The regulatory mechanism of soil cadmium （Cd） on antioxidases in sorghum was studied using 3 sorghum species viz., sweet sorghum [Sorghum bicolor （L.）] Moench. cv. Hunnigreen, sorghum hybrid sudangrass （Sorghum bicolor × S. sudanense, cv. Everlush） and sudangrass [Sorghum sudanense （Piper） Stapf cv. Xinjiang]. The results showed that low concentrations of Cd^2＋（410 mg kg-0 induced the activities of 4 antioxidases in leaves of the 3 species of sorghum, but high Cd^2＋ concentrations （≥ 50 mg kg-0 significantly reduced the activities of all the four antioxidases. The glutathione （GSH） contents in leaves of the 3 species of sorghum correlated positively with the Cd^2＋ concentrations. The maximum antioxidase activities were observed at the elongation stage of sorghum during the whole growth period.

The prediction of processor performance has important referencesignificance for future processors. Both the accuracy and rationality of theprediction results are required. The hierarchical belief rule base (HBRB)can initially provide a solution to low prediction accuracy. However, theinterpretability of the model and the traceability of the results still warrantfurther investigation. Therefore, a processor performance prediction methodbased on interpretable hierarchical belief rule base (HBRB-I) and globalsensitivity analysis (GSA) is proposed. The method can yield more reliableprediction results. Evidence reasoning (ER) is firstly used to evaluate thehistorical data of the processor, followed by a performance prediction modelwith interpretability constraints that is constructed based on HBRB-I. Then,the whale optimization algorithm (WOA) is used to optimize the ***, to test the interpretability of the performance predictionprocess, GSA is used to analyze the relationship between the input and thepredicted output indicators. Finally, based on the UCI database processordataset, the effectiveness and superiority of the method are verified. Accordingto our experiments, our prediction method generates more reliable andaccurate estimations than traditional models.

The thermodynamic characteristics of heavy metals adsorbed onto urban soil and the relative adsorption mechanisms were studied by the batch experiment. The results show that there existed dynamic adsorption-desorption equilibrium processes of cationic and anionic ions of heavy metals onto urban soil, which may have an impact on the pH of the adsorption system. The amounts of heavy metals adsorbed onto urban soil increased with the increase of the equilibrium concentration, but their adsorption amounts were not the maximum adsorption amounts. The higher the pH was, the greater the adsorption capacity of the urban soil at the same equilibrium concentration was, and the adsorption amounts of heavy metals onto urban soil followed the order of Pb〉Cu〉Cd〉Zn〉Ni. There were coordination reaction, hydrolysis reaction, exchange reaction in the adsorption processes of heavy metals onto urban soil. With the increase of pH, the influencing degree of pH on the different reactions of heavy metals in the soil increased, meanwhile the effects of other physicochemical properties of soil on the adsorption of heavy metals were weakened.

Dear Editor, Complex chromosome rearrangements （CCRs） are structural aberrations involving at least three chromosomes with three or more chromosomal breakpoints. CCRs are very rare events in the human population. As reviewed by Pellestor et al.,1 less than 255 cases of CCRs involving three or more chromosomes have been reported. In China, approximately 136 cases of CCRs, including 40 males with reproductive problems, have been reported up to the time this review was compiled.

Objective To determine the incidence, course, potential risk factors, and outcomes of noninfectious fever developed in patients after aortic surgery. Methods Patients who received operation for aortic aneurysm or dissection in our center from January 2006 to January 2008 were reviewed. Patients who met one of the following criteria were excluded： having a known source of infection during hospitalization; having a preoperative oral temperature greater than or equal to 38.0℃; undertaking emergency surgery; having incomplete data. Univariate analysis was performed in patients with noninfectious postoperative fever and those without, with respect to demographics, intraoperative data, etc. Risk factors for postoperative fever were considered for the muhivariate logistic regression model if they had a P value less than 0.10 in the univariate analysis. Results Totally 463 patients undergoing aortic surgery were enrolled for full review. Among them, 345 （74.5%） patients had noninfectious postoperative fever, the other 118 （25.5%） patients didn＇t develop postoperative fever. Univariate analysis demonstrated that several risk factors were associated with the development of noninfectious postoperative fever, including weight, surgical procedure, minimum intraoperative bladder temperature, temperature upon intensive care unit （ICU） admission, discharge, and during ICU stay, as well as blood transfusion. In a further multivariate analysis, surgical site of thoracic and thoracoabdominal aorta （odds ratio： 4.861; 95% confidence interval： 3.029-5.801; P=0.004）, lower minimum intraoperative bladder temperature （odds ratio： 1.117; 95% confidence interval： 1.01-1.24; P=0.04）, and higher temperature on admission to the ICU （odds ratio： 2.57; 95% confidence interval： 1.28-5.18; P=0.008） were found to be significant predictors for noninfectious postoperative fever. Pyrochlore titanate oxides, R2Ti2O7（R=Gd3＋, Tb3＋, Dy3＋）, were synthesized under mild hydrothermal conditions. The crystal growth of pyrochlore titanate oxides and taking place of chemical reaction in the hydrothermal processing were sensitive to the alkalinity, temperature, reaction time, the nature of the rare earth ion and the composition of initial reaction mixture. The as-prepared samples were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, Raman spectrum and variable temperature dc magnetic susceptibility（Superconductivity quantum interference device, SQUIDS）. The magnetic studies gave 7.29×10-23 A·m2/Gd3＋ and -8.28 K, 8.75×10-23 A·m2/ Tb3＋ and -19.7 K, and 8.85×10-23 A·m2/Dy3＋ and 0.84 K effective moments and weiss constants for Gd2Ti2O7, Tb2Ti2O7 and Dy2Ti2O7, respectively.

ZnO nanofibers with an average diameter of about 90 nm were prepared by an electrospinning method combined with a calcination process. The as-electrospun nanofibers before and after calcination were characterized by means of differential thermal analysis（DTA）, thermal gravimetric analysis（TGA）, X-ray diffraction（XRD） and scanning electron microscopy（SEM）. The fibers after calcination at 600 °C belong to the hexagonal wurtzite structure. The sensor based on ZnO nanofibers exhibited excellent ethanol sensing properties at 206 °C such as good linear dependence in the low concentration（1―100 μL/L）, high response, and good selectivity. Fast response（less than 2 s） and recovery（about 16 s） were also observed in our investigations.
