Ginkgo biloba extracts attenuate lipopolysaccharide-induced inflammatory responses in acute lung injury by inhibiting the COX-2 and NF-κB pathways

In the present study, we analyzed the role of Ginkgo biloba extract in lipopolysaccharide（LPS）-induced acute lung injury （ALl）. ALI was induced in mice by intratracheal instillation of LPS. G. biloba extract （12 and 24 ***^-1） and dexamethasone （2 ***^-1）, as a positive control, were given by i.p. injection. The cells in the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid （BALF） were counted. The degree of animal lung edema was evaluated by measuring the wet/dry weight ratio. The superoxidase dismutase （SOD） and myelop- eroxidase （MPO） activities were assayed by SOD and MPO kits, respectively. The levels of inflammatory mediators, tumor necrosis factor-a, interleukin-1/3, and interleukin-6, were assayed by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Pathological changes of lung tissues were observed by H＆E staining. The levels of NF-κB p65 and COX-2 expression were detected by Western blotting. Compared to the LPS group, the treatment with the G. biloba extract at 12 and 24 *** ^-1 markedly attenuated the inflammatory cell numbers in the BALF, decreased NF-κB p65 and COX-2 expression, and improved SOD activity, and inhibited MPO activity. The histological changes of the lungs were also significantly improved. The results indicated that G biloba extract has a protective effect on LPS-induced acute lung injury in mice. The protective mechanism of G. biloba extract may be partly attributed to the inhibition of NF-κB p65 and COX-2 activation.

High-yield production of porous carbon spheres derived from enzymatic hydrolysis lignin for zinc ion hybrid capacitors

The widespread implementation of supercapacitors is hindered by the limited energy density and the pricey porous carbon electrode *** cost of porous carbon is a significant factor in the overall cost of supercapacitors,therefore a high carbon yield could effectively mitigate the production cost of porous *** study proposes a method to produce porous carbon spheres through a spray drying technique combined with a carbonization process,utilizing renewable enzymatic hydrolysis lignin as the carbon source and KOH as the activation *** purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between the quantity of activation agent and the development of morphology,pore structure,and specific surface area of the obtained porous carbon *** demonstrate that this approach significantly enhances the carbon yield of porous carbon,achieving a yield of 22%in contrast to the conventional carbonization-activation method(9%).The samples acquired through this method were found to contain a substantial amount of mesopores,with an average pore size of 1.59 to 1.85 nm and a mesopore ratio of 25.6%.Additionally,these samples showed high specific surface areas,ranging from 1051 to 1831 m2·g^(−1).Zinc ion hybrid capacitors with lignin-derived porous carbon cathode exhibited a high capacitance of 279 F·g^(−1) at 0.1 A·g^(−1) and an energy density of 99.1 Wh·kg^(−1) when the power density was 80 kW·kg^(−1).This research presents a novel approach for producing porous carbons with high yield through the utilization of a spray drying approach.

The pulsar timing array(PTA)collaborations have recently reported compelling evidence for a stochastic signal consistent with a gravitational-wave *** this paper,we combine the latest data sets from NANOGrav,PPTA,and EPTA to explore cosmological interpretations for the PTA signal from first-order phase transitions,domain walls,and cosmic strings,*** find that the domain wall model is strongly disfavored with the Bayes factors compared with the first-order phase transitions and cosmic strings being 1/90 and 1/189,respectively,breaking the degeneracy among these models in individual data *** also find that:(1)a strong phase transition at temperatures below the electroweak scale is favored,and the bubble collisions make the dominant contribution to the energy density spectrum;(2)a small reconnection probability p<1.55×10^(-1)allowed by strings in(super)string theory is favored at the 95%confidence level,and ground-based detectors can further constrain the parameter space.

Nitsche-XFEM for a time fractional diffusion interface problem

In this paper, we propose a space-time finite element method for a time fractional diffusion interface problem. This method uses the low-order discontinuous Galerkin(DG) method and the Nitsche extended finite element method(Nitsche-XFEM) for temporal and spatial discretization, respectively. Sharp pointwise-in-time error estimates in graded temporal grids are derived, without any smoothness assumptions on the ***, three numerical examples are provided to verify the theoretical results.

Global warming in tandem with surface albedo reduction caused by black carbon(BC)deposition on glaciers accelerated glacier melting;however,their respective contributions remain *** in the Qilian Mountains are crucial for the development of oases in the Hexi Corridor;however,their area has decreased by more than 20%over the past ***,this study developed a dynamic deposition model for light-absorbing particles(LAPs),coupled with a surface energy and mass balance *** comprehensively assessed the effects of BC and warming on the melting of a typical glacier in the Qilian Mountains based on the coupled *** on the glacier surface caused 13.1%of annual glacier-wide melting,of which directly deposited atmospheric BC reduced the surface albedo by 0.02 and accounted for 9.1%of glacier *** air temperature during 2000-2010 has increased by 1.5°C relative to that during the 1950s,accounting for 51.9%of current glacier ***,BC emission have increased by 4.6 times compared to those of the early Industrial Revolution recorded in an ice core,accounting conservatively for 6.3%of current glacier *** BC emissions has a limited influence on current glacier melting;however,in the long-term,mitigation should exert a noteworthy impact on glacier melting through the self-purification of glaciers.

Mesoscale Mechanical Properties and Influencing Factors of Concrete under Uniaxial Tension

Monte Carlo simulations were carried out to generate a mesoscale model of concrete with randomly packed aggregates with different shapes and *** mechanical properties of concrete specimens under uniaxial tensile loads were studied using statistical *** results indicated that the entire process of damage and failure of specimens exhibited mainly two failure types:fracture patternsⅠandⅡ.Furthermore,the influences of the aggregate content ratio,aggregate shape,aggregate size,interfacial transition zone(ITZ)strength,and porosity ratio on the concrete specimens were *** numerical simulation results showed that the elastic modulus of the concrete specimens increased approximately linearly with the aggregate volume ratio but decreased linearly with the porosity and was not affected by the ITZ *** tensile strength decreased with the increases in the aggregate content and porosity of the sample,but increased linearly with the ITZ *** addition,the aggregate shape led to a difference in the tensile strength of the concrete.
