in which we investigate the levels of various cytokines in EPS according to whether prostatitis is the Ⅲa or Ⅲb subtype.The combination of G-CSF,IL-18,MCP-1,IP-10,and PDGF-BB expression levels could form a basis for classification,diagnosis,and therapeutic targets in clinical P/CPPS.

Effective implementation and improvement of fast labeled multi-Bernoulli filter

Effective implementation of the fast labeled multi-Bernoulli(FLMB)filter is addressed for target tracking with interval measurements.Firstly,a sequential Monte Carlo(SMC)implementation of the FLMB filter,SMC-FLMB filter,is derived based on generalized likelihood function weighting.Then,a box particle(BP)implementation of the FLMB filter,BP-FLMB filter,is developed,with a computational complexity reduction of the SMC-FLMB filter.Finally,an improved version of the BP-FLMB filter,improved BP-FLMB(IBP-FLMB)filter,is proposed,improving its estimation accuracy and real-time performance under the conditions of low detection probability and high clutter.Simulation results show that the BP-FLMB filter has a great improvement of the real-time performance than the SMC-FLMB filter,with similar tracking performance.Compared with the BP-FLMB filter,the IBP-FLMB filter has better estimation performance and real-time performance under the conditions of low detection probability and high clutter.

Deep learning-based semantic segmentation of human features in bath scrubbing robots

With the rise in the aging population,an increase in the number of semidisabled elderly individuals has been noted,leading to notable challenges in medical and healthcare,exacerbated by a shortage of nursing staff.This study aims to enhance the human feature recognition capabilities of bath scrubbing robots operating in a water fog environment.The investigation focuses on semantic segmentation of human features using deep learning methodologies.Initially,3D point cloud data of human bodies with varying sizes are gathered through light detection and ranging to establish human models.Subsequently,a hybrid filtering algorithm was employed to address the impact of the water fog environment on the modeling and extraction of human regions.Finally,the network is refined by integrating the spatial feature extraction module and the channel attention module based on PointNet.The results indicate that the algorithm adeptly identifies feature information for 3D human models of diverse body sizes,achieving an overall accuracy of 95.7%.This represents a 4.5%improvement compared with the PointNet network and a 2.5%enhancement over mean intersection over union.In conclusion,this study substantially augments the human feature segmentation capabilities,facilitating effective collaboration with bath scrubbing robots for caregiving tasks,thereby possessing significant engineering application value.

Confinement of Fe atoms between MoS_(2) interlayers drives phase transition for improved reactivity in Fenton-like reactions

Phase manipulation of MoS_(2) from thermodynamically stable 2H phase to the unstable but more reactive 1T phase represents a crucial strategy for improving the reactivity in many reactions.The widely adopted wet chemistry approach uses intercalating entities especially alkali metal ions to achieve the phase transition;however,these entities are normally inert for the target reaction.Here,we describe the first use of iron atoms for the intercalation of 2H-MoS_(2) layers,driving the partial transition from 2H to 1T phase.Interestingly,in the peroxymonosulfate(PMS)-based Fenton-like reactions,the interlayered confinement of Fe atoms not only activates the inert basal plane,but also adds more reactive Fe sites for the formation of metal-PMS complex as primary reactive species for pollutant removal.In the degradation of a model pollutant carbamazepine(CBZ),the Fe-intercalated MoS_(2) exhibits a first order rate constant 13.3 times higher than 2H-MoS_(2).This strategy is a new direction for manipulating the phase composition and boosting the catalytic reactivity of MoS_(2)-based catalysts in various scenarios,including environmental remediation and energy applications.
