Remote sensing approach to evaluate anthropogenic influences on Forest Cover of Palamau tiger Reserve,Eastern India

Background:tropical forests have been experiencing remarkable rates of transformation over the past century as they are getting degraded or decimated to a great extent by anthropogenic *** study aims at investigating the long-term forest cover transformation in Palamau tiger Reserve(PtR),Jharkhand,India,using Landsat tM,EtM+,and OLI satellite images during *** forest cover was delineated utilizing various keys of visual interpretation ***:the forest cover was primarily decreased in the north-eastern and north-western parts in *** order to identify the anthropogenic disturbance in the forest reserve,human settlement density was mapped using highresolution Google Earth *** results showed a positive correlation between human population density and settlement *** major affected sites with an outer buffer of 2 km were demarcated in order to deduce the anthropogenic influences in major non-forested sites in *** was observed that the forest change was maximum at site 3(Ranidah,area 61.06 km^(2),−6.47%change)followed by site 2(saidup,area 124.38 km^(2),−7.65%change),where settlement units were also high(2638 and 2621 settlement units,respectively).At site 1(Barkheta,area 81.59 km^(2)),−1.99%change was observed,and at site 4(samadh tola,area 9.15 km^(2)),1.03% change was observed having moderate settlement units(2422 and 1892 settlement units,respectively).Areas with the low level of human settlements(1038 settlement units)observed the least change,i.e.,at site 5(Netarhat,area 48.52 km^(2)),0.58%change was observed mainly during the ***:the forest cover exhibited an overall decrease of 14.55 km^(2)(−1.34%change)with episodic variation during 1975-2015 in PtR,Eastern India.A significant forest disturbance occurred primarily in the north-eastern and north-western parts of PtR along the forest fringe due to the high population and settlement *** study highlighted the potential use of freely availa

Comparison of Physico-mechanical Properties of tiO_2 and Cr_2O_3 Additives on Reaction sintered Zirconia-mullite Composites

Reaction sintered dense zirconia-mullite composites were prepared by isostatically pressing from zircon flour and reactive alumina with different proportions of tiO_2 and Cr_2O_3 additives. the pressed compacts were sintered at different elevated temperatures with variable soaking times. Microstructures and phase development in the sintered compacts were analysed to assess the influence of the additives on the properties of the zirconia mullite composite.

Interaction between surface gravity wave and submerged horizontal flexible structures

Interactions between surface gravity wave and submerged horizontal flexible structures are studied under the assumption of small amplitude water wave theory and structural response. the generalized dispersion relation associated with surface gravity wave interaction with submerged horizontal flexible plate is analyzed to understand the characteristics of the two propagating modes due to the presence of the free surface and submerged horizontal plate. the phase and group velocities are studied in order to analyze the effect of submerged flexible plate on gravity wave motion. the expansion formulae based on Green’s function technique and eigenfunction expansion method using Fourier transform with appropriate orthogonal mode-coupling relation associated with surface gravity wavemaker problems are derived and compared in both the cases of water of finite and infinite depths. the usefulness of the expansion formulae is demonstrated by deriving the solution for surface gravity wave interaction with submerged articulated flexible plate in water of finite depth. several numerical results on reflection and transmission coefficients related to submerged flexible plate are presented in order to understand the effect of submerged flexible structure on surface wave motion in different cases.

Abdominal pain with elevated transaminases from inferior vena cava(IVC) obstruction is a relatively common reason for referral and further workup by a hepatologist. the differential for the cause of IVC obstruction is extensive, and the most common etiologies include clotting disorders or recent trauma. In some situations the common etiologies have been ruled out, and the underlying process for the patient's symptoms is still not explained. We present one unique case of abdominal pain and hepatomegaly secondary to IVC constriction from extrinsic compression of the diaphragm. Based on this patient's presentation, we urge that physicians be cognizant of the IVC diameter and consider extrinsic compression as a contributor to the patient's symptoms. If IVC compression from the diaphragm is confirmed, early referral to vascular surgery is strongly advised for further surgical intervention.

Observation of free oscillations after the 2010 Chile and 2011 Japan earthquakes by superconducting gravimeter in Kutch,Gujarat,India

In this paper,we present observations of free oscillations of the Earth after major earthquakes in Chile(February 27,2010,Mw8.8)and Japan(March 11,2011,Mw9.1)using data from the dual-sphere superconducting gravimeter(sG-055),installed at Badargadh(23°0.47 N,70°0.62 E),Kutch,Gujarat,India in March *** see the noise characteristics,we calculated the power spectral density of the gravity time series of 5 quiet days in the frequency band 0.05-20 mHz using the new low noise model(NLNM)as a *** compared the noise level of the Badargadh site to other sG sites around the *** shows that the Badargadh sG is in a low noise *** find that the noise increases at frequencies below 1 *** a characteristic is also observed in Djougou(Afrique,Benin)and strasbourg(France).Using theoretical tides for Gujarat,we estimated a scale factor of about-814 nm/s~2/V for Gravl(lowersphere)and about-775 nm/s~2/V for Grav2(upper-sphere).We corrected the influence of atmospheric pressure from the one-second gravity data before switching to the frequency *** extracted a total of 53 Earth’s Free Oscillations(EFO)modes during the earthquake in Japan and about 47 EFO modes during the earthquake in *** are able to extract the lowest0s2spheroidal mode(0.30945 mHz or54 min)and0s0radial mode(0.81439 mHz or 20 min).the longer time series shows individual0s2singlets and0s3(0.46855 mHz)singlets due to the Coriolis splitting *** cross-referenced the frequencies of these modes using the PREM model and previous global *** correlation coefficient between the observed and the PREM model for these two events are 0.999 for Japan earthquake and 0.993 for Chile *** validates the quality of the data useful for low-frequency studies in *** also calculated the relative deviations of our observed fundamental modes with previously determined observed and theoretical *** found that the relative deviations of our observed free oscillations

Incidence and management of white grub, schizonycha ruficollis on seedlings of teak （tectona grandis Linn, f,）

In investigation was conducted annually from 2002 to 2005 between the second week of May and the end of september on the incidence of scarab beetle, schizonycha ruficollis （Fabricius） in a teak （tectona grandis L.f.） nursery at Ramdongari, Nagpur, India. the immature stages, that is white grubs of the scarab beetle damaged 14%-52% of teak seedlings in the nursery beds, whereas the adult of the species, that is scarab beetles, were recorded on three new host trees （ Ziziphus xylopyra, Acacia catechu and A. leucophloea） in addition to the reported hosts such as ziziphus （Z. jujuba and Z. mauritiana）. Beetles of the s. ruficollis started emerging from the nursery beds just after the pre-monsoon showers and continued for 10-18 days. While beetle of s. ruficollis defoliated tree hosts available in the surroundings, the immature stages of the beetle caused major damage by feeding on root systerfls of teak seedlings with symptoms of wilting and mortality in forest nursery beds. the result of chemical and biological treatments for the management of grubs of s. ruficollis in nursery beds indicated phorate 10% granular at the rate of 20 g/m^2 and chlorpyriphos 20% emulsifiable concentrate at the rate of 5.0 mL/m^2 to be effective. Grubs of s. ruficollis have not been recorded previously as a major pest of teak （t. grandis）. this is also the first report on occurrence of s. ruficollis adults on tree hosts such as Z. xylopyra, A. catechu and A. leucophloea. White grubs being pests of economic importance and the toughest insects to manage, information given in this paper on incidence, pest status and management of schizonycha ruficollis is of importance to researchers and forest nursery managers.

Machine learned interatomic potentials using random features

We present a method to model interatomic interactions such as energy and forces in a computationally efficient *** proposed model approximates the energy/forces using a linear combination of random features,thereby enabling fast parameter estimation by solving a linear least-squares *** discuss how random features based on stationary and non-stationary kernels can be used for energy approximation and provide results for three classes of materials,namely two-dimensional materials,metals and *** and energy predictions made using the proposed method are in close agreement with density functional theory calculations,with training time that is 96%lower than standard kernel *** Dynamics calculations using random features based interatomic potentials are shown to agree well with experimental and density functional theory *** frequencies as computed by random features based interatomic potentials are within 0.1%of the density functional theory ***,the proposed random features-based potential addresses scalability issues encountered in this class of machine learning problems.

A compact model is proposed to derive the charge density of the AlInsb/Insb HEMt devices by con- sidering the variation of Fermi level, the first subband, the second subband and sheet carrier charge density with applied gate voltage. the proposed model considers the Fermi level dependence of charge density and vice versa. the analytical results generated by the proposed model are compared and they agree well with the experimental results. the developed model can be used to implement a physics based compact model for an Insb HEMt device in sPICE applications.

Hepatitis B virus genotypes in chronic liver disease patients from New Delhi,India

AIM: to study the Hepatitis B virus (HBV) genotypes and their effect on the progression and outcome in patients with chronic liver diseases from New Delhi, India. MEtHODs: sera from 100 HBV-related chronic liver disease (CLDB) cases were tested for HBV genotype using Polymerase Chain Reaction-Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) and type-specific primers-based PCR (tsP-PCR) targeting to the surface (s) gene encoding hepatitis B surface antigen. REsULts: Only genotypes A and D were present and genotype D was dominant. Genotype D was present in all CLDB patient categories. the genotype distribution for the 100 patients with CLDB was as follows: genotype A, 16/100 (16%) (7/40- 17% chronic hepatitis B (CHB); 8/47, 17%, HBV-related cirrhosis (CRB); 1/13, 7.6%, HBV-related hepatocellular carcinoma (HCCB); genotype D- 84/100 (84%) (32/40- 80% CHB; 38/47- 81%, CRB; 11/13, 85%, HCCB); genotype A + D, 3/100 (3%) (1/40- 3% CHB; 1/47- 2%, CRB; 1/13, 7.6%, HCCB); C, 0; B, 0; E, 0; F, 0; G 0, H 0; (P type D vs A). CONCLUsION: Only HBV genotypes A and D were present in patients with CLDB from New Delhi, India. Compared with genotype D, genotype A patients had no significant clinical or biochemical differences (P > 0.05). Mixed infection with genotype A and D were seen in 3% of the cases. Genotype D was the dominant genotype prevalent in all patient categories.
