An Optimal Control-Based Distributed Reinforcement Learning Framework for A Class of Non-Convex Objective Functionals of the Multi-Agent Network

This paper studies a novel distributed optimization problem that aims to minimize the sum of the non-convex objective functionals of the multi-agent network under privacy protection, which means that the local objective of each agent is unknown to others. The above problem involves complexity simultaneously in the time and space aspects. Yet existing works about distributed optimization mainly consider privacy protection in the space aspect where the decision variable is a vector with finite dimensions. In contrast, when the time aspect is considered in this paper, the decision variable is a continuous function concerning time. Hence, the minimization of the overall functional belongs to the calculus of variations. Traditional works usually aim to seek the optimal decision function. Due to privacy protection and non-convexity, the Euler-Lagrange equation of the proposed problem is a complicated partial differential equation.Hence, we seek the optimal decision derivative function rather than the decision function. This manner can be regarded as seeking the control input for an optimal control problem, for which we propose a centralized reinforcement learning(RL) framework. In the space aspect, we further present a distributed reinforcement learning framework to deal with the impact of privacy protection. Finally, rigorous theoretical analysis and simulation validate the effectiveness of our framework.

Chemotherapy is one of the important methods to treat cancer,and the emergence of multidrug resistance(MDR)is one major cause for the failure of cancer chemotherapy.Almost all anti-tumor drugs develop drug resistance over a period of time of application in cancer patients,reducing their effects on killing cancer cells.Chemoresistance can lead to a rapid recurrence of cancers and ultimately patient death.MDR may be induced by multiple mechanisms,which are associated with a complex process of multiple genes,factors,pathways,and multiple steps,and today the MDR-associated mechanisms are largely unknown.In this paper,from the aspects of protein–protein interactions,alternative splicing(AS)in pre-mRNA,non-coding RNA(ncRNA)mediation,genome mutations,variance in cell functions,and influence from the tumor microenvironment,we summarize the molecular mechanisms associated with MDR in cancers.In the end,prospects for the exploration of antitumor drugs that can reverse MDR are briefly discussed from the angle of drug systems with improved targeting properties,biocompatibility,availability,and other advantages.

Optimization of Multi-energy Microgrids with Waste Process Capacity for Electricity-hydrogen Charging Services

The highway service area,with facilities for electricity-hydrogen charging,includes multi-energy load energy demands and domestic waste process demands.Based on these needs,a fully renewable energy based multi-energy microgrid with electricity-hydrogen charging services and waste process capacity is proposed.This paper studies the energy input and output characteristics of multi-energy conversion and storage devices,and establishes the model for electricity-hydrogen charging microgrid(EH-CMG).The multi-energy conversion,storage characteristics and multi-energy flow coordination in the EHCMG are then studied.An optimization model and its algorithm solution,based on constraints such as the charging time of vehicles,the reliability of multi-energy load energy supply and the available grid regulation performance in the EH-CMG,are established.The proposed optimization of EH-CMG is illustrated with the actual multi-energy operation data of a highway service area in northwest China.The results demonstrate that the proposed EH-CMG and its optimization method can achieve economic benefits for a multi-energy system with the ability of waste process,electricity-hydrogen charging,and also provide better regulation characteristics for the power grid.

The Olfactory Receptor Pseudo-pseudogene: A Potential Therapeutic Target in Human Diseases

Recently, Prieto-Godino et al.[1] found that the olfactory receptor 75a （Ir75a） gene is a functional pseudo-pseudogene in Drosophila sechellia. For a long time, Ir75a has been regarded as an acetic acid receptor that detects acetic acid and induces obvious olfactory responses in olfactory sensory neurons （OSNs）f2J. Nonetheless, Prieto-Godino et al. confirmed that Ir75a lost its sensitivity to acetic acid in D. sechellia. Thus, the D. sechelfia Ir75a gene is generally recognized as a pseudogene in OSNs.

Natural killer (NK) cells eliminate a large variety of tumor cells and abnormal cells. However, NK cells in the tumor microenvironment (TME) are often functionally depleted. A few subsets of NK cells even promote tumor growth. This study reviewed the biological properties of NK cells, the dynamic phenotypic changes of NK cells in the TME, and the communication between NK cells and other immune and nonimmune cells.

What can biolinguistics learn from biology？

Universal top-down sentence generation, different degrees of marginality with cross-linguistic non-constituent conjuncts, and the spectrums of semantic and phonological deviations found with the second morpheme of the Chinese resultative compounds are the three phenomena examined in this paper. They also share two characteristics: being largely ignored or dismissed in biolinguistic research, and having counterparts in biology which have received proper attention and contributed to the knowledge base of the latter fi eld. Demonstrating how paying due attention to these linguistic phenomena may be fruitful for the theory of language, we argue that biolinguistics can benefi t from taking biology as a role model when it comes both to research methodology and to dealing with apparently messy facts.

A modified damage and fracture phase field model considering heterogeneity for rock‐like materials

Damage and fracture are the most extensive failure modes of rock materials,which may easily induce disaster and instability of engineering structures.This study developed a nonlocal damage fracture phase field model for rocks considering the heterogeneity of rocks.The modified phase field model introduced the heterogeneity of fracture parameters and modified the governing equations.Meanwhile,the free energy was constructed by the elastic strain energy sphere‐bias decomposition and the plastic strain energy.As for the numerical implementation,the three layers finite elements method structure was used in the frame of the finite element method.The ability of the modified phase field model has been illustrated by reproducing the experiment results of rock samples with pre‐existing cracks under compression.

Aircraft parameter estimation using a stacked long short-term memory network and Levenberg-Marquardt method

To effectively estimate the unknown aerodynamic parameters from the aircraft’s flight data,this paper proposes a novel aerodynamic parameter estimation method incorporating a stacked Long Short-Term Memory(LSTM)network model and the Levenberg-Marquardt(LM)method.The stacked LSTM network model was designed to realize the aircraft dynamics modeling by utilizing a frame of nonlinear functional mapping based entirely on the measured input-output data of the aircraft system without requiring explicit postulation of the dynamics.The LM method combines the already-trained LSTM network model to optimize the unknown aerodynamic parameters.The proposed method is applied by using the real flight data,generated by ATTAS aircraft and a bio-inspired morphing Unmanned Aerial Vehicle(UAV).The investigation reveals that for the two different flight data,the designed stacked LSTM network structure can maintain the efficacy of the network prediction capability only by appropriately adjusting the dropout rates of its hidden layers without changing other network parameters(i.e.,the initial weights,initial biases,number of hidden cells,time-steps,learning rate,and number of training iterations).Besides,the proposed method’s effectiveness and potential are demonstrated by comparing the estimated results of the ATTAS aircraft or the bio-inspired morphing UAV with the corresponding reference values or wind-tunnel results.
